문을 통한 자유와 소외의 이미지 표현

Abstract

자유에의 갈망이 깊이 느껴진 소외 속에서 존재하는 것이라면 자유와 소외를 따로 떼어놓고는 생각할 수 없는 관계로 볼 수 있다. 대립적이면서도 끊임없이 반복되는 상황을 통해서 바슐라르는 "스스로를 나타내기를 바라고, 스스로 숨기를 바라는 영역에서 열림과 닫힘의 움직임은 너무나 다양하고 자주 역전되며 또한 너무나 주저로움으로 차있다"고 한다. 존재 자체의 다양하고 역전되는 모습이 문의 열리고 닫히는 것과 흡사하다. 통과되고, 공간과 공간을 구획하고, 단절시키는 문을 볼때 자유와 소외의 이미지를 느낀다. 이론적 배경에서 자유와 소외의 이미지를 전달하기 위해서 문을 사용한 조각가 죠지 시걸(George Segal)과 화가 에드워드 호퍼 (Edward Hopper)의 작품을 살펴본다. 그들의 작품속의 문은 인물과 함께 등장하여 관객 자신이 작품속의 인물에 감정을 이입시켜 인물이 문을 통해 느끼는 자유와 소외의 감정을 관객이 느끼게 된다. 본인의 작품에서는 독립적인 문의 열리고 닫히는 모습에 자유와 소외의 이미지를 이입한다. 표현방법은 문을 통해 느끼는 자유와 소외의 이미지를 이질적인 성질의 철 오브제와 석고를 사용하여 나타낸다. 자유와 소외의 대립적 이미지와 문의 열리고 닫히는 반복적인 모습은 견고한 철 오브제와 유동적이면서 시간성이 느껴지는 석고의 대립적인 재료속에서 연결시켜 표현한다. 기계부품의 일부분을 변형하여 만든 철 오브제에 석고를 덧붙이는 작업으로 철 오브제의 공간을 어느 부분은 채우고 또 어떤 부분은 그대로 두어 공간이 막히고, 통과하는 또다른 형상으로 표현한다. 이러한 공간의 막힘과 통과는 소외에서 자유로 다시 자유에서 소외로 넘나드는 이미지를 나타낸다. 따라서 문의 열림과 닫힘의 반복적인 모습은 자유와 소외의 끊임없이 역전하고 순환하는 모습으로서 하나의 형상안에 공존한다.;If crave for freedom exists in alienation, freedom and alienation can't be separated each other. Through a contrast but repeating situation, Bachular says, “The movement of opening and closing in the area one wants to show and hide itself is very various, reversed and full of hesitation.”The apparence of existence itself is similar to opening and closing door. We feel the image of freedom and alienation when we see the door which is passed, and cut off. I will study the sculptor, George Segal and Edward Hopper who used a door to transmit the image of freedom and alienation the door in their works enters with a character, and spectators feel the emotion of freedom and alienation which the character feels through the door. In my work, I bring the image of freedom and alienation into the independent feature of opening and closing door. I present the image of freedom of alienation felt through door, using an iron abjet and plaster. To express the contrast image of freedom and alienation and the feature of repeatedly opening and closing door, I used the contrast materials of solid iron object and flexible and time-felt plaster. By adding the iron objet, which is made and transformed of some part of machine, to plaster, some part of iron objet is filled and some other is not, and that expresses the feature of space which is blocked and passed. This blocking and passing in the space present the image moving from freedom to alienation, alienation to freedom. Accordingly, the repeated feature of opening and closing door exists in one shape as the feature which continuously reverse and circle.
