; This study presents an analysis of the impact of capital controls on international capital flows implemented by Malaysian authorities late in the evolution of the Asian economic crisis. The bulk of the portfolio outflows were already over. The exchange rate had depreciated sharply and was fixed at an undervalued level making further capital flight unlikely. The highlight of the study is given to the arguments that benefits and the costs of the capital controls in Malaysia have been modest. The focus of the analysis is on the macroeconomic consequences of the imposition of the controls in the region such as GDP growth, the building of foreign reserves, and the relaxation of interest rates. This study also investigates the arrangement of good fix versus free float in time of financial turmoil in Asia and suggests possible regime that could be adopted in the pursuit of ever-lasting economic development in the era of the global economy.-
