美國 現代舞踊史 속에서 Bennington School의 價値硏究

Abstract

본 논문은 1934년부터 1942년 사이에 활약하였던 Bennington학교가 미국 현대무용에 기여한 바 역사적 가치에 관하여 다루었다. 세계대전과 경제공황으로 혼란하였던 사회속에서 현대무용의 정립과 가치발견에 업적을 이루었던 Bennington학교는 장소와 활동하던 인물은 같았지만 베닝톤대학교의 무용과와는 별개의 성격을 지니고 활동하였으며 대학의 교육과 예술에 관한 진보적인 사고가 이룩한 중요한 결실이었다. 본문의 내용은 서론부분에서 미국무용으로 탄생하게 된 현대무용에 관하여 언급하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 현대무용의 개념을 규명하면서 베닝톤학교가 등장하게 된 시대적 상황을 알아보았다. Ⅲ장에서는 1934년 부터 시작된 하기 무용학교의 활약사를 연도순으로 알아 보았다. 또한 베닝톤시대가 막을 내린후 6년만에 그 정신을 이어 나타나게된 Connecticut 무용학교의 의의를 다루었다. Ⅳ장에서는 베닝톤에 참가하였던 인물들에 관하여 주요 인물들의 특징 및 당대의 활동사항을 중점으로 알아보았다. 결론부분에서는 미국 현대무용사 안에서 베닝톤학교가 이루어낸 주요한 업적과 과오로 인정되어야 할 몇가지 문제점들을 함께 제시하였다. 이를 바탕으로 현대무용의 발상지이며 중심지인 미국 현대무용을 이해하는데 도움이 되며 나아가서 미국의 현대무용을 받아들이고 있는 우리나라에 연구가치가 있는 모델로서 이해되기 바란다.;In this study, the historical value of Bennington School contributed to American modern dancing, which showed activity in 1934 to 1942, was treated. The Bennington school which contributed to the settlement and value discovery of modern dancing in the chaos society of second world war and financial panic, the acting places and persons were the same with the dance department of Bennington college, but acted with different character and it was the important fruition which achieved by the progressive thinking of college education and arts. In introduction, the modern dancing which was born as an American dancing was mentioned. In second chapter, the periodic situation of the appearence of Bennington school was investigated by examining closely the notion of modern dancing. In third chapter, the acting history of dancing school was investigated by order of year. Also the significance of Connecticut School which appeared by following the spirit, six years after Bennington years ended, was treated. In third chapter, the characters and acting circumstances of important parson who participated in Bennington, were mainly investigated. In conclusion part, important achievements and some problems which to be acknowledged as a mistake which Bennington school had achieved in the modern dancing history of America, were suggested together. These are hoped to be as the base to help to understand American modern dancing which is the birthplace and center of modern dancing, further to be understood as a model of research value to Korea, receiving American modern dancing.
