F. Couperin과 O. Messiaen의 오르간 작품에 대한 소고

Abstract

본 논문은 필자의 석사과정 이수를 위한 졸업연주회(1989년 5월 23일)의 연주 곡목중에서 프랑스 오르간 음악의 작곡가인 F. Couperin (1668~1733)과 O. Messiaen(1908~ )의 작품을 연구하였다. 각각 바로크시기와 20세기에 활동했던 두 작곡가의 음악적 배경을 살펴보고 그들의 오르간작품의 형식·화성·리듬등을 연구·분석하여 곡에 대한 올바른 해석과 이해를 도모하고 연주에 도움을 얻고자 하는 데 그 목적을 두었다. F. Couperin은 프랑스 바로크 오르간 음악의 정점에 위치한 작곡가로서 오르간 작품집 Pie´ces d'Orgue에 수록된 두 곡의 미사를 통하여 그 당시의 정통적인 오르간 미사와 음색배합에 대한 특징을 잘 보여주고 있다. O. Messiaen은 20세기의 탁월한 작곡가로서 어느 악파에도 속하지 않는 독특하고 개성있는 기법을 사용하고 있다. 9곡으로 된 La Nativite´ du Seigneur에서 기독교인의 신앙과 새소리와 인도 리듬, 그리고 C. Debussy의 영향을 받은 음악적 특징이 나타나 있다. 본 논문에서 살펴본 2곡은 각 작곡가들의 음악적 특징을 잘 보여 주는 곡들로 그들의 오르간 음악, 더 나아가 프랑스 오르간 음악을 이해하는 데 크게 기여하리라고 생각한다.;This thesis is based on the study of two organ pieces of two prominent composers, F. Couperin and O. Messian, in the French organ music performed at the writer's graduate recital (May 23, 1989) as a partial fulfillment for the degree of Master of Music. The purpose of this thesis lies not only in improving interpretation and understanding in the above pieces but also in giving some help for performance through analyzing the style, harmony, rhythm etc. of their pieces and reviewing the musical backgrounds of these two composers who played their roles at different historical stages. F. Couperin, the composer standing at the zenith of the French baroque organ music, has shown very well the characteristics of the orthodox organ mass and tone-combination in his time by way of two masses included in his organ collection <Pie´ces d'Orgue>. O. Messian, an outstanding composer in the twentieth century, has made use of a unique technique of his own not belonging to any established musical school. Christian belief, bird song, Hindu rhythm and some musical qualities influenced by C. Debussy are portrayed in his <La Nativite´ du Seigneur> consisting of nine pieces. The musical characteristics of these two composers are well shown in above mentioned two pieces. It is, therefore, hoped that this thesis will contribute to improve understanding of each composer's organ music and indeed all organ music.
