민화와 르네 마그리트 회화를 응용한 텍스타일 디자인

Abstract

오늘날 우리는 다양한 문화, 다양한 시대가 혼합된 세계에서, 다양한 장소를 옮겨 다닐 수 있는 새로운 테크널러지의 문명 속에서 살고 있다. 클릭 한번으로 한 채널에서 다른 채널로, 한 아이콘에서 다른 아이콘으로 넘어가면서 그 즉시 시공을 뛰어 넘을 수 있는 이런 자유를 축하 해야 하는지, 주변의 메말라 가는 인간성이나, 파괴된 자연 환경, 그리고 지금까지도 계속되는 전쟁을 바라보며 절망 해야 하는지 혼란스럽다. 그렇지만, 역사 속에서 인간을 불행하게 만드는 사건과 함께 인류는 끊임없이 이상 세계를 꿈꾸었고, 도전하고 희망을 잃지 않았다. 거대한 네트워크가 형성 되 가고 있는 지금의 사회는 초현실주의 운동 발생 배경이 된 시대적 배경인 산업 사회보다 빠르고, 총체적으로 변화하고 있다. 20세기 초반 아방가르드들은 모순된 사회에 격렬한 방법으로 대항해 왔고, 그 누구보다 한 걸음 앞서서 세상의 흐름을 통찰해 왔다. 이제는 미디어가 끊임없이 내뿜는 이미지, 소리, 말 가운데서 잠시 멈추고 우리의 모습을 바라 볼 수 있게 하는 예술과 디자인이 필요 하다고 생각 한다. 텍스타일 디자인 분야도 사회, 예술, 문화, 테크널러지의 이해 없이는 새로운 미래를 개척 할 수 없으며, 특히 이러한 요소와 더불어 우리 나라의 경우에는 전통 문화를 이해하고 적극적으로 디자인에 활용 하여 세계 시장에서 한국 디자인이 고급 브랜드로 자리잡는 일이 시급한 문제라고 생각 한다. 1980년대 이후로 많은 디자이너들이 한국의 전통미를 바탕으로 한 디자인 개발에 노력해 왔고, 1990년대 이후로는 단순한 과거 지향적인 디자인이 아닌 전통의 기반 위에서 고유 문화를 독특한 미적 감성으로 재 창조 하는 어느 정도의 성과를 거두어 왔다고 생각 한다. 본 연구는 이러한 시대의 흐름을 되돌아 보고 민화의 해학성과 조형적 특징을 텍스타일 디자인에 현대적인 모습으로 도입하고자 한다. 민화를 디자인에 도입 하는데 있어 민화 그 자체를 현대적인 감각으로 재 창조 하는 방법도 있을 수 있겠지만, 본 연구에서는 민화를 초현실주의 화가인 르네 마그리트 회화와 컴퓨터라는 매체를 통하여 결합 함으로써 한국적인 미적 감성과 초현실주의적 신비함을 가진 현대적인 인테리어 패브릭 디자인으로 개발 하고자 다음과 같이 연구한다. 첫째, 조선 후기에 널리 유행 했던 민화를 통해 우리 선조들의 자연 친화적인 세계관을 이해하고, 그 안에 표출된 우리 민족의 해학적이고 대담한 기질과 조형적 특징을 연구한다. 둘째, 1930년대에 발생하여 예술 전반과 현대인들의 사고에 까지 영향을 미친 초현실주의에 대하여 전반적으로 이해 하고, 그 가운데 초현실주의 운동의 역사에서 강력하고 중요한 그림들을 남긴 르네 마그리트와 그가 주로 사용한 데페이즈망 기법을 연구한다. 셋째, 르네 마그리트 회화와 민화를 결합한 형태의 디자인을 도출 하기 위하여, 두 회화가 그리고 있는 상상의 세계와 표현 양식을 비교 한다. 넷째, 민화를 현대적인 모습으로 디자인에 응용하기 위하여, 민화를 중심에 놓고 르네 마그리트 회화의 특성을 도입하는 방법과 르네 마그리트의 회화적 특징을 살린 것을 중심에 두고 민화 오브제를 도입하는 두가지 방법으로 접근해 본다. 다섯째, 인테리어 패브릭의 최근 경향을 알아 보고, 한국적 이면서 새로운 인테리어 패브릭으로 디자인을 시도하고, 그 개발 가능성을 연구 한다. 본 연구자는 이러한 연구를 통하여 다음과 같은 결론을 도출 하였다. 첫째, 민화는 장식적이고 서민들의 정서를 담은 하위 문화 였음에도 불구하고 우리 선조들의 자유 분방한 미적 감성을 보여주며 뛰어난 조형성과 현대적인 조형 요소를 내포 함으로써 독립적으로도 디자인 모티브로서의 충분한 조건을 가지고 있으며, 또한, 르네 마그리트 회화에서 자주 사용 되는 데페이즈망 기법을 통하여 민화를 낮선 장소에 옮기고, 다른 현대적인 오브제와 병치 시키고, 민화 그림을 변형 시키거나 르네 마그리트 회화와 결합 하여도 그 고유의 특성을 잃지 않음으로써, 한국적 특징을 가진 현대적 디자인화 할 수 있는 가능성을 가지고 있다. 둘째, 초현실주의 운동은 인간의 무의식을 탐구하여 꿈의 이미지들로 예술의 양식을 만들었다. 그 운동 안에서, 르네 마그리트는 사회와 인간의 본질이 모순 이라고 정의하고, 현실과 환상, 의식과 무의식 세계의 경계를 모호히 만들면서, 존재에 대하여 끊임 없이 질문 하도록 유도 한다. 일상적으로 볼 수 있는 오브제들을 병치 시키는 방법으로 이러한 효과를 극대화 시켰다. 셋째, 민화와 르네 마그리트 회화를 결합한 형태의 디자인을 하기 위한 방법으로서, 민화 그림에 현대적인 오브제를 병치 시키는 방법과 르네 마그리트 회화적인 방법을 통한 공간 구조물에 민화 오브제를 병치 시키는 두 가지 방법을 효과적인 디자인 프로세스로 추천 할 수 있다. 넷째, 인테리어 패브릭은 칼라, 소재, 패턴의 변화 양상에서 급격한 변화를 보이고 있으며, 슈퍼 그래픽이라는 표현 방법과 미디어를 통하여 사이즈가 극대화 되거나 기존의 아이템과 다른 양상으로 발전할 가능성을 내포하고 있다. 이와 같은 연구를 통하여 본 연구자는 민화와 르네 마그리트 회화, 그 작품들 안에 담긴 철학, 조형 원리, 오브제등을 활용하여 손으로 그리고 컴퓨터를 통하여 합성하는 방법으로 디자인하고, 디지털 프린트하는 제작 과정을 통하여 새로운 텍스타일 디자인의 가능성을 제시 하였다. 현대인의 생활 공간에 사용할 인테리어 패브릭에 우리의 미적 감성을 표현하고 새로운 형태로 디자인 하기 위해서는, 전통 예술에 담긴 의식과 그 안의 조형성에 관한 이해를 선행 함으로써 한국적인 독창성을 살리고, 세계인이 공감 할 수 있는 트랜드로 재 창조 되어야 하며, 새로운 테크널러지의 적극적 활용이 있어야 한다는 결론을 얻었다. ; We are living in an age of diversified cultures, in a world of mixed eras, and we are able to freely move from one place to another, this is the age of new technology and civilization. With a press of a button, we can easily change one channel to another; and with the change of an icon, we are not affect by time and space. I do not know whether we should celebrate such freedoms, because of our problems: the degradation of the human nature, the destruction of our natural environment, and the never ending wars which makes us despair. However, history tells us, even with the unhappy incidents we face, the human race has constantly sought after an idea world, and made challenges in hoping for a better future. With the formation of enormous network systems, our society seems to be changing faster and wider than the surrealist movement society of the past. In the 20th century, the Avant-garde have tried to oppose vehemently to the contradictory society of the time, they had the discernment to look ahead and see the future for the world. Today, we need to take a moment of break from the bombarding images, noise, and talk from the media; we need to have the instruments of "arts and design" to help us to look back on ourselves. In the designing the textiles, it is important for the designers to have understanding in the field of society, arts, culture, and technology. Without such knowledges, it will be difficult to pioneer for the future; and especially in Korea, with the addition of various understandings, we need to be educated in our traditional culture - to apply our traditional concepts in the designing work. This can help us in merchandising Korea s textile as high value brand in the world market, this is out immediate issue in need. And from the 1980 s many designers have made attempts in using the Korean traditional styles of designs in their work. And in the 1990 s it has developed into expressing not only the past traditional styles, but also in showing cultural heritage, uniqueness, and aesthetical beauty. Such attempts have made considerable progress in the traditional designing field. This research is for the purpose of looking back into the past trends, and I hope to model the traditional folk painting styles, witty characteristics, and the formative arts in creating an unique design of textile which has the modern feelings to it. In applying folk painting styles in the design, there are ways to transforming it into modern styles, however, my goal is to create a design that is in combination with folk painting styles, surrealistic aspects(Like the artist Rene Margritte), and with the computer, I hope the outcome will be a modern interior fabric design that has the characteristics of Korea s aesthetics and surrealistic mystery. First, I will try to learn about the folk painting which were popular at the end of Chosun dynasty in relation to the ancestral way of life in preserving the natural environment(in relation to world). I hope to study about our people s characteristics such as : wittiness, boldness, and the formative aspects of life. Secondly, I will try to understand the overall arts ideology which began in the 1930 s and the influence which it made on modern people as well as the surrealist movement. Also, I will research about Rene Margritte(important surrealist), who has left us with important art paintings, and his art technique called the depaysement. Thirdly, in order to create a design which is in combination with Rene Margritte s paintings and folk painting styles, I hope to compare and study about the images and the expressions of both forms of arts. Fourth, two methodologies can be considered in producing a modern design. First, there is a way of placing the folk painting style in the center and adding the Rene Margritte styles; second, placing the Rene Margritte styles in the center and then adding the folk painting styles. Fifth, I will research about the present trends of the interior fabric, and will try to create a interior fabric design which contains Korea s elegance - and will continue to research in the possibility of such fabric. From the researches I have made, I have come to the following conclusion: First, in the research concerning folk painting styles, I have come to see that although it was a decorative cultural paintings for the common people, it express our ancestral way of life in showing their free-spirit and their aesthetical characteristics. It also express the highly developed formative arts, which also seems to contain the modern aspects; independently, folk paintings show the design motif in its fullness. And even when Rene Margritte s painting technique of depaysement and other modern objet styles were used in association with the folk painting styles; although the folk style painting may be altered, it still did not loose its Korean characteristics as well as containing the modern design qualities. Secondly, surrealism movement has caused the unconscious images of humans and made it to become a from of art. Through this movement, Rene Margritte has expressed that society and humans both have true nature in themselves which are contradictory to itself; and he has made undistinguishable the reality and fantasy, and the conscious and unconscious world; he has also made us to continually ask questions concerning our existence. Most common forms of objet were placed side by side, in order to obtain the best results. Third, to create a design which is effective and in combination with folk and Rene Margritte s paintings styles, two methods can be applied: we can add modern objet to the folk painting styles, or we can use the Rene Margritte s painting methods and add the folk painting style objet side by side at the open structural space. Fourth, the interior fabric is changing as it is effected by color, material, and by pattern alterations. And with the super graphic expression method, and by the use of media, its size is being maximized to the fullest, interior fabric is being set apart from the existing items. with this research, I will create a new style of textile design by using the following method: I will utilize the folk painting styles; the Rene Margritte painting styles; the philosophy, formative aspects, and objet, which these arts contain, and I will sketch by hand as well as with the computer in developing the best possible design. And lastly, with the digital printing production, I hope to create a possibility for a new kind of textile design. In conclusion, I have learned, in order to create a new design of fabric which can be used by present day people in their living spaces we must be able to understand the cultural and formative arts and its ideas. This will enable us to maintain out unique Korean design styles, and also should be able to conform to the world s preferences; thus, we must fully utilize the new technologies in obtaining our goals
