교차적 구조를 통한 soft sculpture 작품제작 연구

Abstract

This study researches the peculiar plasticity using the soft materials. The soft sculpture, from the point of view of materials, is a work produced by soft materials. The soft sculpture has made a contribution to the extension of new materials and artistic presentation for the recent thirty years. Also the domain of soft sculpture has been extended by modern artists who seek creative activities using soft materials. The soft sculpture is referred as a plastic art by soft materials such as fiber, flexible plastics, rubber, etc., and there is no special limit on its materials. This study is accomplished by using fiber and bamboos mainly among various soft materials. The sculpture by fiber used the stuffed technique and the basketry technique and the work by bamboos took the line-structured technique and the basketry technique. The purpose of this study is to work with the cross-structured sculpture to research soft materials and accordingly the techniques. The contents of this study include examining the process of development of soft sculpture, working on the unfolding methods according to techniques of soft materials, and presenting a concrete work and analyzing the materials and techniques. The first method of this study was a survey of professional literature for the theoretical background of the concept and development process of soft sculpture. The twenty seven pieces of art work of the existing artists related to this study were presented by a chart. Last, the three pieces of work made out of vegetable fiber and the four by bamboos were analyzed to reach the result through this study. The results of this study are as follows : First, the inner space as well as the outer were included in perspective with the cross-structured work. Second, the extension of work size can be done easily with the stuffed technique and the line-structured technique. Third, the fiber can be dyed and hung down and therefore the decorative expression is possible with the variety of sizes. Last, feminine artistic color shows with soft by the vegetable fiber and speciality and decoration of the stuffed technique and the basketry technique.;본 연구는 soft한 재료를 이용하여 독특한 조형성을 탐구하기 위한 의도로 시작되었다. soft한 재료로 제작된 조각 작품을 재료상의 분류로 Soft Sculpture라고 한다. 최근 30년간 현대 미술에서 새로운 재료 및 미술 표현 영역 확장에 기여하였고, soft한 재료를 이용하여 혁신적인 작품 활동을 추구해온 현대 미술가들에 의해 영역이 확장되고 있다. Soft Sculpture는 soft한 재료일 섬유, 연성 플라스틱, 고무 등을 이용한 조각 작품을 의미하며, 재료에 특별한 제한이 있는 것은 아니다. 본 연구는 여러 종류의 soft한 재료들 중 특히 직물과 대나무를 주로 이용하여 이루어졌다. 섬유를 소재로 한 조형은 주로 봉제형태기법과 Basketry 기법으로 이루어졌으며, 대나무를 소재로 한 조형은 선재구성 기법과 Basketry 기법으로 이루어졌다. 본 연구의 목적은 soft한 재료와 그에 따른 기법을 탐구하기 위한 교차적 구조 작품 제작 연구이다. 본 연구의 내용은 첫째, Soft Sculpture의 전개 과정을 고찰하였으며, 현대 Soft Sculpture가 어느 범위에까지 이르렀는지를 고찰하였다. 둘째, soft한 재료와 기법에 따른 작업의 전개 방식에 대하여 다루었다. 셋째, 구체적인 작품을 제시하고 재료와 기법을 중심으로 분석하였다. 본 연구의 방법은 먼저 Soft Sculpture의 개념과 전개 과정 등 이론 하여 연구하였다. 이론적 배경을 살핌에 있어서 본 연구와 관련있는 기존 작가들의 작품 27점을 목적표출하여 도판으로 제시하였다. 마지막으로 본 연구를 통해 얻어진 결과로 식물성 직물을 소재로 한 작품 3점과 대나무를 소재로 한 작품 4점을 분석하였다. 이러한 연구를 통해서 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교차적 구조의 작품으로 투시적이며 외부 공간 뿐 아니라 작품 내부의 공간도 작품에 포함되었다. 둘째, 봉제형태기법과 선재구성기법으로 작품 규모의 확장성이 용이하다. 셋째, 공예적인 복합성을 가진다. 직물은 염색이 가능하고 늘어 뜨리는 효과를 낼 수 있으며, 형태의 크기를 다양하게 할 수 있어서 장식적인 표현이 가능하다. 넷째, 식물성 직물에서 느껴지는 부드러움과 섬세함, 봉제 기법과 Basketry 기법의 특수성, 장식성 그리고 노동집약적인 수작업의 제작 과정 등으로 페미니스트 미술의 색채를 가진다.
