무용창작에 연극적 연출이 미치는 영향에 대한 연구

Abstract

The history of dance as spatial art is relatively shorter than other arts such as fine art, sculpture, music, and drama but, in some respects, dance is much more complex than other arts because dance tends to refuse fixation and to be temporary art. In consequence, dance is inseparably connected with the aesthetic response, spontaneous and ephemeral, of the audience who are watching the dance performance, therefore the dance connunity has tried to elicit and capture the transient feeling of the audience and in many ways it has struggled to extend dance's limitations. In this connection, some dance artists turn their attention to other art, especiully drama, to widen dance performance's horizon and begin to introduce drama techniques into and apply to dance performances, and even drama director's involvement in dance performance tends to increase steadily. Under such a circumstance, dance artists' attitude assumes the most vital importance because they have to absorb theatrical intrusion, digest, and consolidate it into dance performances. If they might not do so, dance performances will be degraded in quality and, accordingly, dance artists must be equipped with enough knowledge about drama techniques and, to some degree, can anticipate the effect and result of drama director's participation in dance performances. This thesis is intended to analyze the influence and consequences of drama director's involvement in dance performances, and to suggest ways appropriate for dance artists to follow, based on questionnaires gathered form drama directors who have got involved in dance performances.;무용창작은 전체 작품군성에 있어 춤, 미술, 을악, 조명, 의상, 분장등 각기 다른 여러분야의 예술이 총체적으로 적용되는 행위이기 때문에 많은 어려움을 수반할 뿐만 아니라 그에 따르는 정보의 요구가 많아진다. 이러한 복잡하고 다양한 쟝르가 한데 어우러져 복합적이고도 종합적인 예술의 표현으로 나타나는 무용창작에 있어서 가끔은 습관화된 감각과 단조로운 테크닉만을 사용하여 작품이 만들에졌다는 느낌을 받을때가 있다. 이것은 안무자의 타 예술에 대한 무경험, 즉 체계적인 학문적 연구나 인식의 결여에서 비롯된다고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 측면에서 무용창작의 안무자는 영화의 감독이나 연극의 연출자처럼 전체작품의 흐름과 주제부각에 따르는 일관된 표현의식을 갖고 있어야 한다. 결국 앞서 말한 창작의 모든 요소를 안무자 스스로가 경험하거나 체득하고 습득하여야 한다고 본다. 그리나 안무자의 무대표련의식이라는 전문적인 지식의 관점에서 볼 때 대부분미 무용실기에 치증해왔기 때문에 그외 부수적인 학습경험을 할 기회가 그리 많지 않았다. 따라서 안무자가 무용창작에서 춤의 구성이나 동작의 표현요소는 자신이 있을지라도 그 외의 요소는 그 분야의 전문가에게 의뢰해야 하는 입장이다. 그중에서 작품전체의 구성과 표현방법의 제반요소 등 무대가 갖는 특징은 전문 연출자가 있어야 한다고 본다. 이직은 우리에게 조금은 생소한 「무용연출」이라는 말의 의미해석을 굳이 붙이자면 무용창작의 작품구성과 전체 안무의 흐름에 있어서 무용수와 무대적 제만요소 그리고 관객들과의 긴밀한 공감과 유대형성 등 모든 부분을 구체적으로 표현해 내는 것을 말한다. 이러한 뜻에서 무용 창작과 연극적 연출이 갖는 상관관계와 보완작용을 더듬어 보고 또한 연극적 연출이 무용창작작업에 미치는 발전적 입장을 살펴본다. 본 논문은 우리나라 무용창작의 현장을 중심으로 연출자의 참여를 조사하여 무용창작 작업에 얼마만큼 영향을 주었으며, 기존 연극의 연출적 요소를 무용창작에 어떻게 적용시킬 수 있는가를 알아보고 앞으로의 창작작업에 연극적 연출의 위치를 추측해 본다.
