사찰 창살 문양을 응용한 직물디자인 연구

Abstract

오늘날 우리는 디자인 문화상품이 한 나라의 경제 성장에까지 영향을 끼치는 시대에 살고 있다. 디자인은 국제사회에서 자국의 문화적인 정체성과 독창성을 알릴 수 있으며 제품의 부가가치 창조에 중요한 역할을 한다. 그러므로 전통을 모르고는 새로운 디자인의 개발은 기대할 수 없으며 우리의 디자인 문화를 위해 전통문양을 깊이 있게 연구 분석하고 발전시켜 국제화시대에 맞는 디자인을 개발할 필요가 있다. 본 논문에서는 사찰창살 문양을 연구하여 그에 담겨있는 전통과 상징성을 되새겨보고 사찰창살 문양이 가지고있는 특징들을 응용하여 현대적인 해석을 통하여 한국적인 디자인을 연구하는데 목적이 있다. 이론적 배경으로는 연구의 전개를 위한 이론적 고찰로 창살의 의미와 변천과정에 대해 연구하였고, 현존하는 사찰창살의 자료를 분석하여 사찰창살의 종류와 조형성, 사찰창살 문양의 상징성, 사찰창살의 색채에 대해 연구하였다. 또한, 문헌에 의한 사진자료 및 상품을 통해 창살문양이 현대적으로 표현된 사례를 살펴봄으로써 현대적 표현방법을 모색하였다. 이와 같은 이론적 배경을 토대로 사찰창살에서 나타나는 문양의 반복, 문양의 크기와 형태의 배열, 공간적 비례를 응용하여 작품에 표현하였고, 현대에 맞는 디자인으로 변형시켜 다양한 형태로 표현하였다. 본 연구에서 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사찰창살 문양의 다양성을 디자인의 모티브로 사용하여 현대적인 조형미 에 부합할 수 있는 새로운 형태의 디자인을 제시할 수 있었다. 둘째, 사찰창살 문양은 반복과 변화를 주된 구성요소로 가지고 있으므로 직물 디자인에서 통일감과 리듬감을 표현할 수 있었다. 셋째, 썸머 앤 윈터 (Summer & Winter)기법을 응용하여 자유롭게 문양을 디 자인할 수 있었고, 조직의 밀도감 표현의 용이함과 하나의 패턴에서 앞면과 뒷 면이 다른 디자인과 색상을 얻을 수 있어 양면을 사용할 수 있는 실용적인 직 물로 표현할 수 있었다. ; Today, we live in the age when cultural goods of design affect even the economic growth of one country. Design can announce the cultural identity and originality of one s own country in international society and plays an important role in creating the value added to products. Therefore, we cannot expect a new design to be developed without knowing tradition and need to develop the design fit for the internationalized age by researching, analyzing and developing in depth traditional patterns for our culture of design. This thesis is aimed at studying the patterns of the bars of a window at a Buddhist temple, reexamining tradition and symbolism contained in them, and studying Korean design through modern interpretation by applying the characteristics intrinsic to the patterns. For the theoretical background, I have studied about the meanings and the transitional process of the bars as theoretical investigation for developing the research, and studied about the kinds and plasticity of the bars, the symbolism of the patterns of the bars, and the colors of the bars by analyzing the existing data on the bars. Also, I sought the methods in which the patterns are expressed in modern ways by examining the cases in which they were expressed in modern ways through photo data by literature and merchandise. Based on the theoretical background like this, I have applied the repetition of the patterns, the arrangement of the sizes and the forms of the patterns, and spatial proportion which appear in the bars of a window at a Buddhist temple, expressed them in my work, and expressed them in various forms by transforming them into the design fit for modern times. The conclusion obtained from this study is as follows. First, by using the variety of the patterns as the motives of design, I could present a new form of design which can correspond to modern plastic beauty. Secondly, because they have repetition and change as their primary components, the patterns could express a sense of unity and a sense of rhythm in textile design. Thirdly, I could design the patterns freely by applying the technique of Summer & Winter, and express them as practical textile in which both sides can be used because it was easy to express a sense of density in tissue and because it was possible to get from one pattern design and color tone in which front side is different from back side.
