Story ballet에 나타난 안무적 특성

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 보다 이상적이고 바람직한 한국 발레의 안무 방향을 확립하는데 필요한 이론적 기초를 제공하기 위한 일 연구로서, 20세기 발레에서 자신만의 독특한 안무 스타일을 구축한 죤 크랑코(John Cranko: 1927-1973)의 스토리 발레(story Ballet)를 중심으로 이에 나타난 주요 특징들을 연구하는데 있다. 이런 연구의 목적을 효과적으로 달성하기 위해, 크랑코의 무용관, 안무 스타일, 그리고 그의 주요 스토리 발레인 「Eugene Onegin」, 「The Taming of the Shrew」, 「Romeo and Juliet」등으로 나뉘어 분석, 고찰하였다. 신체를 극적 표현의 도구로 여긴 크랑코는 발레의 예술적 목표가 특정한 인물들이나 소수의 평론가들과 같이 일부 계층의 사람들을 위해서가 아니라, 모든 사람들이 충분히 이해가 가능한 작품으로 만들어져야 한다는 그의 무용관 아래 그의 안무 스타일을 구축해 나아갔다. 본 연구를 통해 얻어진 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 크랑코의 안무 스타일은 일상적인 주제들을 선택하여 주요 캐릭터의 특성을 파악한 후에, 거기에 적절한 무용수와 동작을 만들어 낸다. 그리고 그는 이런 동작과 자연스런 마임이나 제스처를 훌륭히 조화시켜 극의 줄거리를 전개시킨다. 둘째, 그의 대표적인 작품이 「Eugene Onegin」, 「The Taming of the Shrew」, 「Romeo and Juliet」에 나타난 주요 특징은 작품 전체 의 줄거리가 하나의 연관성을 갖도록 하면서 춤과 내용이 일치하는 이야기 형식을 취하고 있다. 즉, 스토리 발레의 기본 요소라 할수 있는 pas d'action, Variations, 그리고 Divertissment을 토대로 하여 각 캐릭터의 분위기, 감정이나 행동을 통해서 관객으로 하여금 작품의 의미를 이해하고 깨닫게 한 것이다. 셋째, 크랑코는 발레의 극적 표현성과 제스처의 영역을 확대시켰을 뿐만 아니라, 독일 스튜트가르트 발레단의 예술적 성장에 지대한 기여를 했다는 점이다.;The purpose of this study is to study John Cranko's story ballet which established the foundation of his own characteristic style in 20th century's ballet, and to provide fundamental theories for the ideal and desirable choreographic direction of Korean ballet this study. To achieve this purpose, I analyzed Cranko's ideas on dance, choreographic style, and his major story ballets : Eugene Onegin, The Taming of the shrew, Romeo and Juliet. Cranko had the idea that the artistic goals of ballet are not limited to some special people or critics, but also include works which every one can understand, and he established his styles under this idea. The result of this study is a follows. First, Cranko's choreography style chooses some daily subjects, and creates appropriate movements and dancers. Also, he develops the story of a ballet by combining these movements with natural mimes and gestures. Second, the major characteristic appeared in his masterpieces ; Eugene Onegin, The Taming of the shrew, Romeo and Juliet is that the whole story has certain connections and dances and contents are inconsistent with each other, which is called, Narrative Style. That is, on the basis of the elementary factors of a story ballet, which are Pas d'action, Variations, and Divertissment, the mood of each character, emotions, and behaviors make the audience understand and realize the meaning of the ballets. Third, the major effects of Cranko's ballet are that he expanded the realm of dramatic expressions and gestures, and contributed to the artistic growth of the stuttgart ballet.
