도시를 소재로 한 도자 표현

Abstract

The modern world is gripped by rapid changes into capitalism and urbanization, causing complex social conflict. Under these social circumstances, the communitorium life has been destroyed and the human race is faced with great dangers. Through this study, the essence of the urban entity is approached for understanding and the accompanying social conditions are analysed, in order to discover a truly optimistic perception of our current reality. The study purports to express in ceramic art, the environment that we experience in our modern world. Generally, the city is where people, culture, politics and economy are concentrated. It is a space which acts as a central nervous system to society. After the industrial revolution, rapid urbanization took place, bringing convenience to everyday life through science and technology. However, the city has destroyed nature and the environment irreversibly. In order to express the social conditions arising from the stricture of the city, the study analyses the methods of Cubism. The Cubists escape from the linear perception of the Renaissance period, approaching the object from various directions and successfully creating a full effect in a limited space. The ceramic art presented by this study affects an application of the Cubist perception in expressing the essence of urban life. The images buildings have been simplified into geometrical forms, diffused in the process of simplification and rearranged. The ceramic pieces used the slab method which is easily fused together, to affect a spining method, coiling method, and slip casting using gypsum molding. The clay used in the art work used various materials depending on the method of formation, such as mullite clay, celadon clay, San-Chung clay and porcelain clay. Surface design was affected by engraving or pigments to express the urban images and the glaze was sprayed or painted by brush. The ceramic pieces were fired in a gas kiln of 0.7㎥ and for the glaze, a gas kiln of 1.5m3 was used for the first and second firing. The ceramic art works are a composite expression of the conflicts of the modern world that the human race is faced with and the Cubist perception and principles. In these creations the communitarian spirit which will lead us into the 21st century, based on the history that the human race shares, is also embedded through the images of the city. It was possible to realize the essence of the city as a sociological theme, not just the mere visual and scenic aspect. The diversified approach to the city allowed for an abundance of expressive possibilities.;현대는 급속한 변화의 흐름 속에 자본주의화, 도시화되어 가면서 복잡한 사회적 갈등상황을 초래하게 되었다. 이러한 사회현상은 인류의 공동체적 삶을 와해시키고 인간을 위기상황에 놓이게 하는 결과를 낳게 되었다. 따라서 본인은 본 연구를 통하여 도시의 본질을 이해하고자 하였으며 그에 수반되는 사회적 상황에 대해 살펴봄으로써 현실을 긍정적인 시각으로 바라보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 본인이 주변 환경에서 체득하고 있는 경험과 지식에 근거하여 현 사회의 시대적 상황을 도자로 조형화 하는데 있다. 일반적으로 도시는 사람, 문명, 정치, 경제 등이 집중되어 사회생활의 중추적 역할을 하는 공간을 말한다. 산업혁명 이후 급속도로 진행된 도시화는 과학, 공업기술의 발달로 일상생활을 윤택하게 해주었다. 또한 수많은 건축물들이 도시 공간에 들어서게 되면서 자동차, 도로, 가로수 등과 상호작용하여 도시경관을 이루게 되었다. 이러한 도시공간과 그안에서 야기되는 사회현상에 대해 살펴본 후 이를 도자로 조형화하는데 있어 입체파의 조형원리를 이해하여 작품제작에 도입하고자 한다. 입체파는 르네상스이래 지배적인 시각 체계인 일점 원근법에서 탈피하여 다수의 시점에서 대상을 파악하고 지각하는 시점의 복수화를 통해 회화 공간에 풍부한 조형성을 낳게 된다. 작품의 형태는 도시에서 쉽게 지각되어지는 건물의 외형에서 얻어진 기하학적 형태를 단순화하였고, 변형의 과정을 통해 분해하고 재 조합하여 조형화하였다. 제작 방법은 서로 다른 성격을 가진 형태의 표현을 위해서 접합이 용이한 판성형을 위주로 물레성형, 타렴성형, 식고형을 이용한 이장주입 성형을 하였으며 태토는 제작기법의 특성에 따라 abf라이트(Mullite)토, 청자토, 산청토, 이장용 자기토를 사용하였다. 표면 장식은 음각을 하거나 안료를 사용하여 도시 이미지를 표현하였으며 유약은 분무하거나 붓으로 칠해 시유하였다. 소성은 0.7㎥ 석유 가마에서 900℃를 마침온도로 8시간동안 소성하였고 2차소성은 0.7㎥ 석유가마와 1.5㎥ 가스가마에서 1250℃를 마침온도로 8시간 30분, 9시간동안 산화소성 하였다. 이상과 같이 본인은 현재 도시가 처해있는 갈등 상황과 도시를 구성하는 요소들을 도자로 조형하고자 한 대상을 다수의 시점에서 파악한 뒤 해체하고 재구성하는 입체파의 조형원리를 적용하여 작품을 제작하였다. 이러한 과정에서 본인은 도시를 과거의 전통적 표현방법인 풍경으로서의 소재에서 벗어나 사회학적 관점에서 새롭게 인식하게 되었으며 앞으로의 작업활동에서 다각적인 관점으로 접근해 갈 수 있는 풍부한 표현 가능성이 있음을 알 수 있었다.
