중학생과 그들 부모의 가치관 비교 연구

Abstract

중학생이라는 시기는 발달 단계상 아동기에서 청년기로 접어드는 시기로서 교우관계가 확대되고 자아의식이 싹틈으로 인해서, 부모에게 순종하고 부모의 가치관을 그대로 받아들였던 아동기와는 달리 부모와 다른 생각을 갖게 되고 가정으로부터 점차 이탈하려는 경향을 보이기 시작한다. 부모세대와 가치관 차이로 인해 대화가 단절되기 쉽고, 그들 자신의 신상에 어려운 문제가 생겼을 때 부모나 교사와 상의하기 보다는 혼자 해결하려 하며, 또는 아직 가치판단 능력이 부족한 그들의 동료와 상의하여 여러 가지 문제를 일으키기도 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 과연 중학생과 학부모 사이에는 가치의식에 있어서 어떤 차이가 있으며, 또 어느 정도 있는지를 알아보는 데 있다. 이러한 목적하에 서울시내 중학교 5개교를 선정하여 학생 450명, 학부모 370명을 대상으로 M. Rokeach의 질문지로 가치관 조사를 하였다. 수집된 자료는 7단계 평정척에 의해 각 문항별로 총점을 계산하고 변인별, 집단간 평균:표준편차를 산출하여 점수차를 비교하였으며 각 변인별로 T검증, F검증을 통해 5% 수준에서 통계적으로 유의한가를 알아보았다. 그 결과 학생, 학부모 사이에는 상당한 가치관 차이가 있음이 드러났다. 18개의 궁극적 가치문항 중에서 9개 문항(50%), 18개의 수단적 가치 문항중에서 7개 문항(38.8%)에 5% 수준에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다. 학생들은 「순수한우정」, 「만민평등」, 「자유」, 「과업의 성취」, 「슬기로운 삶」, 「명랑한」, 「남을 잘 돕는」 항목 등에서 부모들 보다 높은 가치를 두었고 부모들은 「물질적으로 여유있는 생활」, 「건강한 상태가 지속되는 장수」, 「정신, 육체적으로 성숙된 사랑」, 「야망있는」, 「성실한」, 「예의바른」, 「책임감있는」 문항 등에서 학생들보다 더 가치를 부여하고 있었다. 학생들은 종 더 자주적이고 독립적이며, 남을 도우면서 명랑하게 살기를 원하며, 순수한 우정을 특히 중요시하는 반면, 부모들은 성실하고 예의바르며 자제력 있는 생활태도를 더 중시하며, 물질적으로 여유있고 건강하게 장수하는 생활을 특히 더 원하고 있었다. 이러한 차이는 가정에서 부모-자녀간의 의견충돌의 한 원인이 될 수도 있는데 이 때 부모가 일방적으로 자신의 가치관을 학생들에게 강요한다면 가정에서의 대화는 더욱 단절될 것이다. 오히려 서로의 가치관 차이를 인정하고 보다 바람직한 가치관을 갖도록 끊임없는 대화와 설득의 과정이 필요할 것이다.;The purpose of this study is to identify the value orientation of middle school students and their parents, and to compare two groups' value orientation. The theoretical background of value orientation was obtained through the investigation of literatures and the direction of this study was set by the preceded studies. The 450 students and their 370 parents were selected for sampling from the five middle schools in Seoul city. The using questionnaire was Rokeach's value scale, which contained the 18 items of terminal value and the 18 items of instrumental value and each item composed 7 Likert scale. Each mean of 36 items was calculated and the differences of variables were testified by T-test, F-test. And the T-test levels of statistical significance was set at 5 percent. Results of study were as follows a. In comparison of the value orientation of students and parents 16 items among 36 differed the parents from students at the 5% level of significance. The parents considered the 8 items more important than the students. They were comfortable Life, Long Life, Mature Love, Ambition, Honesty, Politeness, Responsibility, Self-control. The students considered the 8 items more important than parents. They were Sense of Accomplishment, Equality, Freedom, Authority, True Friendship, Wisdom, Cheerness, Help. b. The students agreed with the same sex parent more than the other in many items. It turned out more item that girl students than boys in differences of value orientation between students and parents. c. Value orientation differences between male and female revealed just 6-8 items in 36. The contents of these items showed that male gave much more a weight to Sense of Accomplishment, Mature Love, Courage, on the other hand female gave Affection, Cleanliness, Politeness, Family Security, Spiritual Salvation
