시청각 교재활용을 통한 효율적인 영어학습

Abstract

언어란 인간과 인간사이의 Communication을 위해 존재하며 그 말을 사용하는 사람들과 고 말이 존재하게 된 상황에 의해서 통제된다. 말을 하는 사람의 사회적 지위나 직업, 성별, 나이 또 말을 하는 사람과 듣는 사람의 관계 등에 의해 그 언어의 표현 형식이 선택되는 것이다. 그러므로 한 나라의 말에는 그 나라의 문화와 규범과 윤리적 기준이 함께 용해되어 있다. 즉, 언어란 그 자체로써 홀로 존재하는 것이 아니라 사람과 상황과 사회의 문화 속에서 그때마다 바른 의미를 갖고 존재하는 것이다. 따라서 우리가 외국어를 습득하고 그 사람들과 Communication하려고 한다면 단순히 언어의 구조나 문법체계만 학습할 것이 아니라 그 문화에 대해서 알아야 하고 또한 언어에 포함되어 있는 사회, 문화적 요소에 대해서도 알아야 할 것이다. 이것에 대한 이론적 근거로써 언어사회적 배경으로 언어와 사회문화와의 관계와 함께 언어의 사회적 요인들로 연해 표현이 달라지는 점 등을 살펴보고 상황에 대한 확실한 이해를 위해 비언어 전달 수단에 대해 서 알아보았다. 결국 이러한 학습을 위해서는 그 말이 쓰여지는 생생한 상황과 문장을 함께 제시할 수 있는 시청각교육이야말로 그 문장이 살아있는 말로 배울 수 있게 해 주는 방법인 것이다. 따라서 시청각교육의 배경에 대한 이론적 고찰과 함께 그것을 어떻게 영어학습에 연결시킬 것인가에 대해 알아보기 위해 TV와 Filmstrip에 대해서 살펴 보고 실제 학습현장에서 활용할 수 있는 방안을 검토하여 보았다. TV는 강력한 전파 매체로써 동적인 현장감과 생생한 인상을 줌으로서 학습자들에게 강하게 어필할 수 있고 Filmstrip은 제시시간과 제시방법을 임의로 조절할 수 있다는 장점이 있어 유효적절히 사용된다면 문장이 어떤 상황에서 어떻게 쓰여져야 하는 실제 상황에서의 Communication을 위한 훌륭한 학습이 될 수 있을 것이다 그예로써 실제 현장 교수학습에서 활용할 수 있는 영어학습 방법의 한 예를 제시해 보았으나 다만 하나의 예에 지나지 않고 그밖의 다른 형태로 많은 수업 방안이 있을 것이다. 어떠한 형태가 교사 자신이 처한 교수현장에서 가장 적절하고 효과적인 학습 효과를 거둘 것인가는 교사 자신이 스스로 찾아야 할 것이다.;The Habit-formation theory puts emphasis on habit formation through pattern practice and mimicry-memorization for foreign language learning. It is certain that students can learn the formal meaning of words, phrases, sentences and expression through this method; however, this doesn't mean that they can wholly understand the meaning of the words, phrases, sentences and expressions. An utterance occurs in a situation. The situation gives meaning to the utterance, that is, the situation controls the utterance. People use the restricted words according to their background, age, social position and relationship with speakers, which brings language varieties such as register, dialect, style nd mode of discourse. They are the sociocultural elements in language. The meaning of an utterance depends on the situation it happens in. The meaning of the same linguistic forms may be changed in different situations to introduce this situational meaning into foreign language teaching is indispensable to improve the learner's communicative competence. Audio-visual aids may provide us with the actual situation in addition to interest and stimulus. They enable the learner to grasp the meaning of utterance in a vivid scene, and lead them to the appropriate use in appropriate situations, in other words, to a more qualified communication with native speakers. TV and filmstrips are good examples of the effective use of audio-visual aids in foreign language teaching and learning. They show the possibilities of improving the communicative competence by combining the linguistic forms and situational meaning. In conclusion, the cultural lag between countries plays a very important role in learning foreign languages, so that teachers should try to introduce these sociocultural elements into classroom with the help of audio-visual aids for not only verbal communication but nonverbal communication.
