도심의 공공 공간으로서의 보행자 전용가로 모형사례연구

Abstract

자동차 위주의 도시구조와 경제 성장기의 극단적인 이윤 추구 및 산업위주 정책으로 인해, 도시 환경은 점점 더 보행자들에게 부적합하게 되어 버렸다. 도시라는 지역적 한계를 갖게 됨으로써 생기는 다양한 인간 형태의 밀집은 도시 환경이 수용할 수 있는 수용 한계를 초과하게 되었으며 이는 기존 질서의 혼란을 가져오며 인간 생활환경의 질을 크게 저하시키게 되었다. 이러한 인식에서 오는 인간성 부재의 도시구성은 사회적으로 인간 소외현상을 가속시키고 있다. 우리 나라의 경우 상업적, 업무적 기능을 갖는 도시 중심지역과 같은 도심지의 오픈 스페이스는 근접성과 사용 밀도에 있어 유리한 조건을 가지고 있으나 수적, 규모적 면에서 매우 부족하기 때문에 도심에서 보행자가 휴식을 얻기에 공간이 매우 부족한 실정이다. 근래에 들어 보행자들을 위한 공간의 필요성이 대두되었고, 이에 부응하는 여러 계획들이 시행되었지만, 그런 계획들이 모두 보행환경을 개선하지는 못하였다. 보행자를 위한다는 같은 의도로 행해졌다고 해도, 어떻게 계획하느냐가 중요한 문제이다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 우리의 실정에 맞고, 실제로 인간의 활동에 적합한 매력적이고 활기찬 보행자를 위한 공공 공간을 만들기 위해 필요한 요소들과 계 획방법을 찾고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해선 우선 예비적인 고찰단계로 현대 도시에서의 공공 공간 의 전형이 되는 보행자 공간 에 대해 살펴본다. 또한 도시 공간에서 공공 공간의 의미와 역할에 관해 알아보고, 공공 공간의 유형으로서의 보행자공간의 필요성과 역할에 대해서도 살펴본다. 본 연구는 장소성(sence of place)을 강화시키기 위한 과학적, 준 과학적(scientific, semi-scientific) 이론을 연구함으로서 환경에의 적용을 위한 디자인 방법론을 진행시킨다. 첫째, 도시환경 속에서의 가로의 개념과 의미에 대해서 고찰해보고, 보행의 의미와 서울의 보행자 가로의 문제점을 살펴본다. 둘째, 도시의 공공 공간으로서의 보행자가로 디자인의 이론적 틀을 제시하고 이를 연구의 대상지에 적용시켜 디자인 언어를 도출한다. 셋째, 도시의 상징성과 인지성, 보행자가로의 장소성의 관점에서 디자인의 타당성을 검토하고 연구의 결과가 서울의 보행환경의 개선 가능성을 갖는다는 것에 의의를 둔다. 연구자는 본 연구를 통해 가로환경 디자인을 하기 위해서는 자연 환경, 인문환경, 행태 분석, 시 지각 분석 등 철저한 환경 분석의 과정이 있어야 한다는 것을 이해하였다. 이러한 이해를 바탕으로 연구자는 모형 사례를 제시하여 우리의 삶과 질을 높이는 해결방안을 모색하는데 궁극적인 의의를 두고 이와 같은 방향이 보다 일반적으로 적용되기를 기대한다.; City environment has become very uncongenial for pedestrians, as it was focused on commuting easy while it was being designed. Also extreme pursuit of profits in a period of economic growth, made public space in city less important. Due to the peculiar problems which urban area contains, such as population that exceeds the capacity to the point where it brings chaos to the existing system, quality of life style has been deteriorated. In urban community, finding place for people to take a rest is hard, though public space in downtown area would have an advantage on its usage mainly due to the dense population and closeness. Lately many plans of making places considering pedestrian to meet the need of people for public space have been carried out as awareness of the necessity is emerging. But the outcome did not exactly meet the intention to make better environments for pedestrians in city. Not knowing the importance of building a design which needs many considerations taken in to let it function well. The result is only natural. Purpose of the study is to show the necessary elements and ways to build the public place that suits peoples need. First, observation will be made on aspace for pedestrian which is type of a public space in urban community, also its function and the necessity. Scientific and non-scientific theory will be studied to strengthen the sense of place thereby show the how to in terms of applying design to the environment. First, observe the meaning of sidewalk in urban area, and problems with it in Seoul. Second, give the theoretical blueprints on a pedestrian passage as a public space in urban area in urban area. Third, verify the design for adequacy in terms of being fit to the atmosphere of the city and know the result can be worthwhile in improving walking environment in Seoul. Through the studying, I realize designing pedestrian passage requires analyzing process of natural environment, cultural environment, and peoples characteristic of that area. Taking mentioned elements in consideration, I will present a model to seek a ways to facilitate our life style and hope to see more case of application.
