Abstract

In the repetitive transfiguration in mode and new approaches of the 20th century art which shoves a trend of variation and specialization, it has a just need for the artist to analyze and study M. Abakanowicz's formative world that is formed of an exploration into nature and man not heavily connected to the stream of the Western modern art but making use of fiber material. The purpose of this study is to analyze his artworks and identity the formative character of him. The contents of the study included studies about the 20th century art, soft sculpture, Installation and M. Abakanowicz's artistic world. And, among his works, 'ABAKAN' and 'Alterations' which expressed well the character of fiber material and had some deepened thematic consciousness were chosen as the central subjects to be analyzed. Considerations to identity character were focused on material , form and space. Basic tools for the study consisted of literary research and considerations upon the works submitted for exhibition. Piece-sampling followed a way of voluntary sampling. Sixty-eight pieces which represented well the character of his work were sampled, and the results of an analysis of them are as follows. The material is of natural fiber with flexibility, movability and tactile sense. Making use of the vitality of the material's own, the cyclic rhythm and systematic connectivity of natur is expressed. 'ABAKAN' shows well the character of fiber material, and expresses the tolerance and cyclic flow of nature. 'Alterations' expresses the anonymous generality given to man through a figure of collective people, And, according to ways of installment, it has a feeling of mental strain that represents an inquiry into the original problems of a generalman and perseverance and resistance of or against outer suppression. His space has a character of irregular and temporal arrangement in the manner of installation, and, in case of 'Alterations', some increase and alterations of meaning were groped for through repetitive installation.;현대 산업사회는 점차 다원화와 전문화를 통한 抽象的 社會로 진전되어 현대 이전의 사회가 지닌 자연과의 긴밀한 相關性이나 個人間의 對面的인 구체적 삶은 크게 위축되었다. 20세기 현대미술의 거듭되는 樣式的 變貌속에서 기술산업사회를 이끈 서구의 분석적 사고체계보다는 오히려 동양의 직관적 사유에 근접하여 인간다운 삶의 회복을 指向하는 M. Abakanowicz의 작품세계는 어떤 조형적 특성을 지니고 있는지 알아볼 必要가 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 M. Abakanowicz의 작품을 분석하여 그 조형적 특성을 糾明하는데 있다. 본 연구의 내용은 M. Abakanowicz作品의 조형적 특성을 규명하기 위해 理論的 背景으로 20세기 미술과 Soft Sculpture, Installation, M. Abakanowicz의 예술세계를 考察하였다. 作品分析은 M. Abakanowicz의 作品中 深化된 주제의식과 조형적 특성이 잘 나타난「ABAKA」과 「Alterations」을 중심으로 材料, 形態, 空間으로 분류하여 그 特性을 규명하였다. 본 연구의 방법은 文獻과 作品을 기본도구로 하였으며, 作品標集은 M. Abakanowicz 作品의 조형적 특성이 잘 나타난 것으로 目的標集하여 分析하였다. M. Abakanowicz의 작품을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 材料는 유연성, 유동성, 촉각성을 지닌 천연섬유로 材料自體의 生命力을 이용하여 自然의 循環的 rhythm과 有機的 연결성이 표현되었다. 形態는 自然이 抽象的으로 형상화된 「ABAKAN」과 인체와 생태계의 原初的 형태가 변형된 「Alterations」로 대별된다. 「ABAKAN」에서는 자연의 포용성과 循環的 流動性이 표현되었다. 「Alterations」에서는 변형과 복제에 의한 익명적 인간의 보편성과 운동감을 상실한 脫穀된 形態의 靜態性이 표현되었다. 空間은 自然의 有機·循環性과 作品이 空間의 個性에 따라 종속되는 一時性, 意味의 증폭과 변환을 지닌 反復性이 그 特性이다.
