중학생 맞춤법 표기 실태에 관한 연구

Abstract

말과 민족과의 관계를 생각해 볼 때, 통일된 체계의 국어를 확립하고 습득하는 것은 무엇보다도 중요한 일이라고 본다. 현행 맞춤법은 1933년 조선어학회에서 제정·공표한 "한글 맞춤법 통일안"에 기초를 둔 것인데, 40여 년간 써 오는 동안 여러 가지 문제점이 있어 개정 작업에 들어갔으며, 현재 이 개정 작업은 마무리 단계인 것으로 안다. 이러한 시점에 있어서, 이 연구는 현재 중학교 학생들의 맞춤법 표기 실태를 조사 분석하여 맞춤법 개정의 바람직한 방향을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 이 목적을 수행하기 위하여 현행 맞춤법 중 문제성 있는 것을 선정, 설문지로 작성하여 서울 시내 소재 8개 중학교의 3학년 학생 531명을 대상으로 그 표기 실태를 조사 분석하였다. 실태 조사를 분석한 결과 그 동안 논의의 대상이 되어 왔던 것이 현장에서도 역시 혼동을 빚고 있었으며, 통일안에 뚜렷한 규정이 없었던 것과 현실 발음을 외면한 표기법안의 규정에서 높은 오기율을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 현행 맞춤법의 개정이 불가피하다는 것과, 현실 발음을 외면한 표기법 규정은 일반 대중 속에 정착될 수 없음을 보여준다. 그러나 한꺼번에 너무 많이 개정하면 국민의 문자 생활에 큰 혼란을 초래할 것이므로 현행 표기법에 익숙해진 것은 그대로 두어야 할 것이다. 실제 조사를 통한 맞춤법 표기 실태에 근거해서 맞춤법안이 마련되어야만 일반 대중이 쓰고 읽는 데 불편과 어려움이 없을 것이다. 이 연구의 자료가 이러한 맞춤법안의 마련에 도움이 될 것이라고 믿는다.;In view of the relation between a people and its language, it is believed to be one of the most important things for us to establish and acquire our unified and systematic language. The current Korean spelling system is based on the Rules of Spelling of Korean Language legislated by the Institute of Korean Language in 1933. But for the past of about 40 years quite a few problems of the Rules have been seen. In this connection, it is thought that the revision of the Rules which has been required will be finished in the near future. In these circumstances, this study is made for the purpose of helping the revision be accomplished desirably through the investigation and analysis of the actual positions of the current spelling system application to the real language life among the middle school students. For this investigation, 531 students in the 3rd year of the middle schools in Seoul were requested to answer several questions which are related to the problems of the rules of spelling system. According to the results of the investigation, the disputable problems for an academic discussion proves to be confusing in the real language life and the wrong-writing rate to be high under the current spelling system. These results show that the revision of the rules is inevitable because the rules which do not take into account the actual pronunciation cannot be established among the people. If, however, a greater part is revised at a time, it will cause the big confusion in the language life. That is, some parts of the rules which people are accustomed to should remains unchanged. A new spelling system provided on the basis of the prevalent usage surveyed actually will enable people to avail themselves of their own language with ease. The contents of this study are believed to be of use for the provision of such a reasonable spelling system of our Korean language.
