Abstract
In this thesis, two selections from the graduation concert repertoire Bach-Bisoni's Chaconne d minor and F.Siszt's Sonata b minor are carefully examined. F.Busoni is a New Classical german composer who lived an active life from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Chaconne d minor, one of his piano pieces, is an arrangement of Chaconne of J.S.Bach's Partita No.2 for violin. It is composed of the theme & 32 variations and coda. Each variaton is consisted of harmonic and contrapuntal structure on the basis of the harmonic progress of the theme. Arranging the original music, Busoni created a peculiar sound by means of variating tempo, expansion of range, use of continuant, and detailed directon of musical symbol. In addition, he employed various techniques. F.Liszt is a composer of 19th century Romanticism as well as a talanted pianist. In his one and only piano sonata b minor, five thematic elements appear in the cyclic form throughout the whole music by means of the thematic variation technique. As for the tonal structure, he sticks to that of classical sonata. However, in the aspect of composition and handling the theme, he shows a single movement composition other than classical form. This indicates that he tried to overcome the traditional form. He used Augmentation and diminution rhythm and simplication of the theme. By applying technique used in symphonic poem to piano, he made the best use of the orchestral sound on the keyboard instrument.
