Aaron Copland의 Piano Sonata에 대한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 20세기 미국의 대표적인 작곡가중 한 사람인 Aaron Copland(1900-)의 음악적인 특징을 살펴보고 그의 Piano Sonata(1941)를 분석함으로써 Copland피아노 음악의 일면을 고찰한 것이다. 먼저 현대 미국의 음악에서 Copland의 위치를 알아본 다음 그의 전 생애를 통한 음악발전의 과정과 특성들, 그리고 여러 분야의 작품들중에서 특히 피아노 음악을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 그의 음악은 재즈(Jazz)와 민속적인 요소, 신고전 주의(Neo-Classicism), 그리고 대중적인 실용음악(functional music)과 음열음악(serial music)에 이르기까지 다양한 양식을 지니고 있다. Piano Sonata의 분석을 통하여 살펴본 결과는 다음과 같다. 이 곡은 전 3악장으로 이루어져 있으며 1악장은 Sonata Allegro형식, 2악장은 Rondo형식 그리고 3악장은 비교적 자유로운 3부형식으로 되어있다. 전 악장의 빠르기 분포를 살펴보면 Molto moderato-Vivace-Andante sostenuto로 되어있는데 이러한 빠르기의 분포는 중간에 느린 템포의 악장을 두고 처음과 마지막에는 빠른 템포의 악장을 가지고 있는 일반적인 소나타와는 다른 빠르기 분포라고 하겠다. 주제적인 요소들은 단순하고 명료하며 1악장의 주제적 요소들이 2악장과 3악장에 응용됨으로써 전 악장은 상호유기적인 순환적 기능을 지니고 있다. 조성은, 항상 전통적인 조성방식에 의한 것은 아니지만 조성감을 유지하고 있으며 복조적 구성(polytonality)을 자주 사용하였고 7화음, 9화음, 11화음 그리고 4도 구성화음과 같은 근대적 화음들이 주종을 이룬다. 선율은 온음계(diatonic)를 기본으로 하여 5음음계나 온음음계적인 요소도 함께 사용되고 있다. 리듬은 당김음이나 변박자에 의한 불규칙적인 리듬 그리고 단순한 리듬과 복잡한 리듬의 대조등으로 매우 다양하게 나타나고 있으며 이러한 리듬은 곡 전체에 생동감을 더해 준다.;The aim of the study is to find out the main character of Aaron Copland's music, who is one of the representative composers of the twentieth century in America and also to analyze his Piano Sonata, In the first place, the study was concentrated to Copland's position as a composer in the present day American music and searching for the process and main traits of his growth in composition , especially in the field of his piano music. His musical tendency moved from Jazz, folksy elements to Neo-Classicism, functional and serial music. The conclusion t o which this study reached is as follows: This Sonata is composed by three movements. 1st movement is Sonata-allegro form, the 2nd is Rondo form and the 3rd is composed of three-part form, The tempo of a7 1 the movements is Volto moderato-Vivace-Andante sostenuto. this tempo distribution is different from general form of sonata. The thematic elements are simple and clear. subjective elements of 1st movement are applied to 2nd and 3rd movement. thus three movements have mutual-organic cyclic system. His music preserves the sense of tonality, though not always by traditional means. harmony, such as 7th chord, 9th chord, 11th chord and 4th chord. Melody is based on diatonic and often used pentatonic scale and whole tone scale. Rhythm has much rhythmic variety and vitality though syncopation, changing meters and simple rhythms contrasted to complexrhythms.
