Maurice Bejart에 나타난 현대발레의 안무특성 연구

Abstract

인간이 동물과 다른 차이점중에 하나는 언어를 사용하고 있는 것이다. 언어를 통해서 서로의 의사를 표현하고 문화를 형성하며 인간이 사회적 동물로서의 역할을 갖는 것이다. 이러한 언어의 사용과 문화의 형성은 각각의 시대적 변화를 겪으면서 무한한 발전을 가져왔으며 인간의 역사를 만들어 가는 중요한 역할을 하고있다. 이처럼 새로운 문화를 형성하고 사상을 갖게 되는 것은 인간이 새로운 역사를 만들어가고 있는 과정인 것이다. 새로운 문화와 사상, 이것은 끊임없는 변화를 통해서 이루어지는 것이며 포스트모더니즘 사상도 사회 전반적인 흐름을 타고 대두된 새로운 사상이라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 포스트모더니즘은 모든 예술작품을 통해서 다양한 예술과의 혼용, 변경, 치환 등으로 수용되어지며, 이 같은 복합성은 고정된 스타일의 지배에 벗어나 다양한 의미를 내포하고 있다. 포스트모더니즘의 특징을 살펴보면, 문화 전반에 걸친 문제 이상의 것으로 과거의 연속과 단절이라는 모호성을 가지며 예술의 장르와 경계의 구분이 없어졌다. 또한 기존의 관객의 의식을 해체시키고 대중문화의 흡수와 상호 조화를 통해서 새로운 사상과 기존에 있던 틀을 벗어나려는 움직임을 보여주었다. 무용에서의 포스트모더니즘은 20세기에 들어와 미국을 기점으로 발전해 나갔으며 전통이나 관습. 가치. 신앙. 이념으로부터 해방을 추구하였던 포스트모던댄스 안무가들은 정확히 그 구성의 내용을 단정짓기 어려운 일종의 전위(avant-garde)무용으로서 새롭게 창작된 무용을 만들었다(장경란, 1998). 이와 같이 포스트모더니즘 사상이 전반적인 문화에 영향을 끼치며 새로운 형태를 갖추는 시대흐름과 더불어 발레에서도 새롭고 다양하게 발전된 현대발레의 안무특성을 발견할 수 있다. 특히 혁신적이고 새로운 발레 안무로 이전의 발레 형식에서 벗어나 다양한 스타일을 고수한 모리스 베자르를(Maurice Bejart) 대표적으로 들 수 있다. 그의 안무 성향은 기존의 고전발레의 형식을 깨고 다양한 장르의 혼용과 절충하여 새로운 기법인 창작적이고 실험적인 안무 특성을 나타내었다. 따라서 본 연구는 포스트모더니즘이 나타났던 시대적 배경 속에서 동시대의 현대발레의 거장인 모리스 베자르의 안무성향을 살펴봄으로써 현대발레의 특성을 연구하고자한다. 이와 같은 흐름을 통하여 현대발레의 실험성과 창의성, 그리고 현대적인 작업의 가능성을 모색하는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다. 이를 위해서는 문헌연구를 중심으로 현대발레의 역사적 배경과 흐름을, 그리고 최근의 현대발레의 특징을 살펴보았으며, 포스트모더니즘의 시대적인 변화 과정과 문화 전반에 나타난 특징을 연구하였다. 또한 모리스 베자르의 성장배경과 시대별 활동내역을 연구하고, 대표적인 작품 분석을 통해서 포스트모더니즘의 발전과정과 더불어 함께 나타난 현대발레의 발전과 실험적인 창의성을 연구하였다. 그 결과 모리스 베자르의 안무 성향을 통해서 현대발레의 특징과 새로운 창의성을 발견할 수 있었으며 다음과 같은 결론을 가져왔다. 첫째, 베자르의 안무 주제는 정치적인 긍정과 부정, 사회 전반적인 문제를 사실적으로 다루고 있으며, 철학적 사상과 세계적인 관점을 나타내었다. 둘째, 음악과 조명은 다양한 장르의 음악을 혼합하고 여러 가지 색체를 사용한 조명으로 복합되고 혼용된 요소를 가졌다. 셋째, 움직임에 있어서 베자르는 고도의 클레식 발레의 테크닉을 기본으로 삼고 있으면서 새로운 움직임을 도입 시켰다. 과거의 연속과 단절이라는 모호성과 함께 다양한 장르의 움직임을 절충시켰다. 넷째, 베자르가 공연을 하는 무대는 실제로 사용되는 건물을 이용한다던가 서커스장, 운동장, 스포츠 경기장 등 관객의 참여를 높이기 위해 어떤 곳이든 공연을 하였고 작품내용 속에 서커스를 직접 출연시키거나, 각국의 춤과 노래를 연출하고 대사를 하는 등, 연극적인 요소를 혼합함으로써 대중적인 예술을 추구하였다. 이와 같이 베자르는 포스트모더니즘의 역사적인 흐름의 발전 과정과 같이 고전 발레의 틀을 과감히 버리고 모든 장르를 통합시키며 개척하고 창조함으로서 창의적이고, 실험적인 현대발레를 발전시켰다. ; One of differences between man and animals are human beings use language. They express their opinion, form culture and play their role as political animal through language. This use of language and the formation of culture has developed through time changes, and it has been playing an important role in making history. As such, to form culture and having ideology is the process of human being s making new history. New culture and thoughts are made through constant change, and it is post-modernism that appeared in the flow of overall society. Post-modernism is being mixed, translated and transferred to various forms of art through literature or art work, and this complexity involves various kinds of meaning. Looking at the features of post-modernism, it is more than an issue over general culture, and it has ambiguity called continuance and discontinuance of the past. There is no barrier between art genres. Also, there appeared movement of disassembling the existing audiences ideas and escaping the existing frame. In modern ballet also, we can find the dispositions of post-modernism. Especially, Maurice Bejart is a representative person who sticked to various styles with new ballet choreography escaping precedent ballet forms. Accordingly, this study is aimed at finding post-modern inclinations through Maurice Bejart s choreography, one of representative people of modern ballet and groping for the possibility of developing new ballet creation. For this purpose, I examined the historical background and the flow of modern ballet, and studies the features of modern ballet of recent times as well as the time change and characteristics of post-modernism. Also, I looked at the raising background and activities of Maurice Bejart, and grasped the character of post-modernism through analysis of his representative works. As a result, I came to a conclusion as follows. First, the theme of Maurice Bejart s choreography covers positive and negative politics, overall social issues, philosophical ideology and world point of views. Second, mixing various genres of music and lighting, his choreography has complex and mixed elements with variety of color of lighting. Third, Maurice Bejart took high level classical ballet technique as basic, and he introduced new movement. With the ambiguity called continuance and discontinuance of the past, he applied movement of various genres. Fourth, Bejart s performing stage was real buildings, circus places and sports complexes where audiences participation increased, and he pursued popular art by applying circus to his work including other theatrical elements. As written above, Bejart s choreography dispositions are post-modernistic, escaping the frame of classical ballet, and in that sense, he is a post-modern choreographer who creates a new genre by integrating all genres.
