대학 언어실습실의 시설 및 운영에 관한 실태조사

Abstract

Due to the rapid development of technology in communication, we are now in a small world and have more opportunities to have contacts people allover the world. Knowledge on foreign language is more needed to help international contacts and the role of language laboratories is more emphasized to learn foreign language more effectively. This thesis attempts to analyze the current status of language laboratories at advanced educational institutions in Seoul and make some proposals for the better use of language iaboratories for educational purposes. To survey the current status of language laboratories, personal interviews was conducted with a prepared questionaire. The questionaire concerns all the aspects of operating language laboratories, including items on programs, service, materials and equipment, facilities and budget. The problems o f current operation of language laboratories raised in the survey are as follows: 1. The lack of independence in the operation of language laboratories. 2. The lack of definition on responsibilities and role of laboratory staff. 3. The inconsistent utilization and operation of the language laboratory class. 4. Ineffectual timeworn facilities and their low level of functioning. 5. A failure to improve and update existing materials. 6. No standard for the procurement of materials and equipment. 7. The lack of staff's participation in the language laboratory curriculum. 8. A poor environment around language laboratory. To resolve such problems and manage language laboratories more effectively, the follings are proposed: 1. Administractive changes to creat an independent language laboratory operation. 2. Establishments of guidelines for the operation of language laboratory. 3. Proper training of staff. 4. Design of proper operational system with full use of broadcasting and library facilities. 5. The enlargement and improvement of existing facilities on a planned basis. 6. Gidelines for materials and equipment standards. 7. Active participation of staff in the operation of the langage laboratory program. 8. Improvement of existing environment for better Learning. 9. Development of an active system for the development and production of materials on foreign language.;오늘날 공학의 발달로 급격한 사회적 변화와 인구의 증가 및 그에 따르는 교육인구의 증가는 보다 많은 교육방법의 개선이 요구되고 있다. 따라서 당면한 교육문제를 해결하는 방법으로써 학생들에게 효율적인 학습을 제공하고 학습자들의 동기를 유발하여 학습흥미를 줄 수 있는 교수매체가 적용되어야 한다. 급격한 통신방법의 발달로 세계가 협소화되어 국제간의 접촉이 친밀하게 되었고, 우리나라에서도 국제시대의 물결을 따라 외국어를 구사하는 능력이 절실하게 요구되어 그 해결 방안의 하나로써 언어실습실을 활용하게 되었다. 즉 국제간의 긴밀한 접촉에 따라 외국어의 구사능력을 요청하고 있는 현 상황에서 언어실습실은 외국어 교육방법의 개선을 위해서 최대한으로 기능을 발휘하여야 하고, 운영의 활성화를 위해서는 자질있는 실습실의 요원 및 기술진과 그에 필요한 자료 및 시설을 확보해야만 한다. 본 연구에서는 언어실습실의 정의 및 특성, 기능 및 운영형태 그리고 요원 및 그들의 임무, 구조 및 시설에 관한 국내외의 관련된 이론 및 전문지와 연구논문을 고찰해보고 서울시내에 대학교 언어실습실의 실태를 조사 연구하고자 한다. 언어실습실의 실태조사를 위해서는 실습실 담당자와 면담을 통한 질문지 조사를 하였다. 질문지 내용으로, 서울에 소재하고 있는 대학 및 대학교의 언어실습실에 관한 일반적인 사항, 프로그램, 요원, 써비스 및 기교재와 시설 및 예산을 조사한 후, 그 결과 나타난 여러가지 문제점과 그에 따른 바람직한 해결방안을 제시하고자 한다. 조사결과 제기된 문제점을 살펴 보면 다음과 같다. 1. 독립적인 언어실습실 체제로서 운영되고 있지 않다. 2. 언어실습 담당요원의 임무와 역할에 관한 명확한 구분이 결여되어 있다. 3. 언어실습실 수업의 운영체제와 활용이 조화되지 않고 있다. 4. 시설의 낙후로 인하여 언어실습실의 기능이 비효율적이고 비능률적이다. 5. 외국어교육을 위한 현존 교재 개발이 저조하다. 6. 교재 및 교구 선택의 기준이 결여되어 있다. 7. 언어실습실 교과과정과 프로그램운영에 요원 참여가 미비하다. 8. 언어실습실의 환경적 설비가 부족하다. 이와같은 문제점을 해결하고 보다 효율적인 언어실습실의 운영을 위하여 다음과 같이 제언하고자 한다. 1. 독립적인 언어실습실로서 운영할 수 있도록 행정적 개선조치가 마련되어야 한다. 2. 언어실습실의 운영에 관한 지침이 설정되고, 그에 따른 요원의 훈련도 마련되어야 한다. 3. 방송식 운영과 도서관식 운영체제의 설비를 효율적으로 사용할 수 있도록 적절한 운영체제가 고안되어야 한다. 4. 언어실습실 시설의 확충과 적절한 시기에 설비교체가 이루어져야 한다. 5. 외국어교육을 위한 언어실습실용 자료를 제작·개발하여 보급할 수 있는 능동적인 체제가 요구되고 있다. 6. 교재 및 교구 선택을 위한 기준이 시급하다. 7. 요원은 언어실습실 프로그램 운영에 참여되어야 한다. 8. 보다 나은 학습을 위하여 현존의 환경적 설비가 개선되어야 한다.
