Textile sculpture에 의한 Installation

Abstract

The artistic expression of the contemporary brings a radical change with its complexive and variable modes over control. there, it is sure, an expension of domains in relation to overall existing concepts, values etc., and, besides, an experimental spirit of creative will that may be titled "noeteric" appear as vivid consciousnesses than ever. In this circumstances, as a new methodology in new objects directly influenced from experiments in objects, greatly emphasized recently is the 'installation':it has no concrete form, it is intactly revealed as it is, it aims to diffusion of image and the mutal spread of it, and it appear as an expressional mode in space. And this current has made fiber artists consider fiber as the means for aesthetic exprtssion or something beyond practical meaning, and also, has had them develop such installation as the works of the indivisualized or the environmental, not from the concept of production, but from the concept of creation. This installation as soft 'textile sculpture' possessing the three-dimensional space grows as an independent indivisual to be solely become a new environmental art, that is, as an independent formative work manifesting new realities. In this study, a focus has been paid to an illumination of the concepts of fiber art that is reinterpreted today, and that of the formative characteristics of the installation of a predominantly environmental orientation through textile sculpture. The contents consists of investigations into the formative characteristics by the rise and development of fiber installation and a comparative analysis of it with the formativity in my own installation works. For the method of the study, survey in exhibitions of environmental installation works, analysis of reference materials, and also comparative analysis between them and my works were conducted. As the results, formative characteristics of fiber installation are as follows: First, it takes on the formativity of totality. Second, it is of progress and process. Third, it is of the time. Fourth, it is formed of scattered pieces. Fifth, it is dilivered from institutional modes and avoid illusion with its approached or spread into apperance of image. Sixth, it performs an atmospheric art by means of the space search of environmental orientation, and maximize empathy in order to orient to participant art. Lastly, it develops into a kind of public art by grafting together purith and utility, and aims to a technological art which advocates scientific environments by mobilizing an engineering stadpoint of the contemporary, newest science.;현대의 예술표현은 걷잡을 수 없이 복잡하고 다양한 양상으로 급격한 변화를 가져오고 있다. 거기에는 물론 기존의 개념, 가치 등 모든 것 들에 대한 영역확장과 더불어 '새로움'이라는 실험정신과 창조의지가 과거 어느때 보다도 활기찬 의식으로써 나타나고 있다. 이런 양상속에서 오브제(Object)의 실험이 가져온 직접적인 영향과 새로운 소재 및 방법론으로써 구체적인 형태를 갖지 않는 상태를 그대로 펼쳐 놓아 이미지 확산과 상호확대를 꾀하는 공간속에서 하나의 표현양식으로 나타나는 설치작업(Installation)이 근래에 크게 강조되고 있다. 이런 조류에 의하여 현대 섬유예술가들도 섬유를 실용적 의미의 차원을 넘어 미적표현의 수단으로 생각하게 되었고 대량생산 수단이 아닌 창작개념을 갖고 개성적이고 개별화된 작품이나 환경작품의 Installation으로 전개시키게 되었다. 그것은 공간을 점유하고 있는 3차원의 부드러운 섬유조각(Textile Sculpture)으로서 스스로 독립된 하나의 환경조형(Environment Plastic) 작품으로 새로운 현실을 주장하게 된 것이다. 본 논문에서는 현대에 재해석되는 섬유예술의 개념과 Textile Sculpture를 통한 환경지향의 Installation의 조형적 특성을 규명하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 본 연구의 내용은 Fiber Installation의 발단과 전개에 의한 조형적 특성을 밝히고 본인의 설치작업 작품의 조형성과 비교 분석 연구하였다. 본 연구의 방법은 환경적 설치작업 전시회와 국내외 참고문헌을 분석함에 따라 본인의 작품과 비교 분석하였다. 연구 결과 Fiber Installation의 조형적 특성은 첫째, 총체적(Totality) 조형. 둘째, 진행, 과정성(Process)의 조형. 셋째, 일회적 조형. 넷째, Scatter Piece로 형성된 조형. 다섯째, 제도적 양식에서 해체되어 새롭고 신비적인 공간을 의식한 이미지의 확대와 접근으로서 Illusion을 무효화 한다. 여섯째, 환경지향의 공간 탐색을 통하여 분위기 예술을 연출하며, 참여예술로서 지향하기 위하여 감정 이입을 극대화 한다. 일곱째, 순수와 실용을 접목시켜 대중예술로 발전시키며, 현대 첨단과학의 공학적 입장을 동원하여 과학적 환경을 주장하는 공학예술을 지향한다고 하는 여러 복합적인 요인이 내재되어 있다는 것을 뚜렷하게 찾아볼 수 있었다.
