영산재 나비춤 기본동작의 특성에 관한 연구

Abstract

Every religion has a unique ritual of its own through which it attempts to attain the ultimate purpose that it pursues. In this regard, rituals are used as a tool for the transmission of spiritual value through image. Especially, the Buddhist ritual dance encompasses the ways of Buddhist propagation and the will of deliverance in the form of dance. It is also rich in artistic quality and most valuable on the aspect of religious arts. But the value of thought in Buddhist rituals is disappearing due to the modernization and Westernization. Yeongsanjae, one of the Buddhist rituals, refines the religious will with dance in which the Buddhist sound and Buddhist fine art are organically combined to be developed into the largest Buddhist ritual. This period of this ritual was 3 days in the past. But now it is shortened to only 1 day and, as a result, the Jakbeopmu, the Buddhist ritual dance in Yeongsanjae, has also shrunk and due to such phenomenon it is worried that Jakbeopmu will disappear in part. Actually, there are some ways of dancing that have disappeared being transmitted in only names. This surely is a loss in historical and artistic sense. In this regard, this study attempted to analyze the ‘Na Bi Choom’ in Yeongsanjae, which is the No. 50 major intangible cultural asset of Korea. The 20 main basic movements in Na Bi Choom are selected in segmentation with the purpose to identify the characteristics of Na Bi Choom. Originally, the largest part of the Yeongsanjae is a religious function. However, as the national arts begin with religious rituals in any country, Yeongsanjae has been merged comprehensively with our traditional arts and breathed with the public to date. Thus it is thought that the study of Yeongsanjae and Jakbeopmu, which have been mixed with our traditional arts, will be an effective way for the understanding of the characteristics of our dance, breath and national thoughts. To attain such purpose, this study applied the methodology of the collection, summary and analysis of mainly the video materials and verified literature for the Na Bi Choom in Yeongsanjae. For the understanding of the Na Bi Choom, first of all, it is necessary to summarize the thoughts contained in Buddhist ritual. Then the origin of formation process of the ritual of Yeongsanjae as well as the concept and kinds of Jakbeopmu were summarized, and the character of Na Bi Choom was grasped through the performance types and procedures of Na Bi Choom. In addition, the basic stance and moves of the Na Bi Choom was divided into more details for analysis and the dancing clothes and music were arranged on which the symbolism and the internal characteristics of the dancing move were researched. Consequently, it was reconfirmed that the movement and thoughts in the Na Bi Choom are organically combined to play an important role in the Buddhist ritual of Yeongsanjae, which is one of the bases for the philosophy of our nation. In addition, it was found out that the Na Bi Choom had a close relationship with the traditional dance of Korea since its characteristics of dynamism in static movement and also the spiral and arc lines correspond to the characteristics of our dance. This study is expected to be a solid basis for the development of the creative modern dance of Korea in that the production of modern products are based on the inheritance of tradition.;모든 종교는 나름대로의 독특한 의식이 있으며 그 의식을 통하여 종교가 추구하는 궁극의 목적을 달성하려고 노력한다. 이런 점에서 볼 때 의식이란 정신적 가치가 형상을 통하여 전이되는 도구로 사용 되어지는 것이다. 특히 불교의식무용은 불교포교의 방편과 해탈 의지가 함축되어 춤의 형태로 나타난 것으로서, 예술성 또한 풍부하여 종교적, 예술적 측면에서 그 가치가 매우 높다. 하지만 불교의식은 현대화, 서구화로 인해 그 사상적 가치관이 점점 사라져 가는 형편이다. 불교의식 중 하나인 영산재는 종교적 의지가 춤으로 승화되어 범음ㆍ범패, 불교미술과 유기적으로 결합하여 오늘날 가장 큰 불교의식으로 발전되었다. 하지만 이 의식 또한 예전에는 3일에 걸쳐 거행되었으나 현재는 1일로 축소되어 거행하고 있다. 따라서 그에 속한 영산재 불교의식무용 즉, 영산재 작법무 또한 축소된 것이 사실이며 이러한 현상으로 인해 작법무의 부분적 소실이 우려된다. 실제로 현재 이름만 전해올 뿐 소실된 춤사위가 있으며, 이것은 역사적으로나 예술적으로 큰 손실이 아닐 수 없다. 이에 본 논문은 대한민국 중요무형문화재 제 50호 영산재 의식 중 나비춤의 분석을 시도하였으며, 나비춤을 구성하는 주요 기본동작 20가지를 선정하고, 그 20가지 동작을 세분화하여 나비춤의 특성을 규명하고자 하는 목적을 갖는다. 영산재는 본래는 종교적인 기능이 가장 큰 부분을 차지한다. 하지만 어느 민족을 막론하고 민족예술이라는 것은 종교적 제의에서부터 출발 하듯이, 영산재는 전통예술과 종합적으로 융합되어 대중과 호흡하며 오늘에 이르렀다. 따라서 우리 전통예술과 습합하여 발전되어 온 영산재 작법무를 연구함은 우리 춤의 특징 및 호흡과 민족 사상을 이해하는데 용이한 방법이라 생각된다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 본 연구는 영산재 나비춤의 비디오 자료와 고증된 문헌을 중심으로 정리ㆍ종합하여 분석하는 방법을 적용하였다. 나비춤을 이해하기 위해서는 먼저 불교의식사상을 정립하는 것이 필요하고 그 다음으로 영산재 의식의 기원과 형성과정, 작법무의 개념 및 종류를 정리하고 나비춤의 유형 및 진행절차를 통하여 나비춤의 성격을 파악하였다. 그리고 나비춤의 기본자세와 춤사위를 세분화하여 분석하고, 무복 및 음악을 정리함을 바탕으로 춤사위의 상징성과 움직임의 내적 특성을 추출하여 연구하였다 그 결과 나비춤은 춤동작과 춤사상이 유기적으로 결합되어 우리 민족 사상의 토대 중 하나인 불교의 영산재 의식에서 중요한 역할을 한다는 것을 또 한번 밝힐 수 있었으며, 나비춤의 정중동과 나선 및 호선의 특징은 우리 춤의 특징과 부합되어 우리민족 전통춤과 나비춤이 긴밀한 연관성을 갖고 있다는 사실을 도출할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구는 현대 창작 작업이 전통의 호흡에 그 기반을 둔다는 점으로 볼 때, 현대 한국 창작 춤의 발전에 토대가 되리라고 생각한다.
