따뜻한 감정을 불러 일으키는 빛 공간 표현

Abstract

빛은 물체를 채색하고, 인간을 조율하여 장소의 분위기를 만든다. 빛을 매체로 해서 이 물리적 세계는 그 존재를 높일 수 있으며, 비생명적 존재를 마치 매혹적인 생명체인양 전환시킨다. 또한 빛은 인간의 따뜻한 감정을 자극하여 우리의 정서를 풍부하게 해 줄 뿐만 아니라, 우리의 영혼을 일깨워 주어 물리적 현실 이면의 다른 차원을 상상하게 해준다. 이러한 상상으로써 우리의 사고의 폭을 확장시킬 수 있고, 따라서 삶을 살아가는 시각을 새롭게 할 수 있다. 본 연구는 비물질적이고, 확장적 특성을 지닌 빛이 물체와 공간 그리고 시간과 만나 생기는 조형적 효과를 살펴보았다. 그리고 빛은 비물질적 특성으로 인해 이성적 사고로는 도달 할 수 없는 현실 이면의 세계를 보여준다. 이것은 체험으로 인한 깨달음으로 알 수 있는 것이다. 본 연구의 목적은 빛을 재료로 사용한 조각이 놓여진 전시 공간이 신비한 분위기를 연출하고, 인간의 따뜻한 감정을 자극하여, 여러 가지 상상을 가능케 하는 공간을 구축하게 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 이론적 배경에서는 빛을 공간과 결합하여 작업을 하였던 작가와 작품을 분석하였고, 빛의 영혼성을 느끼게 해주는 작가와 작품을 살펴보았다. 작가와 작품의 예를 통해 얻어지는 결과와 일반적인 빛의 속성을 밝힘으로써 얻어지는 결과를 종합하여 현실 이면의 세계를 밝히고자 하였다. 표현내용에서는 빛을 사용하는 조각이 빛의 작용으로 그것이 놓여진 공간을 활성화시키고, 신비한 분위기를 창출하여, 영적인 차원으로의 접근하는 과정을 밝혔다. 표현방법에서는 표현 재료로서의 빛의 광학적 특성과 그 외의 다른 재료의 사용에 대해 밝혔으며, 형태의 배열과 설치를 통해 얻어지는 결과를 밝혔다. 작품 분석에서는 개인적 체험에서 얻어진 작업동기를 밝혔고 이론적 배경과 표현 내용, 표현 방법에 근거하여 분석하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻어낸 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 비물질인 빛은 샌딩한 아크릴, 채색된 파라핀 또는 트레이싱지 같은 물질을 투과하면서 물질 자체에 생동감과 활기를 준다. 특히 파라핀 덩어리를 투과할 때의 효과는 파라핀이 계속적으로 녹아가는 상태를 상상케 하며 시간성과 실제성을 더욱 강하게 느끼게 해준다. 둘째, 확장성을 가지는 빛은 어두운 공간에 놓여졌을 때 전체 공간에 반향하면서 공간을 확장시킨다. 또한 빛을 앞에서 차단했을 때에는 그 차단한 물질을 일부 투과하고 남은 빛이 바닥 또는 벽에 비치어 바닥과 벽의 공간도 무한히 확장시킨다. 셋째, 빛은 파스텔톤의 색채, 그리고 꽃의 이미지와 결함함으로써 관객의 따뜻한 감정을 자극하고 주위 공간을 색깔 있는 빛으로 물들임으로써 빛의 신비함을 체험케 하고, 더 나아가 물리적 공간의 한계를 벗어나 영적인 차원으로 접근하게 해준다. 넷째, 빛의 또다른 형태인 영상은 화면의 크기를 한쪽 벽면과 같은 크기로 조절하여 실제 공간과 연결되는 느낌을 줄 수 있으며, 전체 화면에 걸쳐 깃털이 비처럼 내리는 이미지는 따뜻함과 신비함을 느끼게 해준다. 또한 화면의 분홍색 톤은 관객의 행복감을 자극한다. 음향은 관객의 청각을 자극하여 벽면 전체를 차지하는 화면과 더불어 화면 안의 세상을 체험하는 데 있어 실제감을 더욱 높여 준다. ; Light colors objects and tunes the lives of human beings so that it makes the mood of space. Light heightens the dimension of this physical world and makes non-living things alive and charming. Light also stimulates the genial emotion of human beings and enriches our feeling. Light makes us realize our souls and be able to imagine the other side of this physical real world. This imagination processes render the scope of thoughts broader and give us the opportunity to see our lives in a different perspective. This dissertation concentrates on observing the molding effects of light whose characteristics are concerned with material, space and time, when it contacts objects, space and time. The non-materiality, a characteristic of light, reveal the secrets hidden in the other side of the real world, which can be observed by not rational analyses but understanding via experiences. The purpose of this dissertation is to present the way to make space, at which sculptures combined by light are placed, individually produce the surreal mood, stimulate our genial emotion and give us the opportunity to imagine as a result. In this context, the surreal mood means mystical mood derived from the characteristics of light. At the chapter of the theoretical background, I analyze some artists and their works, who have combined light with space, and other artists and their products, who have made us feel the souls of light. I intend to present the other side of the real world by synthesizing the results from the analysis of the works and artists as mentioned above and the general characteristics of light. At the chapter of expression contents, I present the process that the sculpture using light makes the space alive, produces a mystical atmosphere and pave the way to approach the soul dimension through the operation of light. At expression method of this dissertation, I analyze the optical characteristic of light as one of expression materials, the usage of other materials and the results derived from arrangement and installment of forms. At the chapter of the analysis of works, I present the working motive from personal experiences and analyze it on the basis of theoretical background, expression contents and expression method. The conclusion of this dissertation is as follows. First, light makes objects alive and vivid, and enlarge space when it contacts objects. Second, light produces a surreal world beyond the meaning of colors when the former is combined with the latter. Third, light stimulates our genial emotion so that it renders us imagine the other side of the real world and enlightens our souls. Fourth, light can maximize its effects by expanding its forms to sounds or pictures.
