Abstract

20세기 초 '무용의 신'이라 불리워진 바슬라브 니진스키(Vaslav Nijinsky, 1889 - 1950)는 고전 발레 형식에서 벗어나 안무의 새로운 장르를 개척한 인물이었다. 본 논문은 그의 작품 「목신의 오후」 (L'Apre＇s-midi d'un Faune)를 통하여 그의 예술 세계를 이해하며, 나아가 이 작품에 나타난 안무적 특성이 현대 발레에 미친 영향에 관하여 연구 하고자 한다. 러시아 무용가 집안에서 출생한 니진스키는 마린스키 극장과 발레 룻스(Ballet Russes) 의 뛰어난 무용수로 활약하다가, 무용에서 자신의 존재 확인과 끊임없는 변화 추구를 위한 목적으로 목신의 오후를 비롯 「봄의 제전」 (Le Sacre du Drintenps), 「유희」(Jeux), 「장난 꾸러기」 (Till Eulenspiegel)등 4편의 안무 작품을 남겼다. 「목신의 오후」는 1912년 5월, 파리의 사뜰레 극장에서 발표된 그의 최초의 안무 작품이다. 「목신의 오후」의 연구 결과는 다음가 같다. 첫째, 「목신의 오후」에 나타난 니진스키의 안무적 특성은 발레의 기본 포지션인 turn-out이 아닌 turn-in포즈를 취하였고, Sur la point 대신 발꿈치를 먼저 디디는 방법을 채택하였으며, Port do bras는 우아한 곡선이 아닌 기하학적인 직선과 굴곡을 나타내었다. 또한 정면이 아닌 측면(Profile)을 강조함으로써 삼차원의 공간을 이차원의 구도 영역으로 대치시켰다. 둘째, 「목신의 오후」에 나타난 그의 안무적 혁신은 고전주의와의 완전한 결렬이란 면에서, 또한 미적 호기심과 새로움에 대한 시도는 그 당시 팽배해있던 모더니즘이라는 실험적 정신을 발레에 도입시켰다는 점에서 그 가치가 크다. 세째, 「목신의 오후」에 나타난 그의 독창적인 안무 방법과 발레 테크닉은 20세기 발레 스타일의 새로운 유형을 제시했다는 점에서 발레사상 하나의 이정표가 되는 작품으로 평가할 수 있다.;One of the most acclaimed dancers of the 20 the century was Vaslav Nijinsky(1889-1950). Who pioneered a new genre in choreotraphy which deviated from classical ballet. This thesis is an attempt to understand his artistic world through his work, "L'Apre｀s-midi k'un Faune.' to present his choreographic characteristics in it and effects on modern ballet. Nijinsky was born to a Russian family of dancers and performed as an excepotional dancer at both the Maryinsky Theater and Ballet Russes. In order to confirm his existence as a dancer and as a result of his endless efforts for change, he proceeded to choreograph four works, "L'Apre｀s-midi d'un Faune." "Le sacre du Printemps", "Jeux", and "Till eulenspiegel". "L'Apre｀s-midi di'un Faune" premiered in May of 1912 at the Theatre du chatelet in Paris. This was also his first choreographic work. The results of research of this work can be abstracted as follows. First, the choreographic characteristics of Nijinsky was that he utilized not the basic position of ballet. the turn-out, but rather the pose of turn-in, and instead of Sur la point he used the heels, and transformed port de bra from graceful curves to geometrical lines and curves. Also, by emphasizing profile instead of the front he replaced the three-dimensiional space with two-dimensional space concept. Secondly, the choreographic innovations shown in the work represented a complete seperation from classicalism. His aesthetical curiosity and attempts for something new introduced modernism into ballet, which itself was a significant contribution. Thirdly, the creative and original choreography and ballet techniques in the work laid the foundation for a new style of ballet for the 20th century. Thus, this work can be evaluated as a milestone in the history of ballet.
