섬유 소재에 따른 Tapestry의 조형 연구

Abstract

후기 산업 사회에 기계 미학을 추구하던 예술 사조에 따라 예술가들은 새로운 대상과 소재에 대한 관심을 가지고 새로운 영역을 창조하였다. 이는 전통 미술에 대한 도전적이고 혁명적인 사고로써 다양한 소재와 기법으로 개념이나 매체를 통한 작업의 출발점이 되었다. 본 연구는 새로운 소재의 연구와 개발의 가능성으로 자유롭게 조형미를 추구할 수 있는 소재를 선택하여 그 특성을 통한 조형 표현을 시도함으로써 섬유 소재의 개념에 대해 정의하고 사용 가능한 소재의 범위를 확장시키고자 하는 연구이다. 소재 연구에 대한 이론적 배경을 위하여 국내외의 문헌 자료, 관련 서적, 정기 간행물을 통하여 조형물로 발전 가능한 소재에 대해 모색해 보았다. 연구의 과정에서 적절한 표현 소재를 모색하던 중 모노 필라멘트 합성 섬유 소재를 발견, 선택하게 되었고 이 소재의 특성을 통하여 연구자의 과거에 대한 회상속에 존재하는 가시적인 현상 세계와 더불어 볼 수는 없지만 마음으로 느낄 수 있는 현상을 표현하려 하였다. 이 소재는 메마르고 무미 건조한 현대 문명의 특성을 가지고 있지만 소재의 특성에 생명력을 부여함으로써 현재라는 시점에서 과거를 회상함으로 과거로 되돌아가 느낄 수 있는 삶의 범위로 현실에 대한 중요성을 자각하고 그를 바탕으로 더 나은 미래에 대한 희망의 표현을 하고자 하였다. 또한 시각적으로 느낄 수 있는 투명성, 탄성, 신축성의 특성에 삶의 지혜와 법칙등의 주관적인 의미를 부여하여 작품에 적용하였다. 새로운 소재를 선택, 사용함에 있어서 처음에 의도한 결과와 나타난 결과간의 차이에 대한 시행착오로 많은 연구가 선행되었고, 제작 과정과 작품 분석을 통하여 각 소재에 대한 적절한 의미 표현의 방법적 해석을 가능하게 하였다. 본 연구자는 연구 소재의 장점을 살리고 과거 회상으로 느낄 수 있는 세계와 현재, 미래에 대한 의미 표현을 적절하게 하기 위해서 빛의 조건에 따라 광택이 나는 소재를 함께 사용하였다. 그러나 전체적인 구성과 제작의 진전에서 면사, 모사, 마사등 차이 있는 소재를 함께 사용함으로써 소재간의 상호작용으로 의도하지 않았던 색채 효과를 얻을 수 있었다. 2차원의 Tapestry는 기법에 의한 요인으로 과거 속에 사건을 부조적 효과로 표현해 주었다. 그러나 현재 상태에서 과거를 투시하는 듯한 투명한 특성은 벽으로부터 떨어져 나와 3차원의 공간상에 작품을 존재하도록 설치함으로써 빛과 그림자와 공간의 상호 유기적인 작용으로 중첩되어 나타나는 부연의 효과를 얻게 하였고, 이러한 특성을 부각시켜 설치에 따라 2차원에서 3차원으로 발전이 가능함을 보여 주었다. 이러한 과정을 바탕으로 소재의 개념을 확장시키고 그의 장점을 작품 제작에 응용함으로써 작가의 조형 의지 표현에 발전적인 시도가 이루어져야 하겠다.;Following the trend of mechanical art, numerous artists of the second industrial society have created a new movement in interest of new subject and new materials. This new movement is a challenge and revolution against the traditional art which marked a beginning point of new genre with the variety of subjects and techniques. This study is dedicated to defining the concept of fiber materials and to broadening the possibility of usable materials and inquired into the materials with the potentiality to be developed to Plastics works. For the theoretical foundations for studying materials, I have used literatures, relative books, and periodicals published at domestic and foreign, and made an analysis of the contents of the corresponding works. In the process of research of groping for an appropriate material, I came to discover a synthetic fiber material made into Mono-Filament that I have selected. By this substance's special quality, I gave it a try to an expression of a phenomenon that could be felt through mentality although it couldn’t be seen in visible phenomenal world that exists in my retrospection of the past. This material has a special character of severe and dull modern civilization, but by granting the essence of life to the quality of the material, reflecting the past from a point of present, realized the importance of realities in the extent of living that could be felt by going back to the past. I tried to express a hope for a better future grounding in it. I also applied on a product the special quality of Transparency, Flexibility and Elasticity that can be felt in the sense of sight that is granted with the subjective significance like wisdom and way of life. For employing the selected new material, because of the difference between the intended results in the first place and the exposed results, a lot of researches were preceded, and it made it possible to perform the methodical interpretation of appropriate expression of meaning for each material through the production process and the work analysis. I used materials that have fact of Luster along with it under the condition of light to make the most out of this material, and to make it appropriate for this world and the present, and the expression of meaning for the future that could be felt by recollecting the past. But I could obtain a color effect that wasns’t intended to get by a reciprocal action of the materials that was resulted from applying the materials together which had differences of general formations, and cotton thread, linen thread and woolen thread in the progress of production. Two-dimensional Tapestry that is a primary factor in the technique have expressed a past event by the relief forms. But the transparent qualities in material, through which the distant past might even be seen, exists in three-dimensional space away from the wall, and it produces a creative form by an organic reaction with light. An installation of the works in three-dimensional space, made it possible to lead to a cubic expression by dint of an illusive effect accidentally generated from the application the shadow by illumination and spatial interactions to the actual work. Seeing the object in three dimensional prospective now depends on how this characteristic is used to install it. It is recommended that more developmental attempts be made for the representation of plastic wills of artists by expanding the general idea of material and applying its strengths to work production on the basis of these processes.
