종이를 이용한 Tapestry

Abstract

섬유예술에 있어서 종이작업이 나름대로 독특한 예술영역으로 자리잡을 수 있었던 것은 종이 특유의 질감 형태 색채 등의 종합적 표현효과 때문이다. 이렇듯 종이에 대한 새로운 시각은 현대 조형예술에 있어서 소재의 폭과 종이자체의 활동영역을 넓혀주고 있다. 본 논문은 섬유재료로서 새로운 조형매체로 등장한 종이, Tapestry기법중 기본조직(평직, 변화평직)과 변화직(Plaiting, Basketry technique)을 응용하여 표현한 현대 종이조형 작품들의 이론적 배경을 문헌을 통해 고찰하므로써 종이조형에 대한 다양한 질감효과의 가능성을 확대할 수 있었다. 또한, 자연에서 느낀 변화와 움직임 등의 재질감을 평면에 의한 부조적 형태로 표현하고자 하였다. 연구의 방법은 문헌연구와 작품제작 및 분석을 병행하였으며, 분석대상은 Tapestry기법이 적용된 종이조형 중에서 기본조직 12점과 변화직 12점으로 총 24점의 작품을 시각적으로 분석하였다. 이러한 연구과정을 통해 서양의 Tapestry 기법에 동양의 재료인 한지, 닥지, 고서 등을 부합시켜 새로운 조형적 형태로 확대시켜 나갈 수 있었다. 그러나, 종이는 습기에 쉽게 젖어 들어 그 형태가 변형될 수 있으며, 염색에 있어서도 탈색될 우려가 있기 때문에 이에 따른 보완책이 필요하다. 또한, 종이자체의 더 많은 표현 가능성을 모색하며, 적극적이고 창의적인 실험정신을 가지고 연구적인 자세로 나아가야 할 것이다.;The fact that the paper works have occupied its own place in tapestry is due to the synthetic expressional effect of the unique texture, shape and colors of paper. The modern viewpoint to the paper like this has broadened the range of selecting materials and the applicational fields of paper itself. This paper extends the possibility of various texture effects for the paper art by investigating the theoretical background of modern paper works which express the textures of paper by basic weaving and non-frame weaving(Plaiting, Basketry technique) using the techniques of paper tapestry as a new medium of fiber materials. Moreover, It is intended that the variation and mobility which are felt from the nature be expressed in the relief form on the two-dimensional plane. This study includes the investigation of literatures, the work-production and the analyses, the objects of which are twelve works of basic weaving and twelve works of non-frame weaving which all use the techniques of tapestry and are analyzed visually. Through the procedure of this study, I could extend the formative shape of the oriental materials (Korean paper, mulberry paper, ancient books) with the application of western technique of tapestry. However, paper has a serious weakness that its shape tends to be distorted by the moisture permeation and the provision against the decoloration is also necessary for the conservation of dyed states. Finally, with the grope far the possibility of more abundant expressions of paper itself, active and creative researching attitude is expected.
