다시점(多視點)에 의한 도시풍경 표현

Abstract

본인은 혼자 거리의 이곳저곳을 돌아다니는 것을 즐긴다. 특히 젊은이들이 많이 모이는 거리를 돌아다니는 것을 좋아하는데 그 곳에서 본인은 젊음과 활기, 솟아오르는 생동감을 느낀다. 반면에 거리로 쏟아져 나온 수많은 사람들의 고독과 소외감에 동감하기도 한다. 본인에게 있어서 도시의 거리는 자유로움을 향한 하나의 출구이며 사람들의 근원적인 고독과 소외의 문제를 접할 수 있는 공간이라 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 내면의 감정과 생각들이 작품 속에서 어떻게 형상화되고 표출되었는지 살펴보았다. 본 논문의 이론적인 연구에서는 먼저 작업의 본질적인 바탕이 되는 이형사신(以形寫神)과 기운생동(氣韻生動)의 이론적 연구를 통해 수묵의 정신적인 측면을 살펴보고 수묵의 시정성(時情性)과 사의성(寫意性)을 통해 수묵의 상징적 의미를 고찰함과 동시에 본인 작품과의 구체적인 관련성을 살펴보았다. 또한 현대사회의 급속한 발전으로 인해 고독과 소외감으로 가득찬 현대인의 내면세계를 알아보았다. 마지막으로 본인의 대학원 초기의 작품과 연관성을 찾아볼 수 있는 조선후기 풍속화 <태평성시도(太平城市圖)>를 중심으로 당시의 거리 풍경이 풍속화에서 어떻게 표현되었고 그것은 어떤 의미가 있는지 알아봄으로써 본인 작품에서의 현대적 변용 가능성에 대해 살펴보았다. 방법적인 연구에서는 자유롭게 시점을 이동해 가면서 사물을 관찰하고 풍경을 포착하여 내는 다시점(多視點)을 민화와 산수화를 통해 알아보았다. 또한 작품에서 사물의 형태가 변형되는 현상을 동양화의 형상기억에 의한 관찰방법을 근거로 서술하고 그것이 본인의 즉흥적 감정과 잠재된 의식에서 비롯된 것이었음을 밝혔다. 마지막으로는 드로잉(Drawing)적 표현과 선의 자율성을 통한 내면정서 표출에 관해 살펴보았다. 드로잉을 통해 감정의 흐름을 화면에 기록함으로써 하나의 흔적으로 남기를 바라며 선의 굵기, 건습, 속도 등의 변화를 통해 다양하게 표현하고자 하였다. 한편 선과 드로잉의 의미를 알아보고 작품과 연관시켜 본인의 내면정서가 어떻게 드러났는가를 살펴보았다. 작품에 있어서는 배채(背彩)기법을 이용하여 화면에서 조형적 재미를 주고자 하였으며 그 위에 거리에서 보여지는 형상들을 변형시켜 즉흥적 생각의 편린들을 드로잉함으로써 화면에서의 조화를 꾀하고 다시점에 의한 화면구성을 통해 현대인의 내면 세계와 풍속을 표현하고자 하였다. 본 논문을 통해 그 동안의 작업들을 하나 하나 정리하며 돌아보는 반성의 기회를 삼는 동시에 이론적, 방법적인 연구와 작품을 분석해 가는 과정을 통해 좀 더 넓은 시각에서 본인의 작품을 바라보고 앞으로 나아갈 작업의 방향을 새롭게 모색해 보고자 하였다.;The author enjoys walking around various places alone. The author likes, in particular, the place where youngsters are gathering, because one can feel the youth, vitality, and springing vigor there. While on the contrary, the author also sympathizes with the loneness and estrangement of numerous people flowing into streets. To the author, a city's streets are a way out to freedom and a space where one can contact with fundamental subjects of human life such as loneness and estrangement. This thesis was aimed to research how such inner feelings and thoughts could be shaped and expressed in artistic works. In this thesis, a theoretical research was first conducted into the materialized spirits and artistic gracefulness that are essential to works. The spiritual side of ink-paintings was researched, the symbolic meanings of the paintings were investigated via poetic sentiments and picturesqueness, and the paintings' relations with the author's works were examined. Likewise, the author looked into the inner world of modem people that is filled with loneness and estrangement owing to the rapid development of up-to-date civilization. Lastly, the author researched the View of a Peaceful City, a renowned genre painting produced late in Joseon Dynasty of Korea, since the connection between the painting and the author's works produced early in his days of the graduate school could be identified. After investigations were made into how streets' view in that dynasty was represented in the genre painting and what meaning the painting has, researches were also conducted into the possibility for the author's works to be applied to a modem city. Next, methodological researches were implemented on folk and scenery pictures to determine their multiple views that were attested in observing things and grasping a landscape from free and varied perspectives. Furthermore, the shapes of things changed and presented in artistic works were described based on the observation method via the form memory of Oriental paintings, and then it was clarified that the said phenomena were derived from extempore emotions and subconsciousness of the author. Finally, examinations were made into the expressions of inner feelings through drawing representations and linear autonomy. The flow of feelings was recorded on a canvas using drawings with the desire that traces would remain, while various expressions were being executed by the changes of linear thickness, humidity, and speed. Besides, the meanings of lines and drawings were sought and researches were conducted into how the author's inner feelings were revealed in their relations with his works. Formative interests were invoked into the canvas using coloring techniques for artistic works. After that, the inner world and customs of moderners were manifested, when the shapes on the streets were changed, fragments of impromptu thoughts were converged for drawings on a canvas, and paintings were composed from multiple perspectives. This thesis was an opportunity for arranging and reflecting the author's works and applying theoretical and methodological researches to the works. The author's ambitions were continuously in mind while this study was conducted to review his works from a wider perspective and to search for a new direction for his works in the future.
