조화와 공존을 위한 공간

Abstract

현대미술은 난해하다. 바로 미술의 정의와 정체성의 문제가 중요하게 된 점이다. 과거의 미술개념은 모방(mimesis)이라는 일반적인 개념, 다시 말하면 자연현상을 재현하고 객관적 실체를 그대로 반영하는 그러한 예술개념이었는데, 현대미술은 모방이라고 하는 예술개념과는 인연을 끊었고 추상적인 상징물로 대체시키면서 여러 가지 상이한 예술형태로 나타나고 있다. 특히 1980년대 이후에는 날로 급증하는 사회구조의 변화와 함께 다양한 지역양식과 개인양식의 공존, 기존미술의 차용과 변형, 대중매체의 형상과 방법의 수용 등 다원화의 양상으로 나타나고 있다. 이것은 모더니즘의 특성인 쟝르상의 폐쇄성과 순수성으로 부터 벗어나고자 하는 극복의 방법이며, 동시에 기존의 미술개념을 초월한 새로운 미술의 가능성을 확장하는 포스트 모더니즘을 의미한다. 이러한 상황에서 본인은 여러 가지 다양한 예술형식이 나타나게 된 근거를 예술가의 '자유'라는 특권에 있다고 보고, 개인의 주관적인 여러 특징과 성격을 토대로 하여 동시대의 모든 양상을 폭넓게 수용하면서 작업에 임하였고 그 자유를 수단으로 개인과 타인이 공유할 수 있는 점을 찾아내고자 하였다. 본인은 작업의 형식적 특성에 앞서서 감수성과 상상력의 원천이 '여성'에 있음을 자각하였고 그것에 근거한 조형방식을 찾아보고자 하였다. 본인은 먼저 여성주의와 접근하게 된 배경을 후기 구조주의자들의 담론과, 페미니스트들의 활동상황을 통해서 설명하고, 여성성을 크게 두가지로 나누어 설명하고자 한다. 첫째로 생명의 원천, 생성의 이미지로 보면서 이것을 주제로 다루었던 초현실주의자들과 비교해 보았고, 둘째로 대상과 거리를 취하려는 남성과는 다르게 여성은 기본적으로 관계 지향적이고 객체와 융합하려는 특성을 갖고 있다는 미국여성주의자들의 담론에 입각하여 조화와 화합의 욕구인 패턴과 장식성에 대하여 연구하였다. 이것은 1970년대 P&D (Pattern & Painting)이라고 칭하는 운동과 연계를 찾아 보고자 하였고 특히 미리엄 사피로(Miriam Schapiro)의 작품과 비교하였다. 작업방식으로는 장인정신과 여성의 수(手)작업에 근거한 자동기술법적인 반복의 행위와 열린 마음으로 모든 회화 양식과 다양한 재료를 다루고자 하였는데 본인의 작업방식과 비슷한 점을 미국의 뉴이미지 계열의 작가 제니퍼 바틀렛(Jennifer Bartlett)에게서 찾아 보고자 한다. 마지막으로 사진의 표현 가능성에 대하여 연구함으로써 새로운 시각 상황을 만들어 보고자 하였다. 본 논문은 제작논문으로서의 성격을 가지고, 내용적 연구, 방법적 연구, 본인의 작품설명으로 나누어져 있다. 내용적 연구에서는 여성성에서 발견한 조형연구로서 여성성과 접근하게된 배경, 모성에 근거한 생성의 공간, 조화의 욕구로서의 패턴과 장식성을 연구하였고, 방법적 연구에서는 여성의 수(手)작업에 근거한 반복 행위, 이질적인 재료들의 조합, 사진의 표현 가능성에 대하여 설명 하고자 한다. 마지막으로 본인 작품을 분석 제시함으로써 작업에 대한 반성과 앞으로의 작업방향을 모색해 보고자 한다.;Modern art is difficult. That is why the definition and identity of art become important. In the past, the concept of art was a general one, mimesis, which describes natural phenomena, and reflect objective substance, but modern art does not connect with that concept, minesis, but replaces abstract symbols, and it shows several different styles of art. Especially after 1980s, multipolarization, such as the coexistence of various regional patterns and individual ones, the transformation and adaptation of existing art, the acceptance of mass media image and its methods, appears with the increasing change of social structure. This is both a way to recovery, escaping from closing or purity, and postmodernism which expands the possibility of new art, surpassing the existing concept of art. In this situation, I thought the reason why various art styles had appeared was artists, privilege, 'freedom', and worked, accepting every contemporary trend, on the basis of many subjective characteristics and peculiarities. And I tried to find something one and others share by the means of freedom. I recognized that the resource of sensibility and imagination was a 'Woman', and tried to find modeling ways based on the recognition. I'd like to explain the background of feminism through the discourse post-structuralists and activities of feminists, and divide feminity into two characters. First, I took it for the image of life and compared it with hyper-realists, Second, unlike men, women are basically relationship oriented, and apt to fuse into others (on the basis of American feminists' discourse that), I studied on the pattern and decoration which is a desire for harmony and unification. I also tried to connect this with 1970s' P&D (Pattern and Painting movement, and especially, compared with Miriam Schapiro's works. I tried to treat many painting styles and materials with automatic repetitive activities and open heart, and find something in common with American New image artist, Jennifer Bartlett. Finally, I intended to make new visible situations by studying on the expression possibility of photos. This thesis is a kind of production note, and divided into contents study, method study, and the explanation of my work. In contents study, I examined feminity and its modeling discovery, the background of its approach, a place of creation, and the patterns and decorations as a desire for harmony. In method study, I explained repetitive activities based on women's hand work, the combination of different materials, and the expression possibility of photos, Finally, I'd like to reflect on my work and search for the direction of future work by suggesting and analyzing my work.
