삶의 경험을 통해 본 예술의 의미

Abstract

삶과 예술은 어떤 관계인가? 나에게 예술은 어떤 의미인가? 이 논문은 나의 삶과 예술의 관계에 대한 기본적인 의문으로부터 출발한다. 지금 여기의 나의 삶은 어떤 의미가 있고 작업은 어떤 의미여야 하는지. 예술이 나에게 무엇이어야 하는지에 대한 의문은 나의 삶에 대한 고민이 될 수밖에 없었다. 그러나 한가지 분명했던 것은, 인간이 우연적으로 세상에 던져진 존재라면 그 부조리한 삶에 의미부여를 하는 것은 자기 자신이라는 사실이었다. 온갖 세속적 가치를 벗어버리고 나에게는 아무 것도 없다는 것에서부터 찾아낸 진리는 작업이 즐거움이자 나를 나이게 하는 그 무엇이라는 사실이다. 나의 삶과 예술은 함께 하는 것이었다. 예술은 자기 확인에서 시작한다는 평범한 진리를 터득하는데 긴 세월이 걸려서 그 시작점으로 돌아온 것이다. 이것은 삶의 체험이 가져다 준 진리였다. 그렇다면 나는 작품에서 무엇을 표현해야 하는가? 이 의문은 예술가의 세계관에 대한 문제이다. 내가 주목했던 것은 인간과 자연의 관계를 바라보는 관점이었다. 현대사회는 인간의 합리적 이성을 기반으로 한 발전과 진보의 결과물이며, 그 과정에서 인간과 자연은 분리되었다. 그러나 인간과 자연은 하나이다. 유기체적 자연관과 장자에 의하면 우주적 실재는 만물에 내재되어 있으며 상호의존적으로 연결되어 있다. 나는 자연과 존재의 개념을 장자의 철학과 유기체적 자연관에서 찾았으며, 인간과 인간, 자연과 인간의 관계를 회복시킬 수 있는 대안으로서 사랑을 발견했다. 인간이 가진 잠재적인 자세인 사랑의 실천은 다른 이들과의 벽을 허무는 것이고, 진실한 나 자신이 되는 것이며, 세계를 공감하는 능력이 된다. 인생이란 자신이 사랑으로 키워졌음을 깨닫는 일이고 또 그 사랑으로 다른 생명을 키워내는 일이다. 인간의 삶이 근원적 실재를 찾아가는 여행이라고 한다면 사랑은 근원적 실재를 찾아가기 위한 방법이 된다. 이 사랑의 개념은 후에 이상으로 삼게된 장자의 예술론과도 연결이 되었다. 장자에게 있어 철학이란 인간의 자유에 대한 탐구이며 예술은 탐구된 자유를 표현하는 것이었다. 장자의 물화(物化)는 이상적인 예술의 차원을 말하는 개념으로 이것을 통하여 우리는 총체적인 미감을 경험한다. 만물이 하나라는 사실을 체득하고, 성찰을 통하여 인간이 진정 자유의 경지에 들어설 수 있게 될 때 진정한 예술이 탄생하는 것이다. 생활에서, 인생에서 세계를 공감하는 능력이 사랑이라면, 예술에서 세계와의 합일을 구하는 것은 장자의 물화(物化)이다. 그래서 나에게 사랑의 실천과 예술의 길은 같은 의미인 것이다. 나의 작업은 사랑의 개념과 장자의 예술론을 바탕으로 문화와 자연의 이질감을 극복하고, 인간과 자연의 조화를 의도하는 기획이다. 나는 나의 작업에서 자연적이고 일상적 재료를 사용하여 과정을 미술로서 끌어들인 아르테 포베라와 연관성을 찾았다. 자연과 인간의 분리를 극복하고자 함은 인위적인 것과 자연적인 것을 조화하고 인간이 잃어버린 자연적 감성을 회복시키고자 하는 작업이다. 그것은 사랑과 성찰로 이루어진 삶이 작품으로 연결되고, 다시 그 작품은 사람들과 교감하여 사람들의 일상생활로 흘러 들어가기를 바라는 소망이기도 하다. 그렇게 나는 삶과 예술이 조화를 이루며 함께 하기를 바라는 것이다. ; What s the relationship between life and art? What s the meaning of art in me? This study starts from the basic question to the relationship between life and art. What kind of meaning does my life have now and here and which meaning should my work of creating the art have? The interrogation that what should art be to me gradually became agony of life and I can t help escaping it. But, the only thing to be obvious is that it was not others but myself that if men were the being who was cast in the world to vest meanings in the absurd life. Taking off every sorts of worldly value, the truth founded from the thing which I have nothing and is the fact that my work of art is genuine pleasure and anything that makes me worthy of the name. My life and art should have been shared in good harmony. It takes long years to find out the common truth that art is self-satisfaction and I returned to the commencement of the truth. It s the one that I got from the life experience. The truth attained by the experience that we have met on the road of life is the point that nature reiterate the becoming and extinction and the birth and death of men is also a part of such a nature circulation. According to the organic view of the nature and Chuang-tzu s philosophy, cosmic reality is dwelt in everything and related with one another interdependently. I found the idea of the nature and being from the organic view of the nature and Chuang-tzu s philosophy and discovered love as an another way that can recover the relationship between men and men, nature and men. Love, the potential attitude that men were endowed from the God is the thing to demolish the wall made in the terms with others, to be the sincere being and to prepare for the sympathy with the world. Life is the self-awakening to be awaken that I was grown up by love and moreover to grow up other existences with the love. I realized after that love becomes life for the first time how much I am really set free. This notion of love was connected with the art outlook of Chuang-tzu that I set up my ideal later. In him philosophy is quest of men s liberty and art is to express the freedom which was dug out and pursued. The union of things and myself means to learn the universal actuality, morality and to acquire the truth of penetrating life and cosmos. Supposing art is the expression of the freedom searched with pains, men is able to enter the stage of authentic liberality through the knowing the fact that everything will be congenial each other. My work of art is the project to harmonize the artificial and the natural and to recover the forgotten but innate sensitivity based on the experienced truth from life. That is to say, it s the work of looking for the unity with me & the nature and the world. It s also my hope that the life composed of love and profound self-reflection is interconnected with my work and besides the concretely-shaped effect, my work sympathizes with people and flows into the everyday life. Like that I would like to get old in the middle of melting together life and art naturally.
