반편견 교육활동이 유아의 장애에 대한 태도에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 반편견 교육활동이 유아의 장애에 대한 태도를 수용적으로 변화시키는지 알아보고, 이에 기초하여 교육현장에서 유아교사들이 반편견 교육을 실시하는데 도움을 줄 수 있는 기초자료를 제시하는데 있다. 이러한 연구목적에 따라 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 1. 반편견 교육활동의 실시 유·무에 따라 유아들의 장애에 대한 태도 에 차이가 있는가? 2. 반편견 교육활동의 영향이 성별에 따라 차이가 있는가? 본 연구의 대상은 서울시 동작구에 소재한 K유치원의 만 5세반 2학급 유아 60명을 대상으로, 한 학급의 유아 30명은 실험집단으로 다른 학급의 유아 30명은 통제집단으로 선정하였다. 실험집단에는 주 2～3회씩 4주 동안 10회에 걸쳐 장애 관련 반편견 교육활동을 실시하였고, 통제집단은 유치원의 일상적인 교육 프로그램을 진행하였다. 실험 처치용으로 실시한 장애에 대한 반편견 교육활동은 동화책, 장애인형, 모의 장애 체험, 보장구 소개 등을 통해 장애에 대한 이해를 도울 수 있는 것으로 구성하였다. 연구도구는 Favazza와 Odom(1995)이 유아들의 장애에 대한 태도를 알아보기 위하여 제작한 유아용 수용 척도(Acceptance Scale for Kindergartners: ASK)를 번역한 후 사용하였다. 수집된 자료는 실험집단과 통제집단 각각의 사전·사후검사 점수의 평균과 표준편차, t-test를 이용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 반편견 교육활동을 실시한 실험집단과 반편견 교육활동을 실시하지 않은 통제집단의 장애에 대한 태도에는 차이가 나타났다. 즉, 반편견 교육활동은 유아의 장애에 대한 수용적 태도에 영향을 주었다. 둘째, 반편견 교육활동을 실시한 실험집단 남·여 유아의 장애에 대한 태도 변화에는 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 즉, 반편견 교육활동은 성별에 따른 차이 없이 남·여 유아의 장애에 대한 수용적 태도에 영향을 주었다. 이러한 연구결과가 유아교육현장에 주는 시사점은 다음과 같다 첫째, 장애에 대한 반편견 교육활동은 유아의 장애에 대한 편견과 태도를 긍정적으로 변화시키는 방법이므로 반편견 교육은 장애유아가 통합되어 있는 통합유치원의 유아뿐만 아니라 학령기, 그리고 사회에서 장애인과 더불어 살아갈 모든 유아들을 대상으로 실시해야 한다. 둘째, 장애에 대한 반편견 교육활동을 실시할 때는 보다 장기적으로 장애인과의 직·간접적인 접촉, 장애에 대한 정보 제공, 모의 장애 체험 등 여러 활동으로 구성하여 실시하고, 일상의 생활 속에서 장애에 대해 관심을 갖고 유아들과 경험을 나누는 것이 바람직하다. ; The study reported in this paper is to examine the effect of anti-bias activities on children s attitude toward the handicapped. This study also presents a groundwork that helps the childhood education teachers when they carried anti-bias childhood education activities in the field. For this purpose, the study questions are established as follows: 1. Is there a difference on children s attitude on the handicapped between the two groups, one group carried with anti-bias education activity programs on the handicapped and the other group without the program? 2. Is there a difference on children s attitude on the handicapped between the two sexes in the group carried with anti-bias activity programs on the handicapped? For this study, 60 5-years-old children were selected at K Kindergarten located in Seoul. A class of 30 children was set for an experiment group and the other class was set for a control group. The experiment group was given lessons by anti-bias education activity programs on the handicapped by 10 times during 4 weeks. Meanwhile the control group went on with normal daily programs of the Kindergarten. In order to capture children s anti-bias attitude on the handicapped, ASK(Acceptance Scale for Kindergartners) which was designed by Favazza and Odom(1995) was used by translating into Korean Language. Standard deviation and t-test were used for this study. The result of this study are summarized as follows: There was a significant difference between the experiment group and the control group. This result indicates that anti-bias education activities affect positive influence to children s attitudes on the handicapped. On the other hand, there was no significant difference between sexes in the experiment group. These results suggest following points : Firstly, anti-bias education activities on the handicapped in early childhood education may be an important way of changing children s biases and attitudes toward the handicapped. So, the anti-bias education activities used in this study may be extended to every community in which children will live with the handicapped. Secondly, when carrying anti-bias education activity programs, it should be designed for a long-term basis including direct and indirect social contact with the handicapped, Information distribution about the handicapped, and simulated handicapped experience. Furthermore, it is strongly recommended that who have a concern about the handicapped and share the experience on the handicapped with the children in daily life.
