Agnes de Mille에 관한 硏究

Abstract

인류사의 변천과 더불어 不斷하게 변화, 발전 되어온 Ballet 예술은 今世紀에 이르러 傳統固守의 障壁을 과감하게 제거함으로써 신선하고 활력있는 새로운 Ballet를 정립하게 되었다. 무용계의 이러한 主流는 오늘날 모든 무용의 母體인 미국으로부터 擴散되어 왔으며 그 影響下에 세계적인 수 많은 무용가와 안무가들이 속속 輩出되었다. 이들중에서도 미국 무용에 多大한 영향력을 부여해 至寶的 存在로 君臨하고 있는 Agnes De Mille은 그 時代가 요구하는 모든것을 包容할 수 있는 예술성과 대중성을 겸비한 作品을 창작해낸 20세기 Ballet역사상 가장 위대한 안무가인 동시에, 많은 무용서적과 논설, 강연등을 통해 무용의 저변확대에 心血을 기울인 뛰어난 이론가였다. 1909年 New York에서 出生한 De Mille은 14歲부터 Kosloff School에서 Ballet의 기초를 다져나갔고 그후 20年남짓, 상설 무용수로 활약하면서 자신만의 독특한 接舞形式을 導出해 왔었다. 이러한 기반을 토대로하여 自國의 民俗資料를 注入시켜 창작한 작품 「Rodeo」를 1942年에 初演한 以來 유능한 안무가로 名聲을 떨친 그녀는 Ballet에서부터 Broadway Musical에 이르기까지의 모든 무용형태에 劇의 형식을 追求해 냄으로써 현저한 미국주의적 民族舞踊을 構築하였으며, Musical Comedy속에 무용을 삽입시킨 最初의 개혁가로 擡頭되어 Modern Ballet의 새로운 章을 열어주었다. 本 論文은 Agnes De Mille의 生涯와 思想 및 主要作品의 分析을 통해 미국 Ballet에 끼친 De Mille의 영향력을 硏究하여 그 공헌도를 糾明하려는데 意義가 있다. 이렇게 연구한 結果를 종합해보면, 첫째, 미국 특유의 색체가 濃厚한 土着的 産物을 素材로 作品들을 창작해낸 Agnes De Mille은 이제껏 미국 무용의 源泉을 이루어왔던 러시아 帝國主義的 무용형태를 단호히 배제시켜 완전한 미국 무용의 기틀을 確立시켜 놓았다. 둘째, 또한 De Mille은 慣習的인 Musical Comedy무용의 모든 개념에 大變革을 일으켜 미국 무용계에 새로운 안무가들을 登用시켜 주었으며, 세째, 미국의 唯一한 민속단체인 「American Heritage Dance Theater」를 設立해 춤의 역사적 형태에 기초를 둔 작품들을 선보임으로써, 전통적 文化遺産을 보존하여온 De Mille의 활동은 미국 무용계의 名聲을 敦篤케 하였다.;As the trasition of the human history was continuously to be made, the ballet as Art became to be developed ceaselessly so as to set up its foundation fowards new and lively form of ballet by excluding the traditional adherence to the past. This major tendency of dance got broadened from the America the home-town of today's mordern dance, under the influence of which many an internationally-known dancer and choreographer was brought up. The most valuable existence in giving America dance with the influential impact is Agnes de Mille. Her works-writings, editorials and lectures both fully accepted factors-artistic and popular, which were expected by the time that she was belonged to, and they really made her the greatest choreographer of the 20th century, and most excellent, theorist also. In 1909, she was born in New York, and when she grew to be fourteen, she learned the basic art of ballet at Kosloff School. After that time, she played an active part as a permant dancer for about 20 years, and originated her own unique choreographic method. In 1942, by displaying for the first time, her greatest masterpiece "Rodeo", Agnes de Mille showed its native trait. She pursued some dramatic formation from ballet to Broadway Musical, and firmly built a corner stone of American folk dance, she was also a first innovational choreographer who opened the new chapter of modern ballet by inserting dance in the musical comedy. Thus, Agnes de Mille made in effort in order to develop American dance as a competent choreographer. The purpose of this thesis to examine closely her exploit contributed to American ballet the the analysis of her life, thought and her pricipal works. The conclusion of this study are as followings : Firstly, Agnes de Mille created American works using some native materials. At the time she excluded the Russian dancing method from American dance. So she established the complete native basic of the part. Secondly, she made an opening to the new choreographers by changing the concept of conventional musical comedy. Thirdly, she established the American Heritage Dance Theatre (AHDT) the only folk organization of America, and introduced her works which were based on chronicle form of dance so as to preserve them as the American heritage of traditional culture, which eventually brought her a decisive contribution to American dance in the world.
