돌과 물의 상징성 연구를 통한 무의식의 분석

Abstract

본 논문에서는 본인 작품에 나타난 돌과 물의 상징성에 대해서 연구하였다. 돌과 물은 대개 긍정적인 상징성을 지니는데, 돌은 견고함, 영원성, 초월성의 상징적 의미를 가지고 있었다. 돌은 한민족의 문화에서 생활 깊숙이 침투해 있어, 신화와 굿, 서낭당 등에서 그 상징성을 쉽게 접할 수 있었다. 또한 돌은 여러 나라의 신화 속에서도 유사한 맥락으로 그 상징적 의미를 찾아볼 수 있었다. 물의 상징성 역시 공통된 상징성을 지니고 있었다. 대부분의 창조 신화에서 물을 생명의 원천으로 표현하고 있었으며, 종교에서는 물이 지닌 정화력을 바탕으로 한 여러 가지 설화를 발견할 수 있어, 물에 대한 보편적인 정서를 확인 할 수 있었다. 돌과 물은 본인 작품에서 긍정적인 의미를 가지고 나타났다. 돌을 상상의 공간, 즉 생명력과 정화력의 원천이 되는 물의 공간에 띄우는 것은 나의 작품의 일관된 주제였다. 무의식이라는 상상력의 원천에서 비롯된, 견고하고 무거운 돌을 무중력의 물의 공간에 띄우는 것은 불가능해 보이는 것을 가능하게 하고 싶다는 작가의 소망이 담긴 것이었다. 이와 같이 돌 안에 꿈과 희망의 메시지를 투사시키는 양상은 인류에게 보편적으로 나타나는 것이었다. 때문에 우리나라의 문화에서 뿐 만 아니라 세계적으로 돌과 물에 대한 유사한 상징성을 찾을 수 있었다. 돌과 물의 상징성에 대해 연구하여 보편적인 상징성을 찾을 수 있었다면, 작품 분석에서는 작가 개인의 심리적 변화의 추이를 스스로 분석하여, 작품의 원천이 되는 무의식과 꿈에 대하여 서술하였다. 나 에 대한 탐구가 인간 에 대한 탐구의 시작이라는 전제 하에, 자신의 무의식 을 스스로 분석해보고자 하였고, 돌을 띄운다 라는 주제를 가지고 작품하기까지의 과정을 서술하였다. 궁극적으로 그림을 통하여 나타내려고 하는 작가의 메시지는 꿈과 희망에 대한 솔직한 감성의 표현이며, 이를 통한 상처의 치유이다. 본인은 인류가 공통적으로 지니는 상징성을 통하여 작가와 관람자 사이의 대화가 가능하다는 희망을 가지고, 관람자들이 현실을 떠나 잠시라도 자기만의 이상향의 세계를 열어 휴식할 수 있게 하고 싶다. ; In this thesis I investigated the symbolic representation of stones and water which are featured in my works. The figure of stones which continuously appears on the screen symbolizes robustness, eternity and transcendence. To float these stones into a imaginary space -the water space which is the origin and source of life force and power of purification- is the consistent motive of my works. The symbolic representation of stones has deeply penetrated into Korean s everyday life as a form of culture. Also, it can be found in the mythology of other countries in similar context. A metaphor of stone and water is immortal theme of eastern philosophy and aesthetics. Symbolic representation of water also shares it s meaning world widely. In most of creation myths, water was described as origin of life and in religious books we can find various tales based on the power of purification water possesses. In work analysis part, personal psychologic variation of myself has been analyzed so that unconsciousness and dream which form fundamental of works has been described as well as the process of creating works with a theme of "floating stones". Floating solid and heavy stones into an imaginary weightless space expresses the wish of artist to make things possible which looks impossible. I reflected my unconscious inside and expressed my heart s desires on the screen just as mankind projected their dearest wishes into stones. In this thesis, I focused that symbolic representation of stones and water in my works had universality as well as subjectiveness. Ultimately, the artist wants to deliver the message throughout her works that candid emotional expression of dream and hope can heal the emotional wound in the people s mind. I want my galleries to take a short trip away from real world into their own ideal world where they can find rest.
