Mary Wigman의 예술세계에 관한 연구

Abstract

The expressionism that spread out centering around Germany is early 20th century was an insistence on the expression of the inner world of self without pretense? and a trial to show the real image of human being who is opposing to the existing rules. In spite of its long history, it was the condition that the ballet could not meet sufficiently the free imagination of spectators because of itsformality. On the other hand, the modern dance that exclaimed the liberation of human body and that expressed the inner world of human being by means of free motions was enough to satisfy the German spectators, and consequently it could be easily accepted in Germany. The author studied on the course of formation of the modern expressionism dance that having been raised again nowadays owing to the development of mechanical civilzation and human alienation? and on the art world of Mary Wigman's, a representative of the modern expressionism dance. Born in Hannover, Germany, Mary Wigman(1886-1973) introduced the exxence of expressionism into her dance on the basis of being exprerienced in learning from Emile Jacques Dalcroze(1865-1950) and Rudoif von Laban(1879-1958), and developed the unique sphere of her own in the modern dance She made up a new mode of the modern expressionism dance. She considered the dance as an expression vivid and inborn similarly to language, philosophy and the other parts of art, and had dances inspired with her own inner impulses. Her wide suggestions on the vasic philsophy, motions and the importance of space were also unique. As we have seen, Mary Wigman who left the prominent achievements in the history of the dance indicated a new direction that new dances should to forward, and made a decisive contribution to establishing the foundation of the modem expressionism dance worldwide.;20C초 독일을 중심으로 전개된 표현주의(表現主義)는 가식 없이 자아의 내면세계를 표현하려는 주장이었으며 기존질서에 대항하는 인간의 참된 이미지를 나타내려는 시도였다. 긴 역사에도 불구하고 발레는 그 형식성으로 인하여 관객의 자유로운 상상력을 충분히 만족시키지 못하는 상황이었다. 반면에, 인간 신체의 해방을 부르짖으며 인간의 내면세계를 자유로운 동작으로 표현했던 현대무용은 독일 관객들을 만족시키기에 충분했고, 따라서 현대무용은 독일에서 쉽게 받아들여질 수 있었다. 따라서 필자는 본 연구에서 기계 문명의 발달과 인간소외로 인하여 오늘날 다시 대두되고 있는 표현주의 현대무용의 성립과정과 그 대표자인 마리 위그만(Mary Wigman 1886-1973)의 예술세계에 대하여 고찰하였다. 독일 하노버(Hannover)에서 태어난 마리 위그만은 에밀 쟈크 달크로즈(Emile Jacques Dalcroze 1865-1950)와 루돌프 본 라반(Rudolf von Laban 1879-1958)에게서 배운 경험을 토대로 자신의 춤에 표현주의적 요소를 도입하여 독특한 영역을 전개하였다. 그녀는 춤을 언어나 철학 다른 예술분야와 마찬가지로 인간에게 타고난 하나의 생생(生生)한 표현이라고 생각하였고 자신의 내적 충동에 의하여 춤을 추었다. 또한, 기본철학이나 동작 공간의 중요성에 대한 그녀의 폭넓은 주장은 독특한 것이었다. 이와 같이 무용사에 있어서 뚜렷한 업적을 남긴 마리 위그만은 새로운 무용이 나아갈 하나의 새로운 방향을 제시하였고 독일 표현주의 현대무용이 세계적으로 뿌리를 내리게 하는데 결정적인 공헌을 하였다.
