딱지의 미니멀적 요소를 통한 반복 표현 연구

Abstract

Through studies in different fields, many artists have attempted to add rhythmical sense, unity, richness, and circulation in their work by specializing in research of repetition, which is one of the elements of Minimalism. Minimalism, a form of painting or sculpture that requires minimum number of resources, began in the late 1960s among juvenile American artists. It began as a rebellion against traditional concept and abstract Expressionism. Minimal artists turned their views to innocent compensatory world, and eliminated personal prejudice and emotions. This research is concentrated on the spiritual means of Minimalism. By using the repetition method with ddak-ji (traditional Korean card made for children s game) as the basic model, it is intended to express objectivity, clarity, simplicity, and innocence. For theoretical research, the concept, background, and characteristics of Minimalism were first taken into consideration. For modeling space construction, the method of repetition, characteristics of ddak-ji, and minimal expression through repetition were closely examined. Lastly, personal art works were specifically analyzed. To emphasize simplicity, illusion, production cost, and formality were minimized in the process of production. Also without creating the central view point of the whole screen, every part of the screen seemed to be related to every part of the whole screen. In the process of production, three techniques were applied: folding colored Korean paper for collage, drawing on many layers of Korean papers with oriental colors, and using black ink on Korean paper. In conclusion, transitional phases of personal paintings are generally explained, and each of the eight phases are analyzed thoroughly to examine the outcomes and problems of using repeating technique along with the elements of ddak-ji. ; 반복 이란 모든 예술분야에 걸쳐서 많은 예술가들에 의해 그 본질이 탐구되어 왔으며, 그 작업은 지금도 계속되고 있다. 미니멀리즘의 요소 중 하나라고 할 수 있는 반복성을 통하여 리듬감, 통일성, 풍요성과 순환성을 본인의 작품에서 얻고자 하였다. 미니멀리즘이란 1960년대 후반 미국의 젊은 작가들이 최소한의 조형 수단으로 제작하였던 회화나 조각을 의미하는데, 이는 전통적 관념과 추상표현주의에 대한 반발로서 출발하였다. 미니멀 작가들은 시선을 순수한 대상세계로 돌리게 하고, 주관적 편견과 인간적 감정을 철저히 배제하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 미니멀리즘의 중요한 정신적 의미, 그 중에서도 특히 반복의 조형적 특성에 기초하여 딱지란 소재를 이용하여 보다 객관적이고, 명료하며, 단순하고, 순수한 작품을 표현하는 것에 대한 것이다. 이론적 연구로는 첫째, 미니멀리즘의 개념과 발생배경 그리고 미니멀리즘의 특성을 고찰하였다. 또한 조형적 공간 구성 방법으로는 반복의 조형, 딱지의 조형적 특성, 그리고 반복을 통한 미니멀적 표현을 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 이러한 조형적 특성들이 나타난 미니멀적인 경향의 본인 작품들을 분석하여 보았다. 작품제작에 있어서는 일루젼의 최소화, 제작의 극소화, 그리고 형식에 있어서의 단순화를 추구하기 위해 반복을 이용한 작품들을 제작하였다. 화면의 중심을 설정하지 않고 구성하여, 표현된 화면이 전체의 일부분인 느낌이 들도록 하였으며 기법은 한지 색지를 접어서 꼴라쥬하는 방법, 장지에 채색으로 그리는 방법, 그리고 화선지에 수묵을 사용하는 방법을 사용하였다. 마지막으로는 작품의 변화단계를 개괄적으로 서술하고 그 중 방법적으로 변화의 과정이 보이는 8점을 선정하여 각각을 제시, 분석함으로써 작품을 통해 표현된 조형성의 성과와 함께 문제점을 점검하고자 한다.
