Internal layer에 의한 Feltmaking의 조형표현

Abstract

Among many attempts of various ways on the modern fiber arts, one of the important issues that specially drew attention on was an experiment about materials or extention of medium concept and its possibility. In this movement, the felt technique that had been made for the practical use from the ancient times was rediscovered by the modern fiber artists. It's characteristics and expressional moulding possibility have been studied form the new point of view. Now, the feltmaking is extending its expressive range as a pure plastic art by means of continueous experiments by fiber artists. In this article, I studied the background in the formation of modern feltmakingand its expressive techniques in the modern creative works and put emphasis on the study about plastic expression of feltmaking. The actual work is intended to express the substance of 'layer' which madethe basis of the nature through the observation of it. At the same time, I want to express various ways of plastic experession of feltmaking through constructing relief and three dimentional warfare with the pieces which uses 'internal section' of laid felt structure.;현대미술의 다양한 방법적 시도 가운데 하나가 매체의 개발과 그 가능성에 대한 실험이었다. 이러한 움직임 속에서 과거 실용의 목적으로 제작되던 펠트(Felt)는 무한한 잠재력을 지닌 예술적 매체로 새롭게 인식되었고 현대 섬유예술의 중요한 한 영역을 차지하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 순수 조형예술로서 현대 펠트 작업(Feltmaking)의 형성 배경과 응용 기법에 관한 연구를 이론적 배경으로 고찰하였다. 또한 자연의 관찰을 통해 자연물을 형성하는 기본구조의 미적 특질을 Internal Layer에 의한 단면의 효과를 살린 펠트조각(piece)의 부조 및 입체형태로서 조형화 하였다. 이러한 연구과정의 결과, 펠트는 연구자의 미적 경험과 표현의지를 충족시키는데 있어서, Internal Layer를 통해서 타재료와의 혼합 및 지층적 구조 표현으로 형태 제작에 대한 유연성이 뛰어났다. 따라서 표현 대상에 대한 적절한 응용 기법의 선택은 주관적인 조형 세계를 모색하는데 있어 매우 중요하였다. 이와같이 재료와 기법에 대한 실험적 연구와 적극적인 조형 활동의 참여만이 진정한 의미에서 펠트 작업이 순수 조형예술로서 정착하게 되는 길일 것이다.
