Oskar Schlemmer의 추상무용에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문의 목적은 1920년대 독일을 중심으로 Oskar Schlem-mer에 의해서 제시된 추상무용(abstract dance)에 대하여 연구 분석함으로써 그에 담겨 있는 미학적 이념이 무엇이었는가를 고찰하려는 데 있다. 추상무용이란 어느 일정한 작품을 지칭하는 것이 아니고, 어떤 양식을 지칭하는 포괄적인 용어이므로 작품 분석의 대상은 Schlem-mer의 최초의 무용작품이며 대표작이라 할 수 있는 "Triadic Ballet"로 한정하였다. 그리고 "Triadic Ballet"의 구성 요소들을 수학, 기하학, 기계, 인형, 가면, 유모어, 그로테스크 등으로 설정하고 이들에 관한 개념과 미학적인. 근거를 고찰함으로써 그 의미와 기능을 파악하고자 하였다. 이러한 분석의 결과 Schlemmer는, 첫째, 수학을 기초로 한 형식과 규범을 통하여 합리적인 정신성을 부여 하고자 하였으며, 둘째, 변형과 비인간화의 방법을 통하여 무용을 기존 예술에 대한 개혁의 계기로 삼았으며, 세째, 부조리성으로 인한 역설적인 성격과 희극적인 분위기를 만들어서 비합리성을 포함하는 생동적인 놀이라고 하는 의미 또한 부여하고자 하였다. 이상과 같은 방법론을 통하여 Schlemmer는 인간의 합리적인 측면과 비합리적인 측면. 즉 이성과 감성을 조화롭게 종합시킴으로써 사회적·정치적 그리고 예술적 격변의 시대에 조화와 견제와 균형이라는 중용적인 미덕을 구현하고자 한 것이다. 예술이라 하는 것이 시대 사회적 상황과 분리되어 성립될 수 없는 현상이라고 할 때에 무용 또한 그 예외일 수는 없다. Schlemmer는 당시 유럽의 사회·문화적인 실정을 절감하고 이에 대응하고자했던 예술가였다는 접에서, 그의 예술적 이념은 의의를 지니는 것이다.;The purpose of this work is to study the aesthetic ideas of abstract dance by analyzing the dance. The abstract dance was developed by Oskar Schlemmer of Germany in 1920's. "Abstract dance" does not indicate a certain piece of work, but it is a general term for a style of dance. I have limited the analysis to "Triadic Ballet", Schlemmer's first and greatest work. I have chosen mathematics, geometry, mechanism, marionette, mask, mor and grotesque as the unique components of "Triadic Ballet" in comparing with other kinds of ballet(dance). What Oskar Schlemmer persued there are as follows; First, he tried to endow ballet (dance) with rationality by means of mathematical form and law. Second, he intended to reform established art through the method of deformation and dehumanization. Finally, he wanted, while he uses paradoxical characteristics and comic atmosphere symbolizing absurdity, to show the meaning of play with full of life involving irrationality. In that way he harmonized the rational and irrational side of human being, in other words, reason and sense in order to create the virtue of harmony, self-control and balance at the period of storm and change in the political, social life and art. Taking account for that art is a phenomenon inseparable from its historical and social background, ballet can not be the exception. Thus, Oskar Schlemmer's artistic ideas should be understood as a response to the actual circumstances of European society and culture where he lived and which he was well aware of.
