Abstract

The research is to survey how the education of classical novel is putting into operation. First of all I surveyed three works - Shimchong-jon, Toki-jon, Honggildong-jon - which is collected in middle school text-books, examining the phase of the education, and then I tried to suggest a guide principle for the desirable schooling of classical novel; further, for the national language. Chapter Ⅱ, to examine the phase of middle school education of the classical novel, I review the meaning and the practical goal of education of literature. I think it reasonable that I should examine the purport and purpose of the education of classical literature, for the classical novel is a part of classical literature, so I first examine the purport of the education of classics and then give a careful study with textbooks. After examining the purport and purpose of the education of classics, I argued about the goal and the effect of education of classical novel. The conclusion is that: classical novel is showing our ancestor's life, so, we can learn the point of view and the wisdom of our predecessor by reading and understanding the classical novel, and we can renew and refresh our national literature and cultural tradition by inherit the sentiment and idea of our nation. Chapter Ⅲ, I dealt the present status of the education of classical novel. For this purpose, first of all, I analized the contents of the works collected in textbook, and then, to deal with the matter of curriculum, I surveyed the instruction plan, goal of learning, goal of chapters, and the contents of study activities presented in teaching manual. Finally, to examine the evaluations of the result of learning, I classified the questions. Chapter Ⅳ concerns the problems and the improvement plan of the education of classical novels which are discussed in chapter Ⅲ. So it argues about several problems showed in real situation of the education of classical novels, and then suggests a plan for improvement. As the results, this research examines the present status of education in middle school to suggest a proposal about how the education of classical novels will have to be, to make learners be interested in classics and be proud of national literature and be filled with homogeneous feeling of a race.;본 연구는 우리나라 古典文學의 한 갈래인 古典小說 敎育이 中學校에서는 어떻게 시행되고 있는지를 살펴보기 위해서 시도된 것이다. 이를 위하여 중학교 1, 2, 3학년 국어교과서에 수록된 세 작품 - 심청전, 토끼전, 홍길동전 -을 중심으로 고전 소설 교육의 위상을 살펴보고, 교육 현황을 검토함으로써 바람직한 고전 소설 교육, 나아가서는 바람직한 국어 교육이 되도록, 하나의 지침을 제시하고자 했다. Ⅱ 단원에서는 중학교 있어서 고전 소설 교육이 차지하고 있는 위상 및 위치를 살펴보는 것으로 먼저 문학 교육의 일반론에 근거하여 문학 교육의 의의, 중학교에서 이루어지고 있는 문학 교육의 실제 목표를 검토하였다. 또한 고전 소설은 고전 문학의 한 갈래이므로 고전 문학 교육의 취지 및 의도를 먼저 살펴보는 것이 순서이므로, 고전 교육의 취지를 검토하고 교과서에 수록된 고전 문학 작품도 실제로 살펴보았다. 문학 교육의 의의, 고전 교육의 취지에 대한 검토 후 고전 소설 교육의 목표 및 취지에 대해서 논의하였는데, 결국 고전 소설은 그 당대를 살아간 우리 조상들의 삶을 수용하고 있으므로 고전 소설을 읽고 이해함으로써 작품이 창작된 시대의 삶과 선인들의 가치관, 삶의 지혜를 배울 수 있으며, 우리민족의 정서와 사상을 이어받음으로써 민족 문학, 문화의 전통을 새롭게 되살려 나갈 수 있다고 제시하였다. Ⅲ 단원은 고전 소설 교육의 실제 현황을 다루었다. 이를 위하여 교과서에 수록된 작품의 내용을 먼저 분석하였고, 그 다음으로는 교육 과정의 측면을 다루기 위해서, 교사용 지도서에 제시된 단원의 지도 계획, 학습 목표, 소단원의 목표 학습 활동의 내용을 중점적으로 살펴보았다. 끝으로 학습 결과의 평가 내용을 검토하기 위해서, 시중에서 출판되는 문제집을 中心으로 평가의 실태를 살펴보았다. Ⅳ 단원은 고전 소설 교육의 문제점과 개선 방안에 대한 논의로서, Ⅲ 단원에서 살펴본 고전 소설 교육의 실제 현황에서 나타난 몇 가지 문제점에 대해서 논하고, 그 개선 방안을 제시하였다. 결국 본 연구는 고전 소설, 고전 문학 교육을 통하여, 학습자들에게 고전이 따분하고 어려운 것이 아니라는 것을 일깨워 주고 민족 문학에 자부심을 느끼며 민족적 동질감을 회복시켜 주는, 바람직한 변화가 나타나도록 하기 위해서는 앞으로 어떻게 고전 소설 교육이 이루어져야 하는가라는 문제점에 하나의 대안을 제시하고자, 현재 시행되는 중학교에서의 교육현황을 검토해 본 것이다.
