佛敎를 통해서 본 作法에 관한 연구

Abstract

불교는 이 세상 인류를 교화하고 구제하기 위해서 내세우고 주장한 종교로 인간 고뇌의 해결을 그 목적으로하고 있다. 이러한 목적으로 인도에서 발생된 불교는 중국을 거처 우리나라에 전래되는데 사회풍토·사상·예술·정치·경제 등 여러분야에 걸처서 독특한 민족문화를 산출하게 되었다. 불교문화의 전래는 역사적으로 볼때, 고대 한국의 정신 및 예술세계에 일찍이 보지 못하였던 큰 변화를 일으켰으며 우리의 역사와 문화의 근간이 되어 훌륭한 예술을 창조하게 되는 큰 힘이 되었다. 불교는 종교이면서도 풍부한 예술성을 갖고 있으며 그 종류나 형식 또한 매우 다양하다. 작법(作法)은 불교의식무용으로 불교적 정신을 무용적으로 표현한 것을 말하는데 처음부터 무용작품을 목표로 해서 만들어진 것은 아니며 오히려 순수한 종교적 동기에서 만들어지게 되었던 것이다. 그러므로 일차적으로는 감상의 대상이 아니라 예배의 대상이 되는것이다. 그런데 우리나라 불교의식에 나타난 무용은 오히려 신앙체험 및 신앙심을 불러 일으키려고 한 의례선행적 산물이라 할 수 있다. 그와 같은 예배의 대상을 무용의 입장에서 보면 형식이나 수법에서 무용 작품의 그것과 공통성을 발견할 수가 있다. 그러므로 본고에서는 이러한 의식무용이 예능적 형태이므로 형식에만 치중한 나머지 정신이 소홀해질_가능성이 있고 불교의 종교성을 잊어버린채 춤사위만의 답습을 가져올 수도 있다. 모든 무용창작에는 -어떤 무용 장르를 막론하고- 「정신성, 내면성」이 중요한 역할을 하며 이것이 결여된 무용에서 감동을 불러일으키기란 기대할 수 없다고 본다. 이러한 의도에서 작법(作法)이 불교의식무용인 만큼 불교의 사상적인면과 불교의식의 전반적인 특성에 연관된 문제에 대한 연구 즉, 무용외적인 요소들의 연구가 불가피한 것이라 생각되었다. 그리하여 Ⅱ장에서는 불교의 의미와 목적 그리고 불교사상을 중심으로 하여 불교의 전반적인 이해를 돕고 Ⅲ장에서는 제의식의 구조를 통하여 작법을 살펴보았고 Ⅳ장에서는 작법이 갖는 이런 사상적인 의미와 춤사위에 나타나는 불법(佛法)의 상징성을 연구하여 작법이 의식무용적인 특성과 미학적으로 승화된 예술무용적 특성을 동시에 갖는다는 점에서 현재에 창작하여 안무되어지고 있는 작품 분석에 따라 전체적으로 안무되어진 과정을 살펴보았다. 이상에서 작법은 불교적 사상을 중심으로하여 구체적으로 오랜 세월을 거쳐오면서 완성된 거의 완벽에 가까운 예술 작품이라고 할 수 있다.;Buddhism is a religion which stands on and maintains enlighting and saving all mankind in the world, and sets up solving humanbeing's distress as its aim. This religion origined in India with such ans aim, was introduced into Korea through China iesulting in producing specific national culture over some areas such as social atmosphere, idea, art, polity and economy. Considering it from its historic viewpoint, transmission of Buddhism into Korea occurred changes so big as to have never seen before ans was of great help in creating a splendid art, based on our history and culture. Being one of religions, it has abundant artistic nature as well as quite varieties of kinds and forms. "Jak Bup" refers to the dance to be performed for Buddhist ceremony that expresses the consciousness of buddhism through dancing. But it was initially created not to make dance work rather but to represent its genuine religious motive. Therefore it should be the object for worship not for appreciation. Neverthless the dance revealed on our consiciousness of Buddhism, is considered as a ceremony-precedent product to raise religious experience as well as belief. When such an object for worship is observed from the standing point of the dance, it can be found that there is some commonness in the form and technic between it and that of dance works. So as this conscious dance has a form of art, giviing too much weight to the form may let it neglect its spirit and just follow prior customs forgetting the importance of Buddhism. In all dance creating-regardless of my dance genre- 'spirituality' 'Inwardness' take an important role. Thus the dance without them can be hard expected to raise deep emotion. Therefore, since 'Jak Bup' is a ceremonial dance of Buddhism, I think it is inevitable to study all relative problems to general characteristics of Buddhist ceremony, that is, to study another factors outside the dance. Thus in chapter Ⅱ, Ⅰ concerned on the meaning, aims and idea of Buddhism, in order to help general understanding of Buddhism. And then in Chapter Ⅲ, Ⅰ researched such an conceptual meaning that 'Jak Bup' has and Buddhist symbolism showed in the dance motion. Thus from the point of view that it has characteristics as ceremonial dance and artistic dance elavorated esthetically, I also observed whole choreographing course, according to the analysis on the works which has created and choreograpled now. In conclusion, it can be said that 'Jak Bup' is an artistic work near to perfection, completed over a long time and centering on Buddhist concept.
