의미로 채워지는 상자의 공간 표현

Abstract

우리는 일상의 삶 속에서 수많은 사물들을 접한다. 그러면서 대상의 물리적 정보만을 인식함에 그치지 않고 자신의 관점과 사물을 둘러싼 상황이나 인물, 감정들에 따라 개인적인 의미를 부여하게 된다. 때문에 같은 사물을 보더라도 사람마다 서로 다른 생각과 감정이 일어나게 되며, 한 개인에게도 한가지의 사물에 대하여 여러 가지 심상이 일어날 수 있다. 본 연구는 사물을 바라보는 일상적 삶의 방식을 이해하는 데서 출발하여, 우리의 삶 속에서 사물의 의미가 고정관념에서 벗어난 주체에 의해 주관적 의미를 부여받음으로서 구성된다는 현상학적 세계관을 전제로 한다. 본 연구에서는 생활 속에서 흔히 쓰이는 상자라는 하나의 사물을 선택하여 단순히 물건을 담는다는 일상적인 용도에서 벗어나, 보는 이들의 심리상태에 의해 다양한 의미와 상상으로 채워질 수 있는 가능성이 담긴 공간으로 보고 이를 시각화하는 데 그 목적을 두었다. 이로 인해 대상의 물리적 모습 뒤에 숨겨진 각자의 소중한 경험과 감정을 인식하게 하게 하고자 한다. 여기서 의미 라고 하는 것은 현상학적 의미론에 기반을 둔 것으로서 사물의 진정한 의미는 주체가 물리적 대상의 고정관념을 배제하고 순수하게 사물을 경험함으로서 읽어낼 때에 비로소 구성된다는 주관적 관점을 말한다. 본 연구는 이론적 배경에서 사물과 의미 의 관계를 통해 일상적 삶 속에서 한 주체가 사물을 바라보고 이해하는 방법에 대해 살펴보고 예술작품 속에서 상자가 어떤 의미로 표현 되었는지 알아보았다. 표현내용에서는 상자가 가지는 공간적 특성을 통해 그 속에 의미가 담길 수 있음을 작품 전개 내용으로 밝혔다. 표현내용에 따른 방법으로는 이를 시각화하기 위한 형태적, 방법적 특성과 색채와 재료의 사용으로 나타나는 효과에 대하여 살펴보았다. 작품 분석에서는 7점을 대상으로 이론적 배경과 표현 내용 빛 방법에 근거하여 분석하였다. 작품 표현에 있어서 상자가 보는 이들의 개인적인 의미로 자유롭게 채워지도록 하기 위하여 구체적 사물을 넣는 것을 배제함으로 내부 공간에 대해 상상의 여지를 남기도록 하였다. 그리고 뚜껑이 닫힌 채로 내부가 꽉 차 부풀어 있는 상자의 형태를 캐스팅 하거나, 상자 속에 다양한 심상을 불러일으키는 이미지를 배치하여 내부존재에 대한 궁금증과 상상력을 자극하는 표현이 되었다. 또한 일상생활에서 흔히 쓰이는 뚜껑이 달린 종이상자의 형태를 석고나 천, 종이 등 다양한 재료로 표현하여 일상적 사물을 다른 눈으로 바라보게 하였고, 내부 이미지를 푸른색이나 초록색, 밝게 빛나는 빛과 같이 생동감 있는 색채를 사용하여 활기찬 공간으로 연출하였으며 전체적으로 연하게 처리하여 보는 이들의 섬세하고 부드러운 감성을 자극하였다. 바느질이나 연마와 같이 오랜 시간을 필요로 하는 방법은 상자 안을 소중한 공간으로 느껴지도록 하며, 실제 상자를 캐스팅 함으로서 삶의 모습 속에 묻어있는 기억과 감정을 드러내는 효과를 가진다. 본 연구는 일상적 삶을 이해하는 측면에서 개인이 각 사물에 주관적으로 의미를 부여할 수 있다는 입장으로 진행되었으며, 상자의 공간을 통하여 보는 이들로 하여금 외형적으로 보이는 사물 이면에 삶 속에서 일어나는 다양하고 소중한 경험의 의미들을 발견하고 느끼게 할 수 있는 표현과정이 되었다. ; We encounter a lot of things in our daily lives. We give personal meaning to them according to each individual s point of view, circumstances and emotions as well as recognizing physical information of the subject. Therefore, each person has different thoughts and emotions when looking at the same thing, and it is possible that various images occur to an individual about one thing. This study starts from understanding the way of daily life, and it has a premise that the meaning of things of our lives are embodied with subject meaning by the subject escaping from fixed concept. This study has a purpose to visualize a box seeing as space of the possibility that can be filled with various kinds of individual meaning and imagination following the state of mind, not limited to the routine use that holds things. It lies in making people realize each one s precious experience and emotion hidden behind the physical feature of an object. Meaning here indicates a subjective point of view that true meaning of a thing is realized when the subject experiences things purely excluding fixed concept of a physical object, and it is based on the phenomenal theory of meaning. This study looks at the way of an individual s looking at things in daily life through relation between things and meaning in the theoretical background, and it also examines in what meaning a box is presented in works of art. The methods of expression contents include characteristics of form, methods and the effect of using color and material. The analysis on work is based on 7 pieces of work with its theoretical basis, expression contents and methods. This study takes a box as the space filled with various individual meaning and imagination following the viewers subjectivity, and I express the space whose inside seems filled by arranging the image that induces visual interest in between covers amplified or opened from the form of a box with its cover closed. For the work, I use paper boxes with various materials such as plaster, cloth and paper to make look at ordinary things with a different point of view, and also apply various skills such as sewing and grinding. Also, to provoke individual meaning from the viewers with imagination of the interior existence of a box, I exclude putting things into the box, which is the expression of stimulating curiosity and imagination. This study is based on the position that an individual can give subjective meaning to things, and it has become the process of groping for the possibility of expression through precious experience that happen on the other side of life.
