가족기능 및 인성특성과 청소년의 외로움간의 관계

Abstract

The main purpose of the present research was to examine the relations between family functioning(cohesion, conflicts, family sociability, and democratic family style) and personality characteristics(introversion, neuroticism, self-esteem, self-disclosure to father, mother, and friend, and social responsiveness) and loneliness in adolescents. The relations between family functioning and personality characteristics were also examined. The subjects were 485 2nd grade high school students(256 boys and 229 girls) living in Seoul. Data were collected using three kinds of questionnaires on adolescents' loneliness, family functioning, and personality characteristics. The main results of the study were as follows: First, the overall family functioning and its four subscales were significantly related to loneliness both in adolescent boys and girls. Adolescents experienced less loneliness, when family cohesion and sociability were higher, conflicts were lower, and the family style was more democratic. Second, all the personality characteristics were significantly related to loneliness both in adolescent boys and girls. Adolescents experienced less loneliness, when their introversion and neuroticism were higher, and self-esteem, self-disclosure to father, mother, and friend, and social responsiveness were lower. Finally, the overall family functioning and its subscales were significantly related to loneliness both in adolescent boys and girls. The more functional the family was, the less introversion and neuroticism, and the more self-esteem, self-disclosure to father, mother, and friend, and social responsiveness they showed. The findings from the present study in which the relations among family functioning, personality characteristics, and loneliness were examined emphasize the important role of family functioning and personality characteristics in adolescents' experiencing loneliness in their daily life.;본 연구의 주목적은 가족기능(응집성, 갈등, 가족사회성, 민주적 가족유형)및 인성특성들(내향성, 신경증적 성향, 자아존중감, 부·모 및 친구에 대한 자기노출, 사회적 반응성)과 청소년이 느끼는 외로움간의 관계를 살펴보는 것이었다. 또, 이와 더불어 가족기능과 인성특성들간의 관계를 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 Russell과 그의 동료들(1980)이 고안·개정한 Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale, Bloom(1985)의 가족기능 척도, Eysenck와 Eysenck(1975)가 만든 청소년용 Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ), Rosenberg(1965)의 Self-Esteem Scale(RSES), 그리고 Miller, Berg와 Archer(1983)가 만든 Self-Disclosure Index(SDI) 및 Opener Scale을 근거로 제작된 질문지들을 이용하여 고등학교 2학년에 재학중인 485명(남학생: 256명, 여학생: 229명)의 남녀학생들을 대상으로 조사되었다. 수집된 자료를 통계처리하여 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 청소년이 경험하는 가족기능의 하위요인들 및 전체 가족기능은 남녀학생 모두의 외로움과 유의한 관계를 보였다. 가족의 응집성과 가족사회성이 높고 갈등이 적으며 민주적인 가족유형일수록 청소년들은 외로움을 덜 느꼈다. 가족기능의 하위요인들 가운데, 남학생의 경우는 가족사회성이, 여학생의 경우는 민주적 가족유형이 외로움에 가장 큰 영향력을 갖고 있었다. 둘째, 인성특성들 각각은 남녀학생의 외로움과 모두 유의적인 관계를 보였다. 내향성과 신경증적 성향이 낮고 자아존중감을 비롯하여 부·모 및 친구에 대한 자기노출 수준과 사회적 반응성이 높을수록 청소년들은 외로움을 덜 느꼈다. 셋째, 가족기능의 하위요인들과 전체 가족기능은 청소년의 인성특성과 대부분 유의한 관계를 보였다. 가족이 기능적일수록 내향성과 신경증적 성향은 낮았고, 자아존중감을 비롯하여 부·모 및 친구에 대한 자기노출 수준과 사회적 반응성은 높았다. 본 연구는 많은 사람들에게 보편적으로 존재하는 부정적 정서인 외로움에 관하여, 외로움이 가장 강렬하게 나타나는 시기로 알려진 청소년기의 남녀학생들을 대상으로 그 관련 변인들간의 관계를 밝힌 점에 의의가 있다. 본 연구결과를 통해 가족기능, 청소년의 인성특성, 그리고 청소년이 느끼는 외로움간의 밀접한 관계를 파악함으로써, 특히 청소년의 외로움에 있어서 가족기능 및 인성특성이 가지는 중요성을 강조하였다.
