우리나라 창살의 공간적 구성

Abstract

염색 공예가 오늘날에 와서는 그 연구 범위와 방향이 확대되어 공예의 기능성보다는 조형성을 추구하는 작품들로 증가하고 있다. 또한, 새로운 재료와 표현 기법의 개발로 독특한 작품 세계를 형성하여, 미술의 한 분야로서 그 가치가 인정되고 있다. 그러나, 천이 가지고 있는 본래의 의미가 공예임을 생각할 때, 실용적 가능성을 위한 연구도 계속되어야 할 것이다. 본 연구에서는 이를 염두에 두고, 우리나라 전통적인 건축 양식에 나타나고 있는 창살과, 창을 통해 보이는 자연의 조화를 소재로 설정하였다. 이를 바탕으로 우리의 전통 문화 속에 깃든 의식구조가 조형 작품에 어떻게 표현이 가능한가를 시도해 보는 것이 본 연구의 목적이라 할 수 있다. 따라서, 연구자는 '우리나라 창살의 공간적 구성'을 주제로 설정하여 이론적 배경으로는 창살의 의의, 형태별 분류, 창살에 나타난 조형미등에 대한 이론적 연구를 하여, 작품에 나타나는 창살과 자연의 이미지의 형태를 형성하였다. 이와같은 창살과 자연의 조화에서 나타나는 이미지를 형상화하여, 작품 제작을 통하여 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 전통적 소재인 창살은 우리의 전통 문화 속에서 발견할 수 있는 형태와 구조로서, 무한한 가능성을 가지고 조형 행위의 대상이 될 수 있었다. 2. 자연의 이미지는 호염의 기법을 사용하여, 감각을 시각적으로 나타내기에 매우 적절하였으며, 창살과 자연의 조화로운 일치를 표현하기에 적절한 기법이었다. 3. 본 작품에서 창살의 표현요소로 빛과 그림자가 선택되었고, 그것을 화면에 도입하므로써, 공간감을 나타내는데 좋은 효과를 얻을 수 있었다. 4. 섬유의 종류를 다양하게 사용하여 그 곳에서 보여지는 기법상의 차이점을 알 수 있어서, 앞으로의 작품 활동에 많은 도움이 되었다. 이와같이 다양한 재료와 기법등의 활용으로 새로운 작품 제작의 가능성을 보여 주었지만, 다음과 같은 문제점이 있었다. 1. 면섬유에 사용한 반응성 염료는 사용하기에 번거로움이 많았다. 2. 호염 기법을 사용하는데 있어, 천의 중량과 종류, 그리고 호의 종류에 따른 풀의 농도 조절에 대한 정확한 통계 자료가 없으므로 사용하기에 어려운 점이 있었다. 이와같은 염색은 염색 재료와 기법의 개발로 좀 더 다양한 표현이 가능하리라 본다. 그리고, 이러한 조형 작품의 제작과 분석을 통하여 우리 민족이 지닌 전통적 조형 양식의 본질적인 형태 파악에 접근할 수 있고, 이를 기반으로 하여, 우리의 다양한 문화 표현 양식속에 깃든 멋과 정서를 표출해 내서 조형화시키는 작업이 계속 진행되기를 바라는 마음이다.;While industrial art dyeing has recently expanded its range of research and multified it methods, it tends to pursue formative beauty rather than function. Furthermore, studies on new materials and the development of techniques for expression allow industrial art dyeing to achieve its own unique expression and so industrial art dyeing can be regarded as a special field of the arts. However, research in the practical use of cloth materials is also needed if the original function of cloth is to be considered from an industrial point of view. By studing 'Spatial Composition of Korean Lattice Strips', the Korean sensitivity which are revealed in lattice strips can be perceived. In this dissertation an attempt will be made to reveal the Korean sensitivities which lie in traditional lattice strips when they are used in cloth materials a motifs of the formative arts. The classification of lattice strips and their formative beauty will be examined in order discover how lattice strips and nature are converted into the motifs of formative arts. The results of the attempt to give a visual express of the harmony between lattice strips and nature are as follows. 1. Lattice strips can be used as form and composition, which adhere to traditional Korean expression of formative beauty 2. By the technique of paste dyeing, the image of nature as well as harmony between lattice strips and nature can be effectively expressed. 3. The spatial sense of lattice strips can be effectively expressed particularly by light and shadow which are chosen to give visual expression to the image of lattice strips. 4. Various kinds of cloth materials require different techniques, Creative works can be produced by various materials and the new techniques mentioned above, but there are some problems: 1) It is not easy to dye cotton with reactive dye. 2) The technique of paste dyeing needs statistical data which shows the relationship of kinds and weight of the cloth materials in relation to the concentration of paste, but such data is not available. 'Spatial Composition of Korean Lattice Strips' enables as to approach to traditional expressions of beauty Beside lattice strips, an effort must be made to depict beauty and emotion which lie in traditional architecture.
