빛의 상징성에 관한 직물 표현연구

Abstract

서양 미술의 주류를 이루었던 기독교 미술은 르네상스 시대의 인문주의 기세에 눌려 점차 퇴조하였다. 그러나 기독교 사상은 현대에 이르러서도 영혼의 표현인 예술세계에 반영되고 있다. 본 연구는 정체성을 잃어버리고 방황하는 현대인에게 복음의 메시지를 전달하기 위하여, 종교예술의 본질적인 의의를 찾아내어 작품으로 나타낸 빛의 상징성에 관한 직물 표현연구이다. 기독교 감성을 전제로 하여 제작한 섬유조형물은 반복과 통일의 조형성을 신에 대한 엄숙함으로 시각화하고, 은총의 빛을 상징하는 불빛을 이용함으로써 크리스마스의 이미지를 빛과 직물의 상대적 효과로 표현하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이론적 연구 방법으로는 첫째, 기독교와 예술의 밀접한 관계를 고찰한 후 작품을 통해 현대미술 속에서 종교예술이 어떻게 표현되는지 분석하였다. 둘째, 종교적인 빛의 표현을 분석하기에 앞서서 종교예술과 상징에 대한 관련성을 알아본 후 성경에 나타난 빛의 상징적 의미를 고찰하였으며 은총의 빛 이미지를 표현한 작가들의 다양한 예술작품을 분석하였다. 작품 제작에 있어서 신의 세계의 표현은 화려한 금빛 광택과 신성한 빛으로 나타내었다. 반짝이는 금사와 인견코드사를 이용하여 제작한 여러 피스의 섬유조형물을 공간 속에 입체적으로 설치하였고, 기독교의 생명의 상징인 예수 그리스도 를 어두움 속의 빛으로 표현함으로써 명암대비로 인한 시각적 효과를 강조하였다. 평면으로 제작한 직물은 수직의 조형요소를 강조하여 입체적으로 재구성함으로써 종교적인 경건함을 표현하고자 하였다. 화려한 인공불빛의 운동감으로 인해 예수 탄생에 대한 축하와 기쁨의 이미지를 생동감있게 나타내고자 하였다. 이와 같은 작품 제작을 통한 분석 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 신성을 향해 지향된 예술가의 영혼이 담긴 창조활동은 하나님의 영광을 위해 사용되며, 기독교 예술관이 현대미술 속에 살아 있다는 증거를 보여주게 된다. 둘째, 종교예술에 있어서 빛의 표현 효과는 신성의 세계를 암시해 주며 빛에 의한 종교적인 감동은 작품의 숭고성을 강조해 준다. 셋째, 유연하게 직조한 섬유와 화려하고 강한 인공불빛의 상대적인 대비효과는 성스러운 분위기 속에서도 생동감있는 크리스마스의 이미지 효과를 강하게 전달시켜 준다. 넷째, 직물제작은 평면작업으로 이루어졌으나 피스의 조립방법과 설치방식에 따라 입체적 표현이 가능하였으며 자유롭게 창조된 조형표현은 공간과의 조화를 이루게 된다. 다섯째, 작품과 작품사이의 창출된 조형공간 속에서 관람자의 자유로운 움직임을 통한 감상은 예술이 추구하는 진리를 한층 더 가까이 만날 수 있도록 해 준다. 이와 같은 연구를 바탕으로 앞으로의 계속적인 연구와 창작활동을 통하여 기독교 예술에 대한 조형세계를 더욱 심도 있게 발전시켜 나가야 하겠다. ; Christian art, the main stream of Western art, was on the ebb by the high spirits of the Renaissance humanism. Still, Christian ideology is being reflected in the 21st century art of soul expression. This study is related to Christian art expressed in the works pursuing the substantial meaning of religion, in which human beings seek their identities lost in a flood of mechanism and environmental disruption. Soft sculpture embodied the Christian image visualized the dignity of God in formative arts by repetition of its vertical elements, and expressed festival image of Christmas in a relative effect of light and textile using gracious God light The theoretical methods of this study consist of three. First, the patterns of religious pictures of Christmas origin and Nativity by the times are scrutinized. Second, the way the religious art is expressed in modern art is analyzed through the religious works after considering a close relationship between Christianity and art. Third, the symbolic meaning of light in Bible and a number of Korean artists works is studied. In the production of the work, Gods world was expressed to the divine light and magnificent gold color. Using twinkling gold yarn and rayon yarn, several pieces of the textile formatives were three-dimensionally installed in space. And Jesus Christ, the symbol of Christian life, was expressed to the light in the dark by a visual effect using a clear contrast between light and shade. Plane textile shape expresses the religious piety by restructuring and emphasizing the vertical elements from all angles. Magnificent artificial light is full of life expressing festival image of Christmas efficiently. The results from the analysis of such works are as follows. First, creative art movement with artists soul aspiring to dignity is to bring glory to God. The mission of Christian art is to preach gospels conveying salvation and hope to people who appreciate the works. Second, light effect in the religious art intimates divine world. The religious impression by the light emphasizes the sublime of the works when the light is understood as Gods love, salvation, life, and grace. Third, contrast effect between soft textile and magnificent light stresses the vividness of festival image of Christmas. Transparency of the textile formative and visual effect of reflection can show the transcendental world reaching the truth. Fourth, plane textile can be in harmony with the space according to the way of assembling and installing pieces of art three-dimensionally. Fifth, audience can read the messages that art delivers by moving freely in the formative space of art works. Based on this study, it is hoped that deepened ideas and images in the formative art world can be searched through continuous study and creative activities in the future.
