비제직(非製織)에 의한 투명성 표현 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 현대 섬유예술에 있어서 투명성 표현에 관한 연구이다. 이 연구에서 말하는 투명성이란 제직된 작품의 뒷 배경에 존재하는 색채, 형태가 날실의 간격이나 직물 자체내에서 비쳐져서 인지할 수 있는 것을 뜻한다. 현대 섬유예술은 어떠한 형식도 제한도 없으며 여러 새로운 재료와 기법의 도입으로 전통적인 직조기를 사용해서 만들어지는 형태뿐만 아니라, 예술 표현이 가능한 것이면 무엇이든 자유롭게 사용되고 있다. 이렇듯 현대 섬유 예술은 그 표현 범위가 자유로워졌다. 그러한 다양한 표현중 투명성은 고대(古代)에서부터 나타난 표현이지만, 특히 현대에 들어와서 과학과 기술에 의한 재료의 개발로 그 표현방법이 다양해졌다. 섬유의 투명성은 주로 비치는 것을 뜻하게 되는데, 이것은 빛이 직물을 통해 투시할 수 있는 특성이 잘 나타나는 것이므로 직물의 유연성, 질감, 색상, 늘어뜨린 직물의 물성(物性)을 다양하게 연구할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 섬유예술에서 전개되고 있는 투명성 표현을 크게 재료와 기법에 의한 투명성으로 분류하여, 그 조형적 특성을 분석하고 비제직(非製織) 된 날실의 투명성으로 나타나는 공간감 효과를 연구하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이론적 연구방법으로는 현대 섬유예술 발달과정에 대하여 살펴 보았으며, 국내 외 기존작가들의 작품을 제시하면서 투명성 표현방법에 대하여 분석하였다. 작품제작에 있어서는 제직하지 않은 날실의 조형적 표현으로 투명성이 주는 공간감에 촛점을 맞추었다. 투명성 표현을 위하여 광택있는 인견사를 날실로 선택하였고, 창의 이미지에서 모티브를 얻어 기하학적 구성을 하였다. 기법은 평직으로 직기를 사용하였다. 이러한 작품제작과 연구과정의 결과, 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 작품에서 날실을 제직하지 않음으로 해서 뒷 배경이 비쳐지는 투명성 표현방법은 효과적이었다. 둘째, 뒷 배경이 보여지는 투명성은 작품을 2차원적인 평면성에서 벗어나게 하여 3차원적 공간감으로 표현할 수 있었다. 세째, 투명성은 빛과 함께 조화되어서 그 효과를 발하는데, 인견사는 빛을 흡수하는게 아니라 반사하는 성질을 가지고 있어 광택을 지닌다. 이러한 빛에 의한 광택은 투명성을 효과적으로 표현하는 역할을 하며, 인견사는 그 표현에 적절한 재료였다. 네째, 작품의 디자인 의도에 따라 날실을 제직하지 않음으로 해서, 날실을 제직한 부분과 함께 빛의 통과에 따른 투명과 불투명의 대비를 이루어 상대적으로 투명성 효과를 강하게 느끼게 하였다. 다섯째, 작품에서 표현하려는 투명성은 평면적인 공간에서 탈피하여 3차원적인 입체작품으로의 가능성을 제시한다. 이러한 결론을 바탕으로 투명성을 표현하기 위해서는 빛과 투명성을 살릴 수 있는 공간 구성과 이에 알맞는 재료나 기법의 중요성에 대한 인식이 선행되어야 한다. 나아가서 투명성 표현을 위해 새로운 재료의 개발과 광선의 효과적인 도입이 과학 기술의 발전과 섬유예술가의 창조적인 노력에 의해 더욱 많이 연구되어야 한다.;This study is about expression of 'Transparency' in the modem fiber art. The term transparency used in this study means that the color and form of scene from behind of weaving work can be recongnizible by transparency through interval of warp and stuff itself. Modem fiber art does not have any formal limit. Not only adopting new materials and skills to form with traditional loom, but also using any kind of skills which is helpful for expression of art. Expression of modem art has such a free expression range within such a various expression skills, though transparency is originated from old age. It's expression skill has been diversed with the help of science and technology on modern times. Transparency of fiber mainly means clearness character of look through. This character shows ability which light is seen through stuff, so we need to study various about softness of fiber, texture, color, and properties of matter which is hang down. The objective of this study is to classify about transparency which has been developed in fiber art, mainly material and skill, and to analyse the formative special quality and to express space perception which is appeared through transparencing non-weaving warp. I had researched about developing process of modem fiber art as theoritical background, and analy sed expression of transparency with representing works of domas tic and foreign artists. In Practicing my works, I focused on space perception that is expressed by transparency given by formative expression of non- weaving warp. To express transparency, I made a geometrical formation with the motive of window image. Plane weave was used as weaving method. Through those process of manufacturing works and researching, I get conclusion like those ; First, Transparency, which shows behind background. getting from non-weaving warp was very effective skill to express image of window. Second, Transparency which shows behind background was able to overcome two dimensional plane and to express three dimentional space perception. Third Transparency reveals its effect through harmonizing with light. Rayon yam has luster not by absorbing light but refflecting light. These luster caused by light has a role to express transparency effectively, so the rayon yarn was appropriate material for expression. Fourth, Intentionally not weaved warp according to the design, I could give a relatively increased transparent effect as comparing non-weaving warp to weaving warp about transparency and opacify related to passing light. Fifth, transparency which was intended to express through the works suggests a possibility of three dimensional cubic work as overcoming plane. Regarding those conclusion as a backgroud, we are to form a space for adding effect of light and transparency and to recognize the importance of light and transparency to recognize the importance of choosing proper materials and skills to express better transparency. And for better expression of transparency, Developing new materials and adopting effective light should be accompanied by development of science and technology, and creative efforts of fiber artists.
