박음질을 이용한 자연의 순환적 이미지 표현

Abstract

자연의 모든 생명체는 변화하고 있다. 그들은 한 순간도 쉬지 않고 생성, 소멸의 물질대사를 반복하며 생을 유지해 나간다. 또한 하나의 개체가 소멸한다 해도 그것은 다시 새로운 세대의 시작으로 이어짐으로서 생명의 고리를 이어간다. 이러한 순환적인 생명력을 갖는 자연은 끊임없이 순환하는 질서를 갖고 있다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구는 이러한 자연의 무한한 생명력에 주목하고, 끊임없는 변화를 반복하는 자연의 순환적 과정에 내포된 미적 요소를 탐구하는데 그 의의를 두며, 자연의 일부인 식물의 생명현상을 분석하여 그 안에 내포되어 있는 자연의 순환적 이미지를 시각화하는데 목적을 갖고 있다. 본 연구는 이론적 배경에서 동양의 순환적 자연관과 식물의 순환적인 생명 현상을 제시하고 자연의 순환적 이미지를 표현한 작가들의 작품을 살펴보았다. 표현 방법적 연구로는 작품에 사용된 오브제와 박음질의 표현에 대해 살펴보고 사용한 실과 바느질이 섬유와 관련된 것이므로 섬유예술 기법의 조형표현과 결부시켜 서술하고자 하였으며, 꼴라쥬와 섬유를 작품에 도입한 작가들의 작품을 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 식물의 생명현상을 통한 자연의 순환과정을 연구의 대상으로 하였다. 작품표현에서는 실을 이용한 박음질을 통하여 자연의 순환적 이미지를 추상적으로 표현하였고 표현된 작품을 이론적 배경, 표현내용, 재료 및 방법에 근거하여 분석하였다. 생명과 소멸을 무한히 반복하는 자연의 순환성을 표현하기 위해 화면을 원으로서 방향성을 갖는 곡선형의 선으로 표현하였다. 특히 선을 표현함에 있어 박음질을 화면에 적극 도입하여 식물의 순환 에너지를 보여 주려하였다. 성장을 향한 무한한 에너지를 지닌 식물의 생명 형태는 화면의 중심을 실로 꼴라쥬 하거나 진하게 채색하여 응축과 확산의 이미지를 나타내었으며 전반적으로 곡선으로 처리하여 유연한 흐름을 나타내려 하였다. 화면 전체, 혹은 부분을 종이 꼴라쥬하여 바탕을 구성함으로서 자연의 무한한 변화를 나타내고자 하였다. 중심에서 화면 외곽 쪽으로 이어진 곡선과 그 곡선을 구성하는 바느질의 미세하고도 유연한 움직임을 통해 식물 내부에서 벌어지고 있는 끊임없는 물질대사를 표현하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 끊임없이 생성, 소멸을 반복하며 순환하는 자연은 하나의 거대한 유기적 생명력을 가지고 있고 자연의 일부로 살아가는 인간은 이 거대한 유기체의 구성원으로서 상호 의존하여 생존할 수밖에 없음을 깨달았으며 이러한 자연의 질서를 탐구하고 이를 이해하며 표현하는 것이 현대를 살아가는 미술가로서 또 다른 삶에 관한 태도를 제시 할 수 있으리라는 믿음 을 갖게 되었다. 또한 박음질의 다양한 표현은 박음질의 조형적 특징과 현대미술에 있어 오브제가 가지는 의미에 대해 더욱 관심을 가지는 계기가 되었다. 본 연구는 앞으로도 재료의 계속적인 연구와 자연의 탐구로 본인의 작품세계를 더욱 심화 발전 시켜 나가고자 한다.;The natural all living subjects are changing.
