문자와 부조적 효과를 통한 새로운 조형성

Abstract

태초에 '말'이 있었다고 할 때 그 의미는 인간은 자기의식을 말과 문자라는 형태를 빌려 표현함으로써 비로소 인간일 수 있게 되었다는 뜻이다. 이 때 인간이 상호교류하고 의사소통을 보다 원활히 하며 발전된 사회를 이루어 가는데 있어 문자는 핵심적인 역할을 수행하였다. 인간사회에서 문자는 사물이나 사건을 대신하여 인간의 약속에 의해 이루어진, 관습적이며 사회적 성격을 지닌다. 그래서 문자는 복잡한 사고나 노력 없이도 쉽게 알 수 있는 대상이며, 우리들 주변에 있는 사실적이고 명확한 사물과 비교해 볼 때, 문자는 직접적이며 추상적인 성격을 띠고 있다. 그리고 지시하는 것을 즉시 대체할 수 있는 원래 평면성을 띤 존재이다. 또 각각의 문자는 각 민족성이나 역사 그리고 문화와 같은 총체적 집합의 반영물이다. 이것들은 어느 나라이든지 그들 나름대로의 독자성과 구조를 가지고 있으며, 시간이 지나면서 또는 가치가 변하면서 그때마다 문자의 형태와 기능이 새롭게 변모해 왔다. 이에 본인은 우리 주변에 일상적으로 통용되고 있는 문자를 통해, 문자가 가지는 전체 시각과 동화된 회화적 요소와, 본인의 감성과 부합하여 추상화된 서체 이미지, 형태와 주제간에 상호 작용을 함으로써 나타나는 메시지를 전달해 보고자 하였다. 특히 우리의 정서에 맞는 이미지를 조형적 요소로 이용하려 하였으며, 옛 문자도를 통해 전통을 비롯한 소통의 의미를 심도 있게 다루어 보고자 하였다. 처음에 본인은 단지 기호체계로의 상형성을 가진 문자의 평면적인 형태에 큰 매력을 느꼈으나, 문자의 원래 성격인 평면성을 벗어난 3차원으로의 확장된 형식으로 해석함으로써, 예술적 다양한 접근을 시도하였다. 회화만의 고유한 영역을 벗어나 보다 강렬한 시각적 효과를 위해 부조적인 형태를 취했으며 이것은 요즘 절대양식의 붕괴와 과거의 양식을 포함한 다양함의 공존이라는 포스트 모더니즘의 정신과도 부합된다고 하겠다. 즉 현대의 새로운 상황 속에서 순수하고 고유한 평면성을 추구하기보다는, 본인은 기존의 것과는 달리 모든 것을 수용하려는 태도를 취하려 한다. 본 연구는 본인의 작품 제작에 있어서 작품의 내용적 측면과 방법적 측면을 중심으로 설명하였으며 끝으로 본인의 작품을 분석함으로써 앞으로 나아갈 길과 방향을 모색해 보고자 한다.;When it is said that there existed a 'word' in tile beginning of the world, it means that human beings became human beings by expressing their self-consciousness with a letter. In human being's establishing a developed society, and interrelating with each other, a letter played a key role, A letter is one of human customs made by human promises, and has social characters. Therefore, a letter is an object which can be known without any complex thought or effort, and has some abstract character compared with other obvious objects. It can replace the thing directed, immediately, and has a plane character. Also, each letter is the reflection of each nation's character, history and culture. This letter has a unique structure in each country, and has changed in its form and function. Through a letter, generally used in daily life, I tried to deliver a message which appears by interacting between the painting factors of a letter, the image, form, and the subject of a letter mixed with my emotion. Especially, I intended to use the image of our emotion as a modeling factor, and to treat the meaning of communication through ancient letter paintings. At first, I was deeply attracted to the plane form of a letter, but attempted an artistic approach by translating it into the third dimension. To make more intense visual effect, escaping from the original area of painting, I chose relief, and this has to do with postmodernism which is called the wexistence of variety, including the wllapse of absolute style and the pattern of the past. That is, I'd rather accept all things than just search for the pure and traditional plane character. This study has a purpose to suggest the direction of the future by analyzing my work, and explained the production of my work in its contents and method.
