공간표현을 위한 환경설치 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 섬유예술 작품을 3차원적 공간에 설치하는 방식에 의해 창출되는 공간성에 관한 연구이다. 현대 직조예술은 전통적으로 벽이나 바닥 등에 실용적인 목적으로 표현된 2차원적 표현을 뛰어넘어 새로운 재료 및 다양한 기법을 응용하여 3차원으로 설치함으로서 공간과 환경의 개념까지도 새로운 예술개념으로 도입하게 되었다. 적극적인 조형이념으로서 다양하게 형상화되고 있는 섬유예술은 이렇듯 작가들의 창의력을 발휘하기 위해 섬유 매체의 확장을 초래하였으며 이에 따라 '혼합매체(mixed media)'를 통한 표현양식도 보편화되어가고 있다. 본 연구는 2차원적 단위인 각 피스(piece)를 공간적으로 설치함으로서 새로운 공간이 창출되는 과정을 실험적으로 시도하였으며 그러한 과정을 통해 다양한 도시의 이미지들을 형상화하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구자는 많은 피스형태를 다양한 장소에 각기 다른 구성방식으로 설치함으로서 다양하게 창조되는 작품과 공간과의 관련성 및 조화에 대해 연구하는 데 연구목적을 두었다. 이론적 연구방법으로는 첫째로 작품표현에 있어서 피스의 개념과 조형성, 각 피스의 조립방법을 고찰함으로서 피스작업의 특징과 효과를 살펴보았고, 둘째로 환경 섬유예술에 대하여 고찰하였으며, 셋째로 환경설치를 통하여 새로운 공간을 창출하는 대표적인 작가들의 작품들을 분석하였다. 이론적인 작품분석은 국내외 기존 작가들의 작품을 분류, 비교하였다. 작품제작에 있어서는 색상과 질감, 디자인에 약간의 변화를 준 다섯 종류의 피스들을 직기를 이용하여 평직기법으로 모두 100피스를 제작하였다. 이를 세 곳의 각기 다른 장소에 설치함으로서 새롭게 창출되는 공간성을 연구하였다. 작품제작과 연구과정을 통해 피스의 다양한 설치방식에 의한 공간적 조형표현을 모색하고 피스작업을 통해 새로운 작품표현으로의 잠재성을 제시 하고자 하였다. 창출된 공간과 작품과의 조화속에 관람자를 유도함으로서 작품과 공간 그리고 관람자까지도 하나의 작품표현원리로 유도하였으며 이 결과 서로 동화(同化)될 수 있는 장을 연출해내고자 하였다. 이러한 연구과정을 통하여 피스작업은 설치와 보관이 용이하고 설치방법에 따라 작품의 크기가 자유롭게 축소되고 확장될 수 있으며 관람자와 교류하는 장으로서의 공간연출에 효과적이다. 또한 전혀 새로운 작품으로의 변화가능성도 무한하다. 그리고 피스를 반복하여 나열하는 방법은 하나의 커다란 그룹을 이루어 강한 이미지를 전달해주고 공간을 분할하며 확장시키는 데 효과적인 방법이라는 결론을 얻었다. 또한 조명이나 빛은 작품과 공간을 하나의 전체적인 이미지로 엮는데 매우 중요한 역할을 하며, 빛과 설치 장소의 변화는 하나의 작품 구성요소로서 작품에 전혀 다른 새로운 느낌을 주는 중요한 변화요인들이었다. 이러한 연구를 바탕으로 계속적인 설치방식을 통한 공간조형방법이 모색되어 빛과 음향까지도 고려한 설치작업으로 확장시켜 3차원에서부터 4차원으로까지 확장된 조형적 표현으로 그 표현영역을 발전시켜 나아가야 하겠다.;This study is about the nature of space which the fiber arts generated by the way of construction at the three dimensional space. The modern fiber arts runs over the two dimensional expression which presented for the practical purpose with the traditional materials such as a wall or a floor, and now the modem fiber arts introduces even space and environmental aspect as new concept of arts with both developing various methods and new materials at the three dimensional space. As a positive moulding concepts, this stream can be formed variously and with both the expansion of fiber materials express and liberal expression of the artist, the mixed expression form, such as a 'mix media' is more generalized. Moreover, experimentally this study was tried the way of generating a new space, by special placing each piece as a two dimensional measure, and through these way I also tried to form the various images of city. For this purpose, by placing many form of pieces at various places at different way of making, I focused on the variously generated works and the relationship with space and the harmony. As a theoretical approach, first, I explored the feature and the effect of piece- work by the meaning of piece, formation, and assembly of each pieces and, secondly I examined about the environmental aspect of fiber art. Finally, through generating new spaces with the environmental setups, I analyzed some distinguishing artists' work around world. About an aspect of composing my works, I started on giving different colors and different feelings of fiber, and different design on five kind of plain weaving pieces at three different locations as an aspect of the three dimensional space, and I studied the new various expressed space. I groped the special forming expression by the various setup method of piece and also tried to show a potentiality as a new expression, through a piece work. For the purpose of guiding the gallery to the generated space, work, and harmony, all of the work, space and the gallery could be a part of the principle of work expression and with these results, I hoped to give a room for these assimilation. Through these research, the piece work could be easy to set up and maintain. As the way of setup, it could be freely reduced and also expanded by the work size. It work, furthermore, could be effective to the space expression as a gallery, who can exchange their feelings with the piece work. In addition, the possibility of change as whole new concept of work can be expanded infinitely. From these trials, I could figured it out that this repeated arranging way of piece is one of effective way to extend and divide the space, grouping one big group with giving a strong image. Illumination or light could take an important role of combining the work and the space as one whole image and both light and changing of setting place, as one of component in work itself, can be an also important factor in giving new image to the work. As summary, I would like to tell that we will and we can develop the area of expression in extended form, such as three dimension or four dimension, and this area of expression can be realized with the space moulding way of the continues setup method which considering lights and sounds.
