사물을 통한 인간 욕망의 표현

Abstract

인간은 결코 채울 수 없는 욕망을 끊임없이 추구하며 살아간다. 이러한 욕망의 추구는 삶의 원동력으로 작용하기 때문에 욕망의 진정한 의미는 긍정적이고 필연적이다. 그러나 물질화된 현대 사회에서의 욕망은 물질화되어 왜곡되어진다. 이러한 현상은 우리 주변에 만연하여 인식되지 못하거나 인식하더라도 물질에 대한 욕구는 물리치기 어렵다. 우리의 일상에 만연한 욕망의 왜곡을 자각하기 위해서는 인간 내면에 내재된 욕망의 실체를 인식하는 일이 선행되어야 할 것이다. 본 연구는 일상의 사물을 신체 이미지로 변화시켜 인간욕망을 은유하여 형상화 하였고 이를 통해 인간 속 내재된 욕망을 시각적으로 표현하는데 목적이 있다. 이론적 배경에서는 욕망의 왜곡된 흐름에 대해 기술하고, 욕망의 재인식을 위해 신체 이미지로 변화 시킨 사물에 대한 이해를 돕고자 사물의 고정된 인식에 변화를 도모한 작가와 작품을 알아보았다. 그리고 일상적 욕망의 재인식을 위해 사용한 신체 이미지에 대해서도 살펴보았다. 표현 내용에서는 신체 이미지로 변화된 사물을 통해 우리 주위에 만연한 물질화되고 왜곡되어진 욕망의 실체를 자각할 수 있음을 작품 전개 내용으로 밝혔다. 표현 방법에서는 사물을 신체 이미지로 변화시키기 위한 방법적인 내용과 재료와 방법에서 오는 심리적인 효과를 분석하였다. 작품 분석에서는 7점을 대상으로 이론적인 배경과 표현 내용 및 방법에 근거하여 분석하였다. 본 연구에서는 사물을 통한 인간욕망의 은유를 위해 인간에 의해 필요나 욕구가 다해 버려지거나 방치되어 인간의 관심 밖의 대상이 된 사물들을 선택하여 인간 신체 이미지로 변화시켰다. 이러한 사물들은 대량생산 된 후 개인에 의해 사용되었다가 버려지거나 방치된 것들로써 인간에 의한 오랜 세월의 흔적과 자취가 담겨져 있다. 그 중 인간의 신체와 접촉하여 쓰여 졌던 옷, 장갑, 신발, 팬티, 의자, 빗, 모자, 반지와 같은 사물들을 선택하여 그 속에 내재된 인간 신체에 대한 기억을 꺼내어 불완전한 신체 이미지로 변화시켰다. 신체 이미지로 변화된 사물은 뜨개실이나, 바느질을 통한 덧붙이기, 머리카락 심기, 라텍스액의 반복적인 덧바름 같은 제작 방식으로 인해 무한한 욕망의 은유가 된다. 동시에 사물들이 지닌 흠집과 상처, 신체 이미지로 변화를 위해 사용한 표현 재료들에서 보이는 표면 위 주름이나 기포, 수공의 느낌은 작품에 일종의 표정을 부여하여, 보는 이로 하여금 연민의 감정을 투사하게 하는 양면성을 띠게 되었다. 또한, 변화된 사물들은 왜곡되거나 불완전한 신체 형상으로 인해 관람자의 촉각적, 시각적 감각의 자극을 일으키는 존재가 된다. 관심 밖의 대상이었던 사물들이 존재성을 드러내며 인식의 대상이 되는 순간 인간 내면에 존재하는 욕망도 의식의 표면으로 드러나는 것이다. 본 연구는 인간의 욕망으로 은유된 사물을 통해 현대인의 욕망의 실체를 지각하게 함으로써 욕망의 긍정적인 면을 생각하게 하고 이를 통해 삶의 새로운 단면을 찾아보는 기회를 갖게 한다.;We human beings live our life, pursuing our desires which would never be fulfilled. Since such a pursuit of desire may act to energize our life, the desire may well be positive and inevitable at once. In our modern society dictated by materialism, however, the desires can also be materialistic and distorted. Such a phenomenon is too prevalent around us to be recognized, and even if it should be recognized, the desire of materials would not well be abandoned. So, in order to be aware of the distorted desires ubiquitous in our everyday life, we need to be aware of the real desires immanent inside us. The purpose of this study was to vary the ordinary objects into body images to form our desires metaphorically and therethrough, visualize the desires immanent inside us. For this purpose, the researcher described the distorted desires, and reviewed those artists (as well as their works) who have endeavored to vary the ordinary objects into body images to help us awakened of our desires, and thereupon, examined the body images used for better understanding of the desires. In particular, the researcher featured the objects changed into body images in an effort to help aware of the real desires materialized and distorted around us. In terms of expressions, the researcher analyzed the psychological effects of the methods and materials used to vary the objects into body images. For this study, 7 works were produced and thereby, their theoretical backgrounds, expressions and methods were analyzed. This study chosen the objects deserted or neglected as uninteresting because our needs for or desire of them were exhausted and thereupon, varied them into body images to metaphor our desires therethrough. They were once mass-produced to be used personally and then, deserted or abandoned, but they show the human traces and trails over time. Among them, the researcher selected clothes, gloves, footwear, pants, chairs, combs, caps and rings and thereby, changed them into some incomplete body images reminiscent of our human body. The objects changed into body images metaphor unlimited human desires, as they were added up by knitting threads, needle works, hair implanting or repeated latex liquid pasting. At the same time, in order to metaphor defects, scars or other body images, the materials were corrugated, foamed or processed in other ways to have sorts of expressions. As a result, they have come to have some dual aspects invoking a sense of pity. In addition, the varied objects serve to stimulate audience's tactile and visual senses due to their distorted or incomplete images. The objects overlooked will reveal their existences. As soon as they are perceived, the desired immanent inside us will rise up to the level of our consciousness. In conclusion, this study may be significant in that it helps our modern men to be aware of their real desires through the metaphoric objects and thereby, look at the positive aspects of desires and thus, have an opportunity to explore new aspects of their life.
