창과 벽에 의한 공간성 표현 연구

Abstract

Man is a temporal and spatial being. He not only cannot get out of the restriction of time from his birth to his death, but he is also a terrestial being who cannot lead a life away from the surface of the earth. By the same token, human society or culture is formed temporally and spatially and is being re-formed, changed and developed. And man goes on basically accumulating knowledge in temporal and spatial experience through sensory organs. In such points, space together with time becomes the existential foundation and the cognitive ground which prescribe individual or human life called society and culture. The space felt by man is formed by the correlation between man and objects perceived based on a prior knowledge or the five senses of man. I selected the spatiality endowed by windows and walls in order to express the mutual understanding between internal space perceived psychologically and external environment of surrounding environment. As substantial spatial constructs, windows and walls contribute to the relationship between the internal space and the external one and are the elements of determining the nature of each space. Visually they determine the space of open or closed shape, but psychologically they lead the mutual understanding between the inside and the outside and expand and induce the flow of space. Thus, I want to focus on the mutual understanding between substantial space and psychological one and depict the spatiality by windows and walls by making images of windows and walls which are the media of space. In theoretical background, I have examined psychological space and plastic one together with the concept of space. I have also investigated the function and symbol and spatiality of windows and walls as the subject of my work. I have examined in what shape these were expressed in works of art and compared and analyzed the works of domestic and foreign artists who formalized windows and walls and who expressed spatiality. In manufacturing my work, I manufactured and weaved it centered on the images of windows and walls. Square form of grid, landscape expressed by the technique of brocade, and the image of windows shown as the image of eyes were used as the passages of connecting reality and ideal, internal and external worlds. The image of walls was expressed by overlapping the geometric forms of brick and the image of eyes, and used as a medium of inducing internal space and external one to be expanded. In conclusion, in this study, I want to express the recognition and the psychological state for space which is the object of incessant concern and existential background, and concretely indicate the mutual understanding between the internal and the external worlds by analyzing the spatiality by windows and walls. ; 인간은 시·공간적 존재이다. 태어나면서 죽음에 이르기까지 시간의 굴레를 벗어날 수 없을 뿐만 아니라 지표 공간을 떠나서는 살아갈 수 없는 존재이다. 이러한 인간 존재들로 구성된 사회나 문화 역시 시·공간적으로 형성되고 재형성, 변화·발전해 나가고 있다. 그리고 인간은 기본적으로 감각 기관을 통한 시·공간적 경험 속에서 지식을 누적시켜 나아간다. 이러한 점에서 시간과 더불어 공간은 개인 또는 사회·문화라는 인간 생활을 규정하는 존재적 기반이며 인식적 근거가 된다. 인간이 느끼는 공간은 인간의 선험적 지식이나 오감에 의거하여 인간과 지각되는 물체와의 상호관계에 의해 형성된다. 인간이 가진 감각 기능들이 작동하는 순간 공간 내에 있는 대상과 상호공존하며 그들에 대한 내적 관계가 형성된다. 주체인 인간에게 심리적으로 지각된 내부 공간과 객체로서의 공간인 외부 환경과의 소통을 표현하기 위해 창과 벽에 의해 부여되는 공간성을 택하였다. 창과 벽은 실질적 건축 공간 구조물로 내부공간과 외부 공간의 관계에 기여하며 각 공간의 성질을 결정짓는 요소이다. 시각적으로는 열리거나 닫힌 형태의 공간을 결정하지만 심리적으로는 내·외부의 소통을 주도하며 공간의 흐름을 확장 유도하고 인간과 지각되는 대상과의 상호 소통의 매개체로 그려진다. 따라서 공간의 소통에 초점을 맞추고 공간의 매개체인 창과 벽을 이미지화하여 창과 벽에 의한 공간성을 그려내고자 한다. 이론적 배경에서는 공간의 개념과 더불어 심리적 공간, 지각에 의한 공간, 그리고 조형적 공간을 살펴보았다. 또한 작품의 주제로 창과 벽의 기능과 상징 그리고 지각에 의한 체험적 건축 공간 안에서의 창과 벽의 공간성을 고찰하였다. 이것들이 예술 작품 속에서 어떠한 모습으로 표현되었는지 알아보고 창과 벽을 형상화하여 공간성을 표현한 국내외 작가들의 작품을 비교 분석하였다. 작품 제작에 있어서는 창과 벽의 이미지를 중심으로 제직하였다. 그리드(Grid) 형태, 브로케이드(Brocade)기법으로 표현된 풍경의 형상으로 나타난 창의 이미지는 현실과 이상, 나와 세계를 이어주는 통로로 이용되었다. 벽의 이미지는 벽돌의 기하학적 형태와 눈의 형상을 중첩하여 표현되었으며 내부와 외부공간의 확장을 유도하는 매개로 이용되었다. 결론적으로 본 연구에서는 끊임없는 관심의 대상이고 존재적 바탕인 공간에 대한 인식과 심리상태를 표현하고, 구체적으로는 창과 벽에 의한 공간성을 분석함으로 내부와 외부세계의 소통을 나타내고자 한다.
