의사소통 접근법 (communicative approach)에 기초한 국민학교 영어교육 프로그램 개발 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 의사소통 접근법에 기초한 국민학교 영어교육 프로그램을 개발·제시하는데 있다. 본 연구는 Tyler의 교육과정 개발 절차에 따라 의사소통 접근법의 이론을 적용하여 프로그램을 개발하고 개발된 프로그램을 소집단에 적용한 후 수정과정을 거쳐 연구대상 학급인 서울시 영등포구에 위치한 D국민학교 4학년 한 학급 53명을 대상으로 프로그램을 적용 하였는데 그 내용은 다음과 같다. 본 프로그램의 목표는 일상 생활이나 주변에 관한 초보적인 의사소통 능력 배양에 두고 영어에 대한 흥미와 관심을 높이도록 하는데 두었다. 학습 경험의 선정은 학습자의 흥미와 요구에 따라 대인관계에서 일어나는 간단하고 친밀한 소재를 선정하였으며 아동의 수준에 맞도록 적절한 어휘나 문장을 선택하여 부담없이 학습하도록 하였다. 학습경험의 조직은 듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기를 통합적으로 지도하는 것을 원칙으로 직접식 교수법, 전신반응법, 공동체 학습 방법을 적용하여 준비, 인지, 연습, 활용 정착의 5단계로 지도하였다. 의사소통 능력 신장을 위해 다양한 학습자료와 여러가지 관련 활동을 하였으며 학습의 마지막 단계에서 간단한 읽기와 쓰기를 하였다. 아동들에게 더 많은 의사소통의 기회를 부여하기 위해 실제의 상황을 설정하여 아동중심의 활동을 하기 위한 분단학습을 한 후 교사와 의사소통의 시간을 갖도록 하였으며 학습한 내용은 반복, 심화, 확대함으로써 아동들이 학습에 자신감과 즐거움을 느끼도록 하였다. 프로그램의 평가는 대화능력, 듣기 능력, 어휘력을 중심으로 한 의사소통 능력의 평가와 영어에 대한 흥미와 관심 및 태도에 관한 평가의 두가지로 면접, 지필검사, 질문지 조사를 통해 평가하였으며 매 학습시 형성평가를 하였다. 학습이 끝난 후 실시한 평가 결과를 분석한 결과 아동들의 의사소통 능력이 크게 향상되었으며 영어에 대한 흥미도가 유의미하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 프로그램을 적용하면서 나타난 사실은 의사소통 접근법의 이론에 따라 실지 상황 속에서 아동들이 다양한 언어 활동을 통해 어휘나 구문을 익힘으로써 일상생활이나 주변에 관한 간단한 대화를 하는데 자신을 갖게 되었으며 영어학습에 대한 흥미와 관심이 높아지고 적극성이 생기게 되었다는 것이다. 또한 의사소통 중에서 반복되는 어휘에 들어있는 읽기와 쓰기 지도를 함으로써 언어학습이 통합적으로 이루어질 수 있었다.;The purpose of this study is to develop an elementary-school English education program, based on communicative approch. The program was developed by applying the theory of communicative approach according to Tyler's curriculum development procedure. And the developed program was implemented to the 53 4th-grade-year students of a D elementary school located in Youngdeungpo-gu, Seoul. The aim of the program is to increase children's interest in English with focus on bringing up the elementary communicative competence related to common life and surroundings. In respect of learning experience, simple and intimate objects occuring in everyday life and interpersonal relations were selected according the children's interest and demand to be adjusted appropriate to the level of children. In organizing learnig experience, they were taught with the methods of direct method, total physical response and community language learning on a principle of guide synthesizing the four divisions: speaking, hearing, reading and writing. Various learning materials and relative activities were employed for their advance in communicative ability. And group activities were given for children to have more communicative opportunities. Assessment of learing experience included those about communicative ability and degree of interest. The method used paper examination, interview and questionnaie assay. As the result from an analysis of assessment outcomes implemented after learning, children's communicative ability was improved greatly and the degree of interest in English appeared hightered significantly. The pattern of English eduation program based on communicative approach, conclusively, was appropriate for bringing up communicative competence and increase the interest in English.
