부조적 형태와 공간에 관한 연구

Abstract

It is the characteristic of modern fiber art s that all the elements of paintings, sculptures, and craft arts are closely combined in its expression. Thus, fiber arts which have the infinite possibility of formation is newly recognized and emerged as a new kind of spatial art. In this research, I considered that fiber is three-dementional which has lines and directions in itself and examined the relation of relief form and the space by studying the production process of relief form in fiber art on the basis of the Eastern and Western background of the theories about the form and the space. In making art works, I pursued the essential form of forests which reminds of the nature and living through the work "Forests in the Space" and expressed it in the relief form. During this research, I felt the importance of the attitude in which we appreciate works with open mind according to the tendency to make fiber arts a part of our lives. Also, I recognized that in relief the formation and the form are the most important thins. And finally for the development of fiber arts I think that materials should be developed, lights be introduced as an object for the change of the form, and common workshop be set up according to the tendency of large works in modern spatial arts.;현대 섬유예술의 특징은 표현 기술적인 면에서 회화나 조소, 공예의 요소가 강하게 복합되어 있다. 이에 따라 무한한 조형행위의 가능성을 지닌 섬유예술의 인식과 호응이 팽배되어 새로운 공간예술로서 부상되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 섬유를 구성하는 직조 조직의 기본이 되는 실(絲)이라는 매체가 그 자체만으로도 선과 방향을 갖는 입체물이라는 점에 착안하여, 형태와 공간에 관해 연구하였다. 또한 이를 바탕으로 섬유 예술의 부조적(浮彫的) 형태의 발생 과정과 동일 계열의 작가 연구를 통해 부조적 형태에 의한 공간을 연구하였다. 작품제작에 있어서는 단순하게 변형시킨 "공간의 숲" 연작을 통해 숲-자연-삶으로 이어지는 숲의 본질적 형상을 추구하고 부조형태로 표현하였다. 본인은 연구과정을 통해 Tapestry라는 영역의 제한에 구애됨이 없이 작품을 제작할 수 있는 태도의 중요성을 느꼈다. 이러한 자세는 다른 공간 예술 분야의 전공자와 함께, 예술품이 수용되는 넓은 건축 공간의 경직된 느낌을 융화하기 위해 부드러운 매체에 의한 대형 입체물을 제작하는데 큰 도움을 주고 있다. 이에 따라 섬유 예술에 있어서 대형 작품의 효율적 제작방법으로서 공동 작업에 의한 공방형식의 도입은 선결되어야 할 문제점으로 보고 이 분야의 발전을 기대해 본다. 한편 입체물의 부조 작업에 있어서는 조형성과 공간성이 생명임을 깨닫고 공간조형을 위한 매체의 발전과 형태의 변형에 커다란 변화를 줄 수 있는 오브제로서 광선의 도입에 대한 연구를 계속해야 하겠다.
