나비 날개 모티브를 응용한 직물디자인 연구

Abstract

The dry sentiment of modern people according to highly developed industrialization eventually necessitated the spirit in which to attempt to return to nature, one of human essential desires, and the concern with natural importance according to this is indicated throughout the whole culture. Like this, man has always longed for nature, looked for the motive of plastic activity in nature, not stopped in imitating this simply, observed and explored it incessantly, and pursued more developed aesthetic consciousness. In this study, I have chosen a butterfly among natural objects which become infinite motives of plastic art, studied the characteristics shown on its wings, and manufactured my work by using a variety of materials and techniques on the basis of these. For the theoretical background, I have explored the characteristics of a butterfly through observing nature, investigated the symbolism by surveying the butterfly expressed in Oriental and Occidental art, examined the plasticity of a butterfly by analyzing various colors, patterns and matie｀re of its wings. Also, I have investigated through literature and data how the image of its wings has been developed in modern design. In manufacturing my work, I have designed the image of its wings with diverse materials and techniques by analyzing the features shown in the patterns, colors and matie｀re of its wings. The conclusion obtained from this study is as follows. First, as for the forms of lines and circles extracted as the result of studying the patterns of its wings, I could emphasize their formal characteristics by having them expanded, repeated, decomposed and simplified in consideration of plasticity at the time of manufacturing design. Secondly, for various colors of its wings were slope painting and the technique of subtracting patterns used, and the effect according to the degrees how dye permeates slope was suitable to expressing the color tone of its wings as if to disperse. Thirdly, in expressing the matie｀re of its wings, I have expressed the surface of the wings and the feeling of hairs hung at the end with cozy matie｀re by using the hairs of an ostrich. I have also expressed the transparency of the wings by using mono-filament, and I could express metallic and glossy wings by using metallic threads. Fourthly, the gorgeous ornamentality of a butterfly could express ornamental images with the help of techniques of applique´, beadwork and so on. In this study, I did not wish to simply reproduce the wings of a butterfly which is the motive obtained from nature, but I transformed it newly by interpreting it subjectively and wanted to express peculiar sensibility by the technique of handicrafts by which one can feel one s hands. ; 고도로 발전된 산업화에 따른 현대인들의 메마른 정서는 결국 인간의 본질적 욕구 가운데 하나인 자연으로 돌아가려는 정신을 필요로 하였고, 이에 따른 자연의 소중함에 대한 관심이 문화 전반에 걸쳐 나타나고 있다. 이처럼 인간은 항상 자연을 동경해왔고 조형 활동의 모티브를 자연에서 찾아 이를 단순히 모방하는데 그치지 않고 끊임없이 관찰하고 탐구하여 보다 발전된 미의식을 추구하였다. 본 연구는 조형 예술의 무한한 모티브가 되는 자연물 중 나비를 선택하여 나비의 날개에서 보여지는 특징들을 연구하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 다양한 재료와 기법을 사용하여 작품을 제작하였다. 이론적 배경으로는 자연의 관찰을 통해 나비의 특징을 알아보고, 동·서양의 예술 속에서 표현된 나비를 조사하여 상징성을 고찰하였으며, 나비 날개의 다양한 색채와 무늬, 질감을 분석하여 나비의 조형성을 알아보았다. 또한 현대 디자인에서 나비 날개의 이미지가 어떻게 발전되어 왔는지를 문헌과 자료를 통해 알아보았다. 작품 제작에 있어서 나비 날개의 무늬, 색채, 질감에서 보여지는 특징을 분석하여 다양한 재료와 기법으로 나비 날개의 이미지를 디자인하였다. 본 연구에서 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 나비 날개의 패턴 연구 결과 추출된 선과 원의 형태는 디자인 제작시 조형성을 고려하여 확대, 반복, 단순화시켜 형태적 특성을 강조할 수 있었다. 둘째, 나비 날개의 다양한 색채는 경사 페인팅과 발염기법을 사용하였고, 경사에 염료가 스며드는 정도에 따른 효과는 흩어지는 듯한 나비 날개의 색상 표현에 적합하였다. 셋째, 나비 날개의 질감 표현에 있어서 날개 표면과 끝에 달린 털 느낌을 깃털을 사용하여 포근한 질감으로 표현하였다. 또한 모노 필라멘트사의 사용으로 나비 날개의 투명성을 표현하였고, 메탈릭사의 사용으로 금속성의 광택 나는 날개를 표현할 수 있었다. 넷째, 나비의 화려한 장식성은 아플리케와 비드 워크 등의 기법으로 장식적인 이미지를 표현 할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 자연에서 얻은 모티브인 나비의 날개를 단순히 재현하고자 한 것이 아니라 주관적으로 해석하여 새롭게 변형시켰으며 사람의 손길을 느낄 수 있는 수공예적인 기법으로 독특한 감수성을 표현하고자 하였다.
